Merm was the childhood cat of author/illustrator, Chelsea Pohl. Mermshry Rhymes is the second book in a series of children's books written in honor of Merm. Each page offers the original Nursery Rhyme, the "Mermshry Rhyme," and a brief history of the origins of the Nursery Rhyme. From the author: "Mermshry Rhymes arose from an evening of silly banter between my mom and me. During my childhood, much of my energy was spent adoring, smothering, and pestering Merm. Silly banter continues to be a common occurance when I am around my mom, sister, daughters, and our current pets. I have noticed that other pet lovers have a similar expression of love for their pets. I loved Merm dearly, and in his memory, I have become inspired to create a series of children's books.
