Wildly arrogant, stunningly bombastic, and undeniably fascinating.
This 1901 work-the masterpiece of an eclectic genius whose life
encompassed medical science, mystical transcendence, and
prospecting for gold-posits a higher form of sentience that only a
few humans have ever achieved, among them Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed,
Dante, William Blake, and the author himself, of course. As Bucke
shares his metaphysical experience of the "cosmic consciousness"
and offers evidence for the few instances in history of its
occurrence ("it may as well be frankly stated at once that the view
of the present editor is that Francis Bacon wrote the 'Shakespeare'
plays and poems"), the reader may well be moved to throw this
bizarre and highly intriguing book furiously across the room... if
the reader can put it down at all, that is. Canadian mystic and
doctor RICHARD MAURICE BUCKE (1837-1902) was a pioneer in the
medical treatment of mental illness; his famous friendship with
Walt Whitman was the subject of the 1992 movie Beautiful Dreamers.
He also wrote Man's Moral Nature (1879) and an 1883 authorized
biography of Whitman.
Population growth and global health disparities for many
reproductive and perinatal outcomes are but a few of the pressing
issues facing public health today. Despite growing interest in the
field, formal training in reproductive and perinatal epidemiology
remains limited, with few available textbooks aimed at providing an
overview of the field. In response to this need, faculty from the
Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health &
Human Development (NICHD) and CIHR's Institute of Human
Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH) developed an
intensive, competitive, Summer Institute in Reproductive and
Perinatal Epidemiology. The curriculum of this Summer Institute has
been developed into a textbook to provide students and researchers
with a working knowledge of the substantive and methodologic issues
underlying reproductive and perinatal epidemiology.
Reproductive and Perinatal Epidemiology offers a core curriculum
that addresses the epidemiology of major reproductive and perinatal
outcomes. From human fecundity to birth and neonatal outcomes, the
subject is approached from as international a perspective as
possible, and the unique methodologic issues underlying each
outcome are discussed. Developed by leading researchers in
collaboration with their students in response to their needs and
concerns, this is the definitive textbook on the subject.
Netflix's meteoric rise as an online content provider has been well
documented and much debated in the popular press and in academic
circles as an industry disrupter, while also blamed for ending TV's
"Golden Age." For academic researchers, Netflix exists at the nexus
of multiple fields: internet research, information studies, media
studies, and television and has an impact on the creation of
culture and how individuals relate to the media they consume.
Netflix at the Nexus examines Netflix's broad impact on technology
and television from multiple perspectives, including the interface,
the content, and user experiences. Chapters by leading
international scholars in television and internet studies provide a
transnational perspective on Netflix's changing role in the media
landscape. As a whole, this collection provides a comprehensive
consideration of the impact of streaming television.
Narcissistic abuse. Two horrible words with huge consequences to
physical and mental wellbeing. This book gives practical steps that
can be taken to avoid getting into an abusive relationship in the
first place, how to get out of an abusive relationship and recover
from abuse. The Practical Guide to Understanding, Leaving and
Recovering from Narcissistic Abuse is a guide to spotting the
warning signs with suggestions about how to leave safely and
recover from abuse from people who have gone through the traumatic
experience personally and understand what you might be going
through. This book gives important insights into why it is so easy
to get drawn into a romantic relationship with a narcissist and why
it is so difficult to leave the relationship, and even harder to
recover from it. Discover for yourself the sixteen stages of an
abusive relationship, the two pre-leaving stages and the eight
recovery phases.
In never-before-released details, the author reveals the early
struggle to bring computer technology to Behind-The-Iron-Curtain
Communist Poland, Post-Franco Spain, Socialist Venezuela, and Post
World War II Brazil. The intersection of political ideology, human
nature and advanced technology creates a drama that is humorous,
appalling, dangerous and even lethal...
Guitar in Theory and Practice is designed to give guitar players a
method to become better musicians by taking the most important
ideas of music and presenting them in a simplistic way for guitar
players. Guitar in Theory and Practice is a systematic guide to
learning all of the scales, chords and arpeggios needed for
improvisation. This book includes the only proven method to
learning how to play and memorize seventh arpeggios with fingerings
and examples. It is designed to help students learn, memorize, and
play scales, chords and arpeggios in a new way so that they can
play and create the music that they always wanted to. This book
also gives examples of the difficult techniques that need to be
practiced on the guitar in order to become a proficient soloist.
Guitar in Theory and Practice teaches students how to create their
own music, and how to use these various scales, chords and
arpeggios in their soloing and songwriting. I also have included
blank fingerboard maps, blank chord charts, blank notation sheets,
blank tabulature sheets, and blank sheets with both tab and
notation for you, as I have always had trouble finding them. This
book was created to show the relationships of all things, in order
to help us develop our personalities and become better artists and
better human beings. It also provides insights to gain a greater
understanding of music and life (as music and art are a reflection
of life). Guitar in Theory and Practice is the first book
containing a poster that relates astrological signs, pitches,
colors, planets, gods, elements of life, masculine and feminine
dualities, time, intervals, numbers, modes and chakras.
