This book is made up of 20 previous published essays, edited by
George J. Stigler. The volume takes as its point of departure the
identification of the economic forces that determine a state's
political institutions and the articulation of a theory of
regulatory policy that accounts for those forces. Eight empirical
studies of industry regulation follow, and the volume concludes
with a consideration of several corrective policies.
