An R Companion to Applied Regression is a broad introduction to the R statistical computing environment in the context of applied regression analysis. John Fox and Sanford Weisberg provide a step-by-step guide to using the free statistical software R, an emphasis on integrating statistical computing in R with the practice of data analysis, coverage of generalized linear models, and substantial web-based support materials. The Third Edition has been reorganized and includes a new chapter on mixed-effects models, new and updated data sets, and a de-emphasis on statistical programming, while retaining a general introduction to basic R programming. The authors have substantially updated both the car and effects packages for R for this edition, introducing additional capabilities and making the software more consistent and easier to use. They also advocate an everyday data-analysis workflow that encourages reproducible research. To this end, they provide coverage of RStudio, an interactive development environment for R that allows readers to organize and document their work in a simple and intuitive fashion, and then easily share their results with others. Also included is coverage of R Markdown, showing how to create documents that mix R commands with explanatory text.
Collection of children's animated features. In 'The Nut Job' (2014) sassy squirrel Surly (voice of Will Arnett) and his mute rat friend Buddy decide to tackle their park's food shortage problem by stealing from a dangerous group of urban animals. But, their plan goes awry as they come face-to-face with urban leader Raccoon (Liam Neeson). After a series of unfortunate collisions, Surly is banished from the park leaving Buddy to fend for himself. Noticing a human's nut cart in the park, Surly sets about re-establishing his position in the colony; little does he know that the nut cart is a cover for a group of thieves who plan to rob the local bank. 'Sammy's Great Escape' (2012) follows ageing turtle Sammy (Alan Shearman) as he is swept away on an adventure to Dubai. When Sammy and his lifelong friend Ray (Khary Payton) are caught by poachers they find themselves destined to become part of an aquarium display. As the duo plan an escape, along with their new acquaintances which include a blob fish, a lobster, an octopus and a group of penguins, their young grandchildren go off on an adventure of their own in an effort to save their grandpas. In 'The Any Bully' (2006) Lucas Nickle (Zach Tyler) is a ten-year-old boy whose family has just moved to a new town, and Lucas isn't enjoying it much. He hasn't made any friends yet, his big sister ignores him and his parents are occupied with their upcoming vacation to Mexico. To make matters worse, the local bully has targeted Lucas and is making his life miserable. After finding a large colony of ants in his yard, Lucas takes out his frustrations by stomping, drowning, and burying the bugs, not realising that the ants see him as a threat to their safety and aren't about to take his attacks lying down. Zoc (Nicolas Cage), the wizard ant, creates a formula that shrinks Lucas to the size of an insect, and the tiny boy is brought before the leader of the Ant Council and the Queen of the Colony (Meryl Streep) to answer for his crimes against the ants. Showing compassion, the Queen sentences Lucas not to death, but to live among them to see how difficult their circumstances can be. In 'The Reef' (2006) Pi (Freddie Prinze Jr), an ordinary fish from Boston who arrives at the exotic reef to live with his Aunt Pearl (Fran Drescher). He is immediately attracted to Cordelia (Evan Rachel Wood), the fish of his dreams. There's just one problem - Troy (Donal Logue), the meanest shark in the ocean, who not only patrols the reef keeping its community in fear of becoming his next meal, but also has his eye on Cordelia and wants her for himself. Pi must join up with his new group of friends and try and outwit Troy and his henchmen, save the reef and win Cordelia.
'Be of good comfort, Master Ridley, and play the man: we shall this day light such a candle by God's grace in England, as, I trust, shall never be put out.' Hugh Latimer's famous words of consolation to Nicholas Ridley as they are both about to be burnt alive for heresy come from John Foxe's magisterial Acts and Monuments, popularly known as the Book of Martyrs. This vast collection of unforgettable accounts of religious persecution exerted as great an influence on early modern England and New England as the Bible and the Book of Common Prayer. It contains many stirring stories of the apprehension, interrogation, imprisonment, and execution of alleged heretics. The narratives not only attest to the fortitude of individuals who suffered for their faith not many years before the birth of Shakespeare, but they also constitute exciting tales filled with graphic details and verbal wit. This modernized selection also includes some of the famous woodcuts that illustrated the original text, as well as providing a comprehensive introduction to Foxe's life and times and the martyrology narrative. ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford's commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.
"I picked up this book soon after making a commitment to Christ. At
first I was shocked by the images of Christians suffering and dying
for their faith. But soon I was drawn into the accounts of how
these ordinary men and women--no different from you or me--could
face every kind of opposition rather than deny their Lord. Reading
their stories marked me and helped me resolve to follow Christ no
matter what the cost."
Sylvia Syms stars in this British crime drama directed by Donovan Winter. When bank manager Martin Hammond (James Kerry) leaves early for work, a pair of masked gunmen break into his home and take his wife Wendy (Syms) and their children hostage. After the men convince Martin to open the bank's vault he returns home to be with his suffering family. The gunmen, however, are dissatisfied with their loot and the violent thugs decide they are not yet done having their fun...
"Its principal themes, sometimes treated independently, include problem-flagging statistics, variable transformations, analytical graphics, and the spirit of Tukey's exploratory data analysis. Regression Diagnostics. . . combines these themes nicely. . . . The volume is . . . an accurate and detailed portrayal, resulting in a valuable contribution. . . . All in all, this volume is highly recommended not only for systems theorists but also for those sociologists and others desiring an accurate portrayal of feedback concepts. The book is careful and comprehensive . . . and generally brings the reader up to date on the feedback literature."
"This excellent, concise, and practical handling of diagnostic methods suffers in no way from its use of social-statistics illustrations. The 80 pages are as good as anything I have seen in promoting, explaining, and illustrating the diagnostic tools for regression."
Linear least-squares regression analysis makes very strong assumptions about the structure of data--and, when these assumptions fail to characterize accurately the data at hand, the results of a regression analysis can be seriously misleading. With Regression Diagnostics, researchers now have an accessible explanation of the techniques needed for exploring problems that comprise a regression analysis, and for determining whether certain assumptions appear reasonable. Beginning in Chapter 2 with a review of least-squares linear regression, the book covers such topics as the problem of collinearity in multiple regression, dealing with outlying and influential data, non-normality of errors, non-constant error variance, and the problems and opportunities presented by discrete data. In addition, sophisticated diagnostics based on maximum-likelihood methods, score tests, and constructed variables are introduced. The book concludes with suggestions on how regression diagnostic techniques can be effectively applied in research, and offers advice on implementing these suggestions through the use of standard statistical computer packages.

Marx, the Body, and Human Nature shows that the body and the broader material world played a far more significant role in Marx's theory than previously recognised. It provides a fresh 'take' on Marx's theory, revealing a much more open, dynamic and unstable conception of the body, the self, and human nature.
Combining a modern, data-analytic perspective with a focus on applications in the social sciences, the Third Edition of Applied Regression Analysis and Generalized Linear Models provides in-depth coverage of regression analysis, generalized linear models, and closely related methods, such as bootstrapping and missing data. Updated throughout, this Third Edition includes new chapters on mixed-effects models for hierarchical and longitudinal data. Although the text is largely accessible to readers with a modest background in statistics and mathematics, author John Fox also presents more advanced material in optional sections and chapters throughout the book.
