Elevated levels of dissociative symptoms, e.g., amnesia and depersonalization, have been found to be a predictor of violent behavior in some studies. Traumatic dissociation-dissociation which results from traumatic stress-has been understudied among juvenile offenders and sexually abusive youth, despite the fact that high numbers of incarcerated adolescents have been exposed to multiple types of trauma. This research offers theoretical and clinical insights into the relationships between different types of childhood victimization, dissociation and trauma related disorders, including posttraumatic stress disorders, and subsequent offending behaviors in a large sample of delinquent youth and adolescent sex offenders. Preliminary links are established between dissociation and traumatic stress in this population, and a model is advanced that indicates a significant relationship between dissociation and adolescent sexual offending. Additionally, the author reviews the historical and contemporary conceptualizations of dissociation and offers a discussion of the possible racial and ethnic differences in dissociative symptoms.
Do we have a deal? It's the only question that matters and the only reason for the sales department at any automobile dealership to be open twelve hours a day, seven days a week. Sell something. Sell anything. Just sell. The competition is fierce between manufacturers, between dealerships and between salespeople. They are all trying to make a living on the back of the consumer. To keep the factories running, dealers have to order cars. For dealers to order cars, salespeople have to sell cars. A lot of things run down hill. Sales pressure is one of them. The "ten steps to the sale" is a proven method of selling cars. The story follows each buyer through the ten steps and shows the pressure put on the salespeople by their personal lives and the sales management. Everything that happens in the story is happening every day at dealerships nationwide. It explains why buying a car is an odious experience.
Encourage students to think critically about social work practice with a multidisciplinary, theoretical approach Contemporary Human Behavior Theory: A Critical Perspective for Social Work Practice takes a multidisciplinary, theoretical approach to HBSE and provides a consistent analytical framework for readers to examine both traditional and contemporary theories. Students are encouraged to develop their critical-thinking skills as they explore each theory and analyze the social, ideological, and economic structures of society that impact individual problems. Each chapter includes coverage of the research that supports a particular theory, an analysis of the validity of that research, and a discussion of contemporary issues. Updated with material that is critical to social work practice today, the 4th Edition includes new cases with practice application exercises, and expanded content on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and intersex (LGBTQI+) persons' development and empowerment.
