cerned. TheworkshopwasheldMarch24-26,1999inRome,Italy.
Theworkshopconcentratedonallaspectsoffastsecretkeyciphers,inc-
dingthedesignandcryptanalysisofblockandstreamciphers,aswellashash
functions. Therewere51submissions,allofthemsubmittedelectronically.
Ones-
missionwaslaterwithdrawnbytheauthors,and22paperswereselectedfor
presentation.
Allsubmissionswerecarefullyreviewedbyatleast4committee members.
Attheworkshop,preliminaryversionsofall22papersweredistri-
tedtoallattendees. Aftertheworkshoptherewasa
nalreviewingprocesswith additionalcommentstotheauthors.
Ithasbeenachallengeformetochairthecommitteeofthisworkshop,andit
isapleasuretothankallthemembersoftheprogrammecommitteefortheirhard
work. Thecommitteethisyearconsistedof,inalphabeticorder,RossAnd-
