Thematischer Hintergrund dessen sind die in der jungeren Vergangenheit und auf Druck einiger Zeitgenossen erschienen Veroffentlichungen zum Fussballsport im nationalsozialistischen Deutschland. Hierzu werden im Vorfeld auf die Folgen der Gleichschaltung durch das nationalsozialistische Regime fur den deutschen Sport eingegangen und die Konsequenzen der Machtubernahme fur die judischen Sportler in Deutschland erortert. Weiter werden die Entwicklung des deutschen Fussballs bis 1933 sowie die Rolle des Fussballs und seiner Verantwortlichen im Nationalsozialismus thematisiert.
