The population of the world was about 2 billion when I was born in 1921, and it is 6.5 billion this year (2006). With about 120 million now being added each year, the population of the world is expected to reach 7 billion by 2010. The Earth simply cannot provide adequately for such gains We already are living beyond the Earth's ability to provide adequate food and other necessities for the present population. That is the basic message of this book and it will be bad news, especially for our children and grandchildren, if intelligent action is not begun now to face the ecological and other catastrophes that are on the way. If we do not face up to these converging catastrophes a Dark Age will be upon us. This book's uniqueness is not so much in the information it presents, because much of it is widely known and already of concern to many people. Its uniqueness is in presenting it as a package, with a message of urgency, and with the strong suggestion that a Limited World Government-with Education and Religion as crucial aids-is an avenue of solution for these global issues.
Evelyn Ackley Christensen grew up on a farm near Bryant, South Dakota, during the Depression of the 1930s. Her first poems were written while she was in high school. Through years of teaching, getting married, raising three boys (in Cincinnati, OH), and becoming an expert weaver, her observations broadened and insights sharpened. Her early poems reflect a deep feeling for natural things and nature's power. Her loneliness during World War II is revealed in poems written about and to her husband-to-be in England and Germany. Her sensitivity to those around her shows clearly in her poems about family, friends and pets. Her evolving views of God, religion and philosophy are revealed in Chapter 5. Her concerns and perspectives about the world and the human family are shown in many of her poems. Her poems come from her heart and her keen mind. Her poems move one with their sincerity and humility. They present special insights about ordinary things.

David Christensen, PhD, a retired geography professor, has studied how people have both used and misused Earth, and spent endless amounts of money on wars and on a military that, in his opinion, cannot provide security in a world of interdependent nations. Christensen invites you to follow along as he presents his case for Limited World Government as the only way to deal with the following three intertwined global issues: War and Militarization Corporate Globalization and the Need for a Sustainable Balance between the Earth and the Human Family. In addition to identifying three key problems of our time, Christensen includes a brief history of peace plans, the evolution of international cooperation over the last two centuries, and the League of Nations and the United Nations. Dozens of quotes from world leaders and writers are also included, as well as a discussion of a Web of Survival. Healing the World will encourage you to examine the actions of world leaders, as well as your own viewpoints about global issues, and concludes with an inspirational call to
