The discovery of silver cannot be pinpointed; humans have mined it
far back into antiquity. Our fascination with this malleable metal
and the beautiful works of art that can be shaped from it continues
to this day. This book brings together two expansive collections of
silver objects, the 'Lion' collection and the 'Hamme' collection.
The 'Lion' collection provides a broad overview of beautiful silver
objects made by a great variety of British contemporary
silversmiths. It is divided between holloware, caddy spoons and
napkin rings. Part of the collection revolves around the theme of
lions, because the lion image bears a resemblance to the
collector's family history. The Hamme collection is a spectacular
array of 'hero' pieces and commissions that demonstrate some of the
best of each silversmith's work. With more than 500 images,
Contemporary British Silver Designers shares some of the finest
work crafted by 21st-century silversmiths. Interviews with numerous
modern silversmiths - Jane Short, Kevin Grey, Miriam Hanid, Nan Nan
Liu, Phil Jordan, Ray Walton, Rod Kelly, Tamar de Vries Winter,
Wayne Meeten, Yusuke Yamamoto, Zoe Watts, Fred Rich, Michael Lloyd
and Wally Gilbert - offer insight into the silversmiths' process
and inspirations. Brief biographies are also included on numerous
other silversmiths whose work is featured in this book: Phil
Barnes, James Dougall, Ryan McClean, Stuart Jenkins, Martin Baker,
Martin Keane, Sarah Wilson, Don Porritt, Martyn Pugh, Maureen
Edgar, Alistair McCallum, Colette Bishop, Adi Toch, Malcolm
Appleby, Adrian Hope, Jen Ricketts, Cara Murphy, Graham Stewart, ,
Kathryn Hinton, Brett Payne, Clive Burr, Rauni Higson, Angus
McFadyen, Kyosun Jung, Karina Gill, Stella Campion, Angela Cork,
Abigail Brown, Jessica Jue, Ndidi Ekubia, Elizabeth Auriol Peers
and Katie Watson, among others.
Single Case Research in Schools addresses and examines the variety
of cutting-edge issues in single case research (SCR) in educational
settings. Featuring simple and practical techniques for aggregating
data for evidence-based practices, the book delves into methods of
selecting behaviors of interest and measuring them reliably. The
latter part of Single Case Research in Schools is devoted to a
step-by-step model of using SCR to evaluate practices in schools.
This includes considerations such as measurement, date collection,
length of phases, design consideratoins, calculating effect size
and reliability of measures.
Almost all current wars are primarily intra-state, involving
complex societal conflicts with at least one party a non-state
community. Second Track/ Citizens' Diplomacy is broadly defined as
facilitated dialogue to address conflict issues between unofficial
representatives or equivalent opinion leaders dfrom communities in
conflict. It is an essential complement to official (first track)
diplomacy for responding to the enormous challenge that these
complex conflicts pose to building a sustainable and dynamic peace.
In this volume, prominent contributors explain the development,
theory and current practice of second track diplomacy. They examine
the dynamics of modern complex conflicts, such as those in Sri
Lanka, Israel/Palestine, Cyprus, or the Caucasus. Exploring
innovative problem-solving methodologies, the book provides a
detailed program for guiding 'Partners in Conflict' in the search
for common ground and analyzes core issues that arise in the
practice and evaluation of second track diplomacy. This book will
be valuable to both academics and professionals involved in first
or second track diplomacy, or interested in integrative methods of
dispute resolution or conflict prevention, as well as to those
working in development, peace-building or humanitarian programs at
any phase of the conflict cycle.

State failure, ethnopolitical war, genocide, famine, and refugee
flows are variants of a type of complex political and humanitarian
crisis, exemplified during the 1990s in places like Somalia,
Bosnia, Liberia, and Afghanistan. The international consequences of
such crises are profound, often threatening regional security and
requiring major inputs of humanitarian assistance. They also may
pose long-term and costly challenges of rebuilding shattered
governments and societies. A vital policy question is whether
failures can be diagnosed far enough in advance to facilitate
effective international efforts at prevention or peaceful
transformation. This volume of original essays examines crisis
early warning factors at different levels, in different settings,
and judges their effectiveness according to various models. Top
contributors offer answers along with analyses as they move from
early warning to early response in their policy recommendations.
