The subject of this monograph is clause connection in texts (with the emphasis on adverbial structures). It transpires that specific features in the structure of clauses can be related partly to the character of the text as 'language in action'. Syntactic subordination is explained in terms of a model geared to prototype theory. A text-pragmatic perspective is taken on the role of clause organization in texts, more specifically the role they play in the information and illocution structure of texts. The examples used are taken from newspaper/magazine texts, which in itself emphasizes an important result of this study: essential aspects of clause connection are only fully explainable by going beyond syntax alone and extending the discussion to the pragmatic structure of texts.

Just as every society has its social stratification, so linguistics has its more elevated disciplines and its less reputable areas. Many of the really exciting issues are banished into the remoter domains of the sub-disciplines or get ignored altogether. This applies above all to questions of 'right' and 'wrong', 'pleasing' and 'ugly', 'good' and 'bad'. It is in this sense that issues pertaining to norms, morals and didactics can be said to be the ugly ducklings of linguistics. The trouble with these areas is that they invite opprobrium for being 'ideological'. It is impossible to talk about them without taking up a position. It is here that we find intentions and purposes being formulated that accord ill with the canonical features of 'pure' linguistics. The book makes no attempt to stage any spurious reconciliations, but it does pinpoint sensitive areas in this connection and sees its main function as that of provoking and encouraging discussion.

Der Sammelband dokumentiert Erkenntnisse der Tagungssektion "Sprachreflexion - Handlungsfelder und Erwerbskontexte" des 22. Symposium Deutschdidaktik in Hamburg und hat das Ziel, gegenwartige Perspektiven des Forschungsdiskurses darzustellen. Mit Blick auf aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse nehmen die einzelnen Beitrage den "Gegenstand" (was ist schulische Sprachreflexion?), die "Lernenden" (was sollen Schulerinnen und Schuler im Sprachunterricht "wissen" und "koennen"?) und den "Unterricht" (wie kann schulische Sprachreflexion gestaltet werden?) in den Blick. Hierbei ist der Sammelband nach vier inhaltlichen Themenfeldern gegliedert: "Grundlagen der Sprachreflexion", "Sprachreflexion und Mehrsprachigkeit/Heterogenitat", "Sprachreflexion und Sprachvarietaten" und "Sprachreflexion und Lesen".

DeutschlehrerInnen sind mit einer Fulle an Normen konfrontiert: Standards, Lehrplane, Forderungen von Politik, Eltern und OEffentlichkeit. Der Band analysiert, wie eigene oder externe Normvorstellungen ihr Wissen, ihre UEberzeugungen und ihr Handeln beeinflussen. Thema der Beitrage, die auf empirischen Arbeiten aus den Bereichen der Lese-, Sprach- und Literaturdidaktik basieren, sind Normen und Normenkonflikte als Anteil von verschiedenen Facetten des professionellen Wissens. Sie behandeln beispielsweise die Diagnosefahigkeit im Bereich des Lesens, Normvorstellungen uber das Schreiben oder Fachwissen im Bereich der Orthographie. Der Band vertieft so die Diskussion uber fachlich gepragte professionelle Kompetenz im Sinne einer Fachdidaktik als "eingreifende Kulturwissenschaft".
