Although less well know than some other Alpine regions, Austria's Hohe Tauern National Park boasts spectacular mountain scenery, snow-clad peaks and a splendid network of attractive and welcoming mountain huts. It is also home to Austria's highest peak, the 3798m Gross Glockner. This guide presents four short hut-to-hut treks in the Hohe Tauern region in the heart of the Austrian Tirol: the 7-day Reichen Group Rucksack Route, the 7-day Venediger Group Rucksack Route, the 8-day Venediger Glacier Tour and the 9-day Glockner Rucksack Route. Two other routes, linking stages of the main treks to complete a traverse of the Hohe Tauern National Park and an ascent of the Gross Glockner, are summarised in brief. Also included are multiple excursions to climb neighbouring peaks – including the Gross Glockner and 3660m Gross Venediger – and a hut directory listing the huts in the region and summarising link routes between them. The routes are feasible from mid-June to late September. Whereas the three rucksack routes require only good fitness and mountain walking experience, the glacier tour involves glacier crossings and the optional ascents frequently call for mountaineering skills (grades F and PD). In addition to clear route description and mapping, each trek stage includes notes on the highlights and challenges of the day. There is also a wealth of information to help you plan and prepare for your trip.
Guide to three short hut-to-hut treks in the Zillertal region of the Austrian Tyrol: the 9-day Zillertal Rucksack Route/Berliner Hohenweg, the 7-day Zillertal South Tyrol Tour and the 5-day Olperer Rundweg. With optional excursions to climb neighbouring peaks, some of which call for mountaineering skills and glacier crossings.
An inspirational larger format guidebook to 20 summer treks in the Alps across Italy, Austria, Switzerland, France and Slovenia, including the classics such as the Tour of Mont Blanc and lesser-known routes like the Traverse of the Slovenian Alps. Perfect for planning, the treks included are: Tour of Mont Blanc, Tour of the Matterhorn, Tour of Monte Rosa, Walker's Haute Route, Tour of the Jungfrau Region, Tour of the Vanoise and Dolomites AV 1 & 2; (longer trans-Alpine routes) GR5 (Lake Geneva to Nice), Eastern Alps E5, Italian Alps GTA and the Traverse of the Slovenian Alps; and (for the Alpine adventurer) Alpine Pass Route, Tour of the Oisans, Tour of the Queyras, Tour of Mont Ruan, Stubai High Route, Zillertal High Route, Gran Paradiso AV2 and the Ratikon Hoehenweg. Outline schedules for each trek allow you compare the routes and become inspired to take up the challenge. Basic day-by-day route descriptions for each route are illustrated with maps and profiles, helping you choose the best routes to walk.
This is a compilation of articles written by Pierre Grimes, Ph.D. and the members of the Opening Mind Academy and The Noetic Society, Inc. The articles were not submissions, but requests and assignments by me. I get ideas for a story or a publisher sends a book to review, and then I look for the right person to write it. It might appear that New Perspectives was promoting this group and especially Dr. Grimes' work, but actually the articles and reviews just fit the moment or the "news of the day." I will say, though, that their interest in Dr. Grimes' work led many of the writers to try to fit something about him in no matter what the article or review might be about. Why so many articles from one group when I am an independent publication, not promoting any particular philosophy? Allan Hartley, Editor
