I can’t remember when I first read this omnibus, but I liked it a lot and I still do. It’s the kind of book that you can re-read when you feel like it, especially when it’s dark and you can’t sleep. The stories are unlike any other horror stories: they are intelligent, dark, and witty. You are most likely going to think of them long after you have read them, one way or the other.
Keep your eyes open for ‘The Yattering and Jack,’ which is funny, yet creepy; ‘In the Hills, In the Cities,’ stranger than strange and set in Yugoslavia; ‘Human Remains,’ a vampiric version of the ghastly doppelganger; ‘New Murders in the Rue Morgue,’ an interesting take on the original Allan Edgar Poe story; and ‘The Midnight Meat Train,’ an absolute gore fest. Oh yes, and don’t forget ‘Rawhead Rex,’ another gory one, what fun!
