Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.

Hailed by The New York Times Book Review as "...nothing less than a major contribution to the scientific culture of this world," this major survey features the work of 18 outstanding mathematicians. Primary subjects include analytic geometry, algebra, ordinary and partial differential equations, the calculus of variations, functions of a complex variable, prime numbers, and theories of probability and functions. Other topics include linear and non-Euclidean geometry, topology, functional analysis, more. 1963 ed.
The physical properties of water and steam have been the subject of
lhorough investigation for a long time. It can, on the one hand, be
due to the important role of this substance in the processes that
take place in nature and, on the .other hand, due to its wide
industrial use. Steam is the most important working substance used
in conventional and nuc lear power plants, in chemical engineering
and other fields of industry. The variety of practical use of water
and steam generates a need for knowing their thermodynamic,
transport, electrical, and other properties over a .very wide range
of temperatures and pressures. International Conferences on the
Properties of Steam, which have taken place since 1929, have the
aim to promote wide exchange of the results of theoretical and
experimental studies into the properties of ordinary and heavy
water in a11 phase states. In the course of last decade f.he
investigation oC physical and chemical properties of concentrated
and dilute aqueous solutions that are of interest in the first
place from the point of view of power play an important part in
these studies."
Plurisubharmonic functions playa major role in the theory of
functions of several complex variables. The extensiveness of
plurisubharmonic functions, the simplicity of their definition
together with the richness of their properties and. most
importantly, their close connection with holomorphic functions have
assured plurisubharmonic functions a lasting place in
multidimensional complex analysis. (Pluri)subharmonic functions
first made their appearance in the works of Hartogs at the
beginning of the century. They figure in an essential way, for
example, in the proof of the famous theorem of Hartogs (1906) on
joint holomorphicity. Defined at first on the complex plane IC, the
class of subharmonic functions became thereafter one of the most
fundamental tools in the investigation of analytic functions of one
or several variables. The theory of subharmonic functions was
developed and generalized in various directions: subharmonic
functions in Euclidean space IRn, plurisubharmonic functions in
complex space en and others. Subharmonic functions and the
foundations ofthe associated classical poten tial theory are
sufficiently well exposed in the literature, and so we introduce
here only a few fundamental results which we require. More detailed
expositions can be found in the monographs of Privalov (1937),
Brelot (1961), and Landkof (1966). See also Brelot (1972), where a
history of the development of the theory of subharmonic functions
is given."
Learn how to build cloud-native microservices with Helidon - an
open-source Java framework from Oracle. This book will show you how
to take full advantage of the cloud by optimizing applications with
fast start times, low memory consumption, and a small disk
footprint. The open-source Helidon framework provides all
that, and more. It’s based on Java 17, giving you full access to
new code features. This book reveals how Helidon also supports
modern enterprise Java standards such as MicroProfile. Plus, you'll
see how Helidon lets you use GraalVM to build lightning-fast native
executables, and its unique reactive layer allows you to develop
efficient low-level APIs. Each chapter in the book teaches a new
Helidon concept through practical examples based on real-life
use-cases. You’ll learn how to add observability and security to
your microservices, how to work with databases, and call other
services. You'll also look at all MicroProfile 5.0 platform
specifications as well as some stand-alone specs such as Messaging
and Long Running Actions. Best of all, everything covered in this
book makes it a great study guide for the upcoming Oracle Helidon
certification - the perfect way to prove your new skills to a
prospective employer! What You'll Learn Package microservices using

architects who want to start developing cloud-native applications;
developers who already use different Java framework and want to
learn about Helidon; those interested in developing portable
applications using MicroProfile and Jakarta EE
