Since the success of products significantly depends on the quality
of product performance, inadequate management of the product design
process can lead to improper performance of products that can
result in significant long-term business losses. Design for
Profitability: Guidelines to Cost Effectively Manage the
Development Process of Complex Products presents a design guideline
for complex product design and development that enables you to
cost-effectively improve the technical performance of your products
and consequently improve your competitiveness in the marketplace as
well as improve profitability. The book helps you improve the
competitiveness of your organization in the market and eventually
improve profitability. It presents a mobile robots design guideline
based on an empirical study of the mobile robots design process.
This is an unprecedented guideline based on the empirical
investigation of the internal aspects of the design process of
complex products for cost-effectively enhancing the competitiveness
in the market. The book also presents a hybrid lean-agile design
paradigm for mobile robots. In addition, it points out key
approaches and risks to manage the product development process
efficiently. In designing complex products and integrated systems,
industrial designers face a dilemma of cost-effectively striking a
balance between product development time and product performance
attributes. This book shows how and when value is added in product
design and development through identifying statistically the most
and least correlated design activities and strategies to product
performance attributes. Introducing a new paradigm in the field of
engineering design, the book gives you key approaches to
efficiently manage the product development process.
With the current emphasis on sustainable construction there is now
a move towards using non-hazardous waste materials and by-products,
as binders in making self-compacting concrete. Alternative
Cementitious Materials for Self-Compacting Concrete provides a
detailed review on the various properties of self-compacting
concrete (SCC) and how they are affected by the use, of by-products
and waste materials in concrete production. The book provides a
fair comparison on the application and use of various types of
materials in SCC. It also provides the latest data and detailed
information on modeling and soft computing techniques for
estimation of the various properties of SCC as well as detailed
investigations on microstructural characterization. The book will
be a valuable reference resource for materials scientists, and
civil and structural engineers working in construction materials
and self-compacting concrete, as well as for those working in the
cement production and non-hazard waste industries.
The book identifies the performance challenges concerning Wireless
Sensor Networks (WSN) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and
analyzes their impact on the performance of routing protocols. It
presents a thorough literature survey to identify the issues
affecting routing protocol performance, as well as a mathematical
model for calculating the end-to-end delays of the routing protocol
ACQUIRE; a comparison of two routing protocols (ACQUIRE and
DIRECTED DIFFUSION) is also provided for evaluation purposes. On
the basis of the results and literature review, recommendations are
made for better selection of protocols regarding the nature of the
respective application and related challenges. In addition, this
book covers a proposed simulator that integrates both RFID and WSN
technologies. Therefore, the manuscript is divided in two major
parts: an integrated architecture of smart nodes, and a
power-optimized protocol for query and information interchange.

and adapt to such events. In addition, the book explores the
potential use of advanced geospatial techniques in improving
current understanding of these extreme events. The book utilizes a
multidisciplinary approach with various state-of-the-art methods,
approaches, and analytical techniques in environmental,
meteorological, and hydrological sciences, providing case studies
from the Middle East and North Africa region. It will be a valuable
source of information for climatologists, meteorologists,
hydrologists, agronomists, geographers, and water resource
scientists.
There has been much recent excitement amongst neuroscientists and
ethicists about the possibility of using drugs, as well as other
technologies, to enhance cognition in healthy individuals. This
excitement has arisen from recent advances in neuroscientific
technologies such as drugs that increase alertness and wakefulness
in healthy individuals or technologies that can stimulate activity
in different parts of the brain - either via the scalp or via
electrodes - raising the possibility of producing cognitive and
affective improvements in otherwise healthy individuals. Despite
this growing interest, there are conflicting views on the ethics of
cognitive enhancement. Some argue that enhancement is not only an
ethical pursuit but one that we have a moral obligation to pursue.
Others are more skeptical about the ethical implications and long
term effects of cognitive enhancement. Some neuroscientists argue
that use of stimulants as putative enhancers will lead to misuse,
abuse and addiction in some users, and might have undesirable
long-term consequences. This book critically explores and analyses
the scientific and ethical debates surrounding cognitive enhancers.
Including contributions from neuroscientists,
neuropsychopharmacologists, ethicists, philosophers, public health
professionals, and policy researchers, the book offers a
multidisciplinary, critical consideration of the ethics of the use
of cognitive enhancers.

This book focuses on identifying the performance challenges
involved in computer architectures, optimal configuration settings
and analysing their impact on the performance of multi-core
architectures. Proposing a power and throughput-aware
fuzzy-logic-based reconfiguration for Multi-Processor Systems on
Chip (MPSoCs) in both simulation and real-time environments, it is
divided into two major parts. The first part deals with the
simulation-based power and throughput-aware fuzzy logic
reconfiguration for multi-core architectures, presenting the
results of a detailed analysis on the factors impacting the power
consumption and performance of MPSoCs. In turn, the second part
highlights the real-time implementation of fuzzy-logic-based
power-efficient reconfigurable multi-core architectures for Intel
and Leone3 processors.

The aim of this study is to design and evaluate the effectiveness
of aviation English language syllabus for student pilots. The most
important results of the study which are drawn from the data
analysis, indicates that there is a significance effect of the
Aviation English Language syllabus upon the achievement assessment
of the students as well as the content of the syllabus meet both
the students personal needs and academic necessity for aviation
field of the study. However, the main shortcoming of the study is
due to the fact that the content of syllabus does not contain or
cover all topics which are required for aviation studies, which
resulted from insufficient time allocated for teaching period which
is only (12) weeks with (2) hours a week(one academic semester).
Therefore, in order to overcome the shortcoming of the study,
further studies are needed.
The present work is an attempt to give a comprehensive overview of
turquoise and its role in Ancient Egypt. Turquoise was mined mainly
in Sinai, at Maghara and at Serabit el Khadim, where the stone
occurs in the sandstone rock. Ancient Egyptian mineralogical
studies have neglected turquoise, focussing instead on the study of
other minerals and metals such as gold, silver, and copper.

The increasing of healthcare services complexity over the past
decades, and the increasing of the healthcare coverage has led to a
corresponding rise in the number of reported adverse events,
unintended injuries and medical errors that might be more serious
than the disease itself. Concurrently, developing of the quality
management concepts ensured the applications of good documentation
and reporting systems, which helped in identifying the size of the
problem, such as in the famous report of the US Institute of
Medicine "To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System." This
huge size of reported medical errors recognized by WHO as one of
the key issues facing healthcare services. Consequently, led to
establishment of World Alliance for Patient Safety at the start of
the 21st century. The Alliance considered the importance of
improving the safety of surgery as the second global patient safety
challenge in 2008. Patient safety systems as a public health issue
are challenging in all levels; in development of evidence based
standards, implementation and assessment.
