*A Guardian Book of the Day* The defeat of socialist firebrand
Jeremy Corbyn as Labour Leader in 2019 confirmed Tony Benn's famous
retort 'the Labour party has never been a socialist party, although
there have always been socialists in it.' For over a hundred years,
the British Labour Party has been a bastion for working class
organisation and struggle. However, has it ever truly been on the
side of the workers? Where do its interests really lie? And can we
rely on it to provide a barrier against right-wing forces? Simon
Hannah's smart and succinct history of the Labour left guides us
through the twists and turns of the party, from the Bevanite
movement and the celebrated government of Clement Attlee, through
the emergence of a New Left in the 1970s and the Blairism of the
1990s, to Corbyn's defeat and his replacement by Keir Starmer. This
new edition is updated throughout, with a new final chapter and
conclusion bringing the story up to date.

This practical nuts-and-bolts how-to guide to carrying out single
case research is keenly focused on practicing this type of research
in educational and community settings.Conceptualizing the
background underlying this research approach, the book walks you
through a step-by-step approach to the components involved in doing
such research in this environment. You will learn a brief history
on the development of these design approaches, with some of the
basic logistical barriers to and solutions for carrying out
research in applied settings. Additionally, you will become versed
in the nuts-and-bolts procedures of carrying out such research with
regard to designing and implementing measurements systems, choosing
appropriate designs, and graphing and analyzing data. You will
further learn the basics of disseminating research via various
professional outlets such as conference presentations and journals
for researchers and practitioners. The tables and graphics included
list step-by-step procedures for carrying out various data
collection and research design strategies, offering concise
summaries of some key features of the main procedural elements of
single case research, and a guideline to crucial features and
concepts. Written for a broad range of educational and other human
services professionals, including teachers in both general and
special education, the book is also a suitable guide if you are a
school psychologist or counselors, or even a social worker,
communication disorders specialist, or recreation, occupational, or
physical therapist. Unique and new to the market, this "how-to"
guide fills a gap for a single case, single subject research design
book focused on doing this type of research in educational and
community settings, with a strong emphasis on practice versus
theory.
Neurodiversity in the workplace can be a gift. Yet only 15% of
adults with an autism spectrum condition (ASC) are in full-time
employment. This book examines how the working environment can
embrace autistic people in a positive way. The author highlights
common challenges in the workplace for people with ASC, such as
discrimination and lack of communication or the right kind of
support from managers and colleagues, and provides strategies for
changing them. Setting out practical, reasonable adjustments such
as a quiet room or avoiding disruption to work schedules, this book
demonstrates how day to day changes in the workplace can make it
more inclusive and productive for all employees. Autism in the
Workplace is intended for any person with an interest in changing
working culture to ensure equality for autistic people. It is an
essential resource for employers, managers, trade unionists, people
with ASCs and their workmates and supporters.
Big challenges lie ahead for our society: increased automation of
work, and the threat of catastrophic climate change. But so, too,
are the huge possibilities presented by new technology and better
ways of organising our economy in the wake of neoliberalism's
failure. With the election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader, and
the extraordinary turnaround in Labour's fortunes in the 2017
election, the possibility has opened up to build an economy in
Britain that is radically fairer, radically more democratic, and
radically more sustainable. But we need ideas and strategies on how
to get there. Economics for the Many, edited and introduced by
Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, John McDonnell, features
contributions from the participants in McDonnell's New Economics
conferences, including Faiza Shaheen, Barry Gardiner, Prem Sikka,
Ann Pettifor, Paul Mason, Rebecca Long-Bailey and covers topics
from housing, public ownership and fairer international trading
systems to industrial policy for the 21st century and how to tackle
tax avoidance and regional imbalances. Together, the essays in this
volume lay out the vision for a new economics; one that works for
the many, not the few.

The BOOK is a fictional account of a newly ordained Southern
conservative preacher who gets his first job in a Northern
progressive church. The interaction of core beliefs provide a
dramatic context for contrasting and sometimes mutually exclusive
views of what God meant when He said this or that in the original
Book. The story centers on the Reverend Peter Simon Christianson
who sets out on a mission from God, to make disciples of all
nations. He is on his way north on Christmas Eve when a blizzard
and an accident strands him in the woods. He makes his way to a
mysterious cottage where he is taken in by an equally mysterious
old man, Doctor Ball. While waiting for the storm to end, Peter and
his host engage in friendly debate over questions such as "How do
you know that God exists?" with Peter defending the faith and
Doctor Ball acting as Devil's Advocate. In the process, Peter meets
Abaddon, The Angel of Death who continues to be his nemesis
throughout the book. Peter eventually finds his way to the church
and to his new life as a country pastor where he encounters other
mysterious characters including: Mother Ash, the previous pastor's
widow; Phineas Uriah Du, the little man with the huge brain; Aradia
Dawkins, the demure organist or demon guitarist; Little Zoe Potter,
the child of grace and beauty; and the Burke Family, Big Joe, Mary
and their son Billy soon to be deployed to the Middle East. A
provocative supporting cast includes: a priest, a rabbi, an imam, a
physician, a researcher, a crusading professor, and a gaggle of
church ladies, not to mention two guppies named Adam and Eve.
Follow the adventures of the Rev. Peter Simon Christianson through
twelve seasons and one hundred and ten episodes as he pursues his
dream to make disciples of all nations and, as he encounters the
perils of dreaming.
