The 'Glorious Revolution' of 1688-90 played a fundamental role in
re-shaping the political, religious and cultural map of the British
Isles. Yet, as this book demonstrates, many key elements of the
history of the period between the landing of William of Orange and
the establishment of the Union between Scotland and England, remain
shadowy. In particular, the religious and theological underpinnings
of the Revolution in Scotland have received scant attention
compared to discussions of events in England, and Ireland. This
book sets out to show how the religious dimension of the revolution
settlement in Scotland while comprehensively Presbyterian, was not
inevitable, revealing instead the degree of political and religious
pressure that was brought to bear in order to press for a moderate
settlement that took cognizance of the Episcopalian position.
However, the outcome demonstrated the ability of Presbyterians to
respond to the changing political circumstances and seize the
opportunities they offered, enabling them to galvanise their
support within parliament and secure a settlement that went beyond
what William and Erastian-inclined Presbyterians would have
preferred. Traditionally, treatment of the religious outcome in
Scotland has been restricted to a bare narration of the significant
acts of parliament - this book takes a more thorough and critical
approach to explain not only the nature of the final settlement but
how it was achieved, and the legacy it left for both Scotland and
the newly forged British state.
You've read your textbook and your course notes. Now you need to
apply your knowledge to real-life clinical situations. The
problem-solving approach of Core Clinical Cases guides you to think
of the patient as a whole, rather than as a sequence of unconnected
symptoms. With its emphasis on everyday practice strongly linked to
underlying theory, the series integrates your knowledge with the
realities of managing clinical problems, and provides a basis for
developing sound analytical and confident decision-making skills.
The core areas of undergraduate study are covered in a logical
sequence of learning activities; the same questions are asked of
each clinical case, followed by detailed explanatory answers. OSCE
counselling cases, with related questions and answers, also feature
in each section. Key concepts and important information are
highlighted, and the reader-friendly layout reflects exactly the
type of question you will encounter, making these volumes the
perfect revision aid for all types of case-based examination. The
Medicine and Medical Specialties volume, in which all medical
subjects have been brought together in a single volume for this
second edition, focuses on the following topics: diabetes,
endocrinology, rheumatology, renal medicine, cardiology, care of
elderly people, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology,
haematology, oncology emergencies; neurology, infectious diseases,
and dermatology. Volumes in the Core Clinical Cases series remain
absolutely invaluable in the run up to clinical, written, or OSCE
examinations, and ideal course companions for all undergraduate
medical students at various stages in their clinical training.
Miscellanies published by the Scottish History Society bring
together critical editions of important and previously unpublished
manuscripts of relevance to Scottish history. As well as providing
transcriptions, the editors introduce and explain the context of
documents which have been neglected or even unknown to historians,
providing a valuable resource for researchers, students, and all
those interested in exploring Scottish history through the original
sources. Volume XIV of the Miscellany focuses on the early modern
period, presenting editions of six manuscripts from the late
sixteenth to the mid eighteenth centuries. While ranging widely
over the political, religious, social and environmental history of
the period, there is an emphasis on the writings of the clergy, and
the religious culture of the long post-Reformation period. Several
of the entries shed considerable light, for example, on
evangelicalism in the first half of the eighteenth century.
Together, the documents comprise an essential collection for the
study of early modern Scottish History, and help to illuminate the
body of unpublished sources still waiting to be explored.
Set against the background of post-revolution Scottish
ecclesiastical politics, this book addresses the hitherto largely
neglected religious dimension to the debates on Anglo-Scottish
Union. Focusing predominantly on the period between April 1706 and
January 1707, the book examines the attitudes and reactions of
Presbyterians to the treaty and challenges many of the widely held
assumptions about the role of the church and other groups during
the debate. The focal point of the Kirk's response was the
Commission of the General Assembly. Through the extensive use of
church records and other primary sources the work of the commission
in pursuit of church security through its debates, committees and
addresses, is discussed at length. The book also examines the
church and groups like the Cameronians and Hebronites in relation
to the parliamentary debate, the pursuit of alternatives to
incorporation, popular protest, addressing and armed resistance.

travels the world and lives life to the fullest. He shows your
child that living and prospering with diabetes is really about
having the right attitude. In fact, your diabetic life style of
focusing on good health can actually be an advantage. This book is
fun and a joy for children to read themselves -- or have it read to
them by an adult. The author's son was diagnosed with diabetes and
he knows how important it is to let children know that everything
will be ok, and that in fact, things will be fantastic. This
wonderful colorful book includes spectacular artwork, and witty and
entertaining rhyming verses.
