This volume contains papers from a session of the 2006 uispp
congress in Lisbon. The contributors ask what we can learn from
prehistoric art about cultural change, and what art can convey the
ideological and cognitive sphere of prehistoric societies. Essays
cover a variety of art forms (rock art, jewellery, lithics,
ceramics etc) in mostly European contexts, although including
material on the Near East, Egypt and Africa.
