"The Command of Grace" sets forth a bold new critical initiative in theological apologetics, one that advances a fundamental reassessment of theological self-understanding and method today, especially in its attentiveness to the present reality of God in revelation. Many recently predominating trends have tended to treat theological truth as something cognitively self-guaranteeing ('tauto-theological') within doctrinal or other theoretical domains. Against this, and drawing on the philosophical heritage as well importantly on Jewish thought, the book seeks to revive for fundamental theological questioning other basic modes of human attentiveness which, under an array of 'cognitively mono-visional' influences, have become largely lost to theology since 1800, even though they continue to thrive in the life of faith in the church itself. These are: a??causala?? attentiveness encountered through the faculties of bodily sensibility; and 'appetitive' or 'motive' attentiveness encountered in the faculty of desire. Especially crucial here is the rejuvenation of the primacy of 'motive reasoning' (reasoning with regard to motivations and desires) for theology's apologetical self-understanding, in addition to its normal engagement with 'cognitive reasoning' (reasoning with regard to percepts and concepts). If God in his transcendent 'Godness' meets us in revelation not at the margins of the speculative intellect in the form of a denotatum for cognitive apprehension, but rather at the very center of embodied life in the form of a summons to motivated action, then theology must seek to be attentive to God through all the endowed faculties of embodied-rational life: cognitive, sensible, and motive-appetitive.

This 2004 book reconfigures the basic problem of Christian thinking - 'How can human discourse refer meaningfully to a transcendent God?' - as a twofold demand for integrity: integrity of reason and integrity of transcendence. Centring around a provocative yet penetratingly faithful re-reading of Kant's empirical realism, and drawing on an impelling confluence of contemporary thinkers (including MacKinnon, Bonhoeffer, Marion, Putnam, Nagel) Paul D. Janz argues that theology's 'referent' must be located within present empirical reality. Rigorously reasoned yet refreshingly accessible throughout, this book provides an important, attentively informed alternative to the growing trends toward obscurantism, radicalization and anti-reason in many recent assessments of theological cognition, while remaining equally alert to the hazards of traditional metaphysics. In the book's culmination, epistemology and Christology converge around problems of noetic authority and orthodoxy with a kind of innovation, depth and straightforwardness that readers of theology at all levels of philosophical acquaintance will find illuminating.
"He who is faithfully analysing ... epi lepsy is doing far more than studying epilepsy" Hughlings Jackson Modifying this well-known statement by Jackson, one could say today: "He who is faithfully analysing anti-epileptic drugs is doing far more than studying anti-epileptic drugs." For these drugs not only serve to prevent epileptic fits and thus advance the treatment of epilepsy, they are also effective in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and trigeminal neuralgia. Furthermore, clinical pharmacologists consider anti-epi leptic drugs as model drugs in pharmacokinetics and pharmocodynamics, since reliable methods are available for their determination and their effects and side effects can be defined. The methods of estimating of drugs in body fluids provide a tool that enables us to throw light on many obscure relationships in pharmaceutical treatment. Now that we can study the pharmacokinetics and interaction of drugs in man, many hypotheses based on clinical experience alone may well be eliminated or corroborated. The grow ing body of knowledge will make us more careful about the administration of drugs in combination. Now that we can study how biological parameters interfere with drug action, we may perhaps proceed to the scientific analysis of many clinical observations that suggest the importance of such factors as age, sex, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, fever, diet, stress, sport, climate, and altitude."
Epileptic disorders need treatment for many years or even for life, and this makes a thorough understanding of the pharmacokinetics and possible hazards and side effects of the drugs used in treatment mandatory. During recent decades our knowledge in this field has considerably increased, not least as a result of the development of specific and sensitive methods for the determination of anti epileptic agents in biological material. The clinical pharmacology of this group of drugs has been studied extensively and can today be regarded as well established. This does not necessarily mean that drug treatment of epilepsy is without problems. For example, it has recently been shown that one of the newer anti epileptic drugs, greeted with great enthusiasm by clinicians, may in rare instances induce serious damage to the liver and the pancreas, and seems even to have a certain teratogenic potential. Clinical problems should be understood as a challenge to the experimental pharmacologist, who should try to find explanations for the clinical hazards, and, if possible, show new ways in which better drugs might be developed. In recent years interest has focused on the importance of the inhibitory transmitter 'l'-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the pathophysiology of epilepsy, and there have been a series of attempts to find useful antiepileptic drugs among substances interfering with GABA metabolism in the CNS."

Building on two decades of original research into workplace issues
and friendship patterns, sociologist and consultant Dr. Jan Yager
offers insights into how to succeed by mastering workplace
relationships. Based on an international survey of 400 men and
women and over 100 interviews, Yager discovered a relationship
unique to the workplace and business. She calls it a workship--more
connected than an acquaintance but not as intimate as a friendship.
However, workships, especially positive ones, help work to be more
productive and more fun and are the "safest" and least complicated
connections at work and in business.
In Put More Time on Your Side, sociologist, business, and relationship expert Dr. Jan Yager helps you to become more efficient a work world that is more demanding and 24/7 than ever before. In this concise and provocative book, you will learn The #1 factor you can control to revolutionize your time management. How to deal with distractions and fragmentation. Coping with time wasters like over-scheduling, inadequate pacing, poor planning, procrastination, or perfectionism. How to master office relationships and politics to save time. Cultural considerations and lots more
The purity of love from a pet to its owner comes from a deep, intuitive bond that creates a high quality relationship. Pets warm our hearts with their most wonderful ability to love, and they become much-adored family members. As owners, we hope to be able to share in all the loving over the full lifetime of the pet. However, sudden news of a serious health issue shatters the pet owner's expectancy of lifelong love and cherished attachment. It is devastating to learn our pet is ill, and the hours and days that follow are filled with overwhelming feelings of helplessness, vulnerability and grief. Owners desperately want to know how they can help their pet and may experience pressure and confusion about what they can do. I have created this workbook to offer a personal guide that will help you deal with the potential loss of your pet. Step by step, I will lead you through our journey and thereby yours. By breaking down the situation the pet owner is able to focus on the tasks that need to be accomplished, and this way the reader may gain the most from what was shared in "Last Summer with Oscar." It is my suggestion that one read Oscar's story first, then wait a day or two, and then re-read each subchapter while coordinating time spent completing the corresponding workbook pages. The workbook follows the same order of the table of contents listed in the book. The reader will find that within the workbook, each subchapter is broken down into the essential mental/physical/emotional tasks. Italicized statements found at the end of each subchapter of the book are now identified as spiritual lessons. Please read and reflect, and then write down your responses. Be gentle with yourself as there are no right or wrong answers. Everyone's journey will be a reflection of one's own uniqueness and individual set of circumstances. It is my sincere wish that this endeavor will bring warmest love to you and all who surround you and your most-beloved pet.

Franz Conrad von Hotzendorf, as chief of the Austro-Hungarian general staff, was the foremost proponent of preventive war as the means of solving both the foreign and domestic problems of the multinational Habsburg Monarchy in one grand action. The combination of Conrad's insistence on war and Serbia's official, and frequently reckless unofficial, nationalist policies set the stage for the outbreak of a Balkan conflict that would shake Europe to its very foundations and change the world forever.
"The Command of Grace" sets forth a bold new critical initiative in theological apologetics which advocates a fundamental reassessment of theological self-understanding and method today, especially in its attentiveness to the present reality of God in revelation. It is predicated on what, through a sustained and penetrating critique of our philosophical and theological history, the book shows to be a still profoundly pervasive analytical 'spirit of idealism', under whose influences theology has in a wide array of ways come to exercise itself predominantly within a kind of cognitivist mono-vision. Theology has thereby not only become self-guaranteeing within itself ('tauto-theological'), thus forfeiting its rationally rigorous edge, but has also inadvertently violated its indispensable incarnational (embodied) ground. Against this, the book seeks, through a rigorously critical attentiveness to rational integrity, to revive for fundamental theological questioning two basic modes of human awareness, which under the aforementioned influences have become largely lost to theology over the past two centuries, even though they continue to thrive in the life of faith in the church itself. These are: causal attentiveness encountered through the faculties of bodily sensibility; and appetitive or motive attentiveness encountered in the faculty of desire. If God in his very 'Godness' meets us in revelation at the very centre of created life, and reveals himself only here as the hope of the life to come, then theology must again seek to be attentive to God in the full contingency of embodied-rational life in all of its constitutive faculties: sensible, cognitive and appetitive.
