Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
This magnificent Gypsy anthology was first published in London
1930. It contains over 300 items of prose and verse gleaned from
classical literature, folklore, history and true Gypsy life. It has
long been considered unique in its field and is very hard to find
in its first edition. READ COUNTRY BOOKS has now re-published this
scarce book incorporating the original text and illustrations. The
book's 388 pages are divided into 12 sections designed to bring to
light the chief facets of Gypsy life. They have been chosen for
their historical and archaeological interest, as well as
illustrations of the real Gypsy way of life, and yet the same wind
blows over all on this Gypsy heath.: - The Dark Race. - The Roaming
Life. - Field and Sky. - Gypsies and Gentiles. - The Romany Chye. -
Gypsy Children. - Sturt and Strife. - Black Arts. - A Gypsy
Bestiary. - Egipte Speche. - Scholar Gypsies. - Envoy. Also
included is a glossary of Romani words. This important book can be
thoroughly recommended for inclusion in the library of all with an
interest in Gypsy ways.
The DFE is committed to the concept of school-based training for
ITT students. The use of schoolteachers as the school-based expert
to assist in the training of the student has given rise to the
re-introduction, after 100 years, of the mentor. The use of mentors
in the secondary schools has already started with students
currently spending more than 60 per cent of their training in the
classroom. There are plans to expand this into the primary sector.
In preparation for this move there are currently several
experimental schemes in progress. The biggest of these is based at
Beford known as the TEAM project funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
The need for a definitive model of the primary mentor is urgent and
the members of the TEAM (Teacher Education and Mentorship) are
closest to that objective. The book brings together the research
findings of the project, each chapter being written by a course
team member.
This book is a facsimile reprint and may contain imperfections such
as marks, notations, marginalia and flawed pages.
