This volume is dedicated to the memory of Sergey Naboko (1950-2020). In addition to original research contributions covering the vast areas of interest of Sergey Naboko, it includes personal reminiscences and comments on the works and legacy of Sergey Naboko’s scientific achievements. Areas from complex analysis to operator theory, especially, spectral theory, are covered, and the papers will inspire current and future researchers in these areas.

Topics of this volume are close to scientific interests of Professor Maz'ya and use, directly or indirectly, the fundamental influential Maz'ya's works penetrating, in a sense, the theory of PDEs.

In particular, recent advantages in the study of semilinear elliptic equations, stationary Navier-Stokes equations, the Stokes system in convex polyhedra, periodic scattering problems, problems with perturbed boundary at a conic point, singular perturbations arising in elliptic shells and other important problems in mathematical physics are presented.

The fundamental contributions of Professor Maz'ya to the theory of function spaces and especially Sobolev spaces are well known and often play a key role in the study of different aspects of the theory, which is demonstrated, in particular, by presented new results and reviews from world-recognized specialists. Sobolev type spaces, extensions, capacities, Sobolev inequalities, pseudo-Poincare inequalities, optimal Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya inequalities, Maz'ya's isocapacitary inequalities in a measure-metric space setting and many other actual topics are discussed.

The analysis of eigenvalues of Laplace and Schroedinger operators is an important and classical topic in mathematical physics with many applications. This book presents a thorough introduction to the area, suitable for masters and graduate students, and includes an ample amount of background material on the spectral theory of linear operators in Hilbert spaces and on Sobolev space theory. Of particular interest is a family of inequalities by Lieb and Thirring on eigenvalues of Schroedinger operators, which they used in their proof of stability of matter. The final part of this book is devoted to the active research on sharp constants in these inequalities and contains state-of-the-art results, serving as a reference for experts and as a starting point for further research.

Boris Pavlov (1936-2016), to whom this volume is dedicated, was a prominent specialist in analysis, operator theory, and mathematical physics. As one of the most influential members of the St. Petersburg Mathematical School, he was one of the founders of the Leningrad School of Non-self-adjoint Operators. This volume collects research papers originating from two conferences that were organized in memory of Boris Pavlov: "Spectral Theory and Applications", held in Stockholm, Sweden, in March 2016, and "Operator Theory, Analysis and Mathematical Physics - OTAMP2016" held at the Euler Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia, in August 2016. The volume also includes water-color paintings by Boris Pavlov, some personal photographs, as well as tributes from friends and colleagues.
