By assessing the transition in enterprise-employee relations in China over the six decades since the founding of the nation and the three decades since the implementation of a reform and opening up policy, this book investigates these changes from three key perspectives: occupation, operation and governance. The book chiefly analyzes the unit system structure of enterprises and mechanisms such as apprentice systems inside organizations and proposes a combination of systematic governance and civic governance. Further, it investigates in detail the transition in labor relations in township, state-owned and private enterprises under the contract system, market system and project system, reviews the factors contributing to contradictions in labor relations at different periods, and puts forward options for modifying labor relations in various ways, including their system and structure.

Mathematical and Economic Theory of Road Pricing (Hardcover): Hailiang Yang, Hai-Jun Huang Mathematical and Economic Theory of Road Pricing (Hardcover)
Hailiang Yang, Hai-Jun Huang
R4,591 Discovery Miles 45 910 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book provides the most recent methodological advances in applying advanced modeling techniques to road pricing. Distinguished from other
monographs that have focused on the empirical aspects, policy experiences, and environmental issues of road congestion and road pricing, most studies presented in the book are carried out within the general network equilibrium context with rigorous optimization and economic theories.
Topics discussed in the book include: fundamentals of traffic equilibrium problems; principle of marginal-cost road pricing; models and algorithms
for the general second-best road pricing problems; discriminatory and anonymous road pricing; social and spatial equities; Pareto pricing and revenue refunding schemes; pricing, capacity choice and financing; simultaneous determination of toll levels and locations; sequential pricing experiments with limited information; bounding the efficiency of road pricing; dynamic road pricing.

Valuable for any academic or professional reader interested in or involved in implementing road pricing.

Articulatory Speech Synthesis from the Fluid Dynamics of the Vocal Apparatus (Paperback): Stephen Levinson, Don Davis, Scott... Articulatory Speech Synthesis from the Fluid Dynamics of the Vocal Apparatus (Paperback)
Stephen Levinson, Don Davis, Scott Slimon, Jun Huang
R1,020 Discovery Miles 10 200 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book addresses the problem of articulatory speech synthesis based on computed vocal tract geometries and the basic physics of sound production in it. Unlike conventional methods based on analysis/synthesis using the well-known source filter model, which assumes the independence of the excitation and filter, we treat the entire vocal apparatus as one mechanical system that produces sound by means of fluid dynamics. The vocal apparatus is represented as a three-dimensional time-varying mechanism and the sound propagation inside it is due to the non-planar propagation of acoustic waves through a viscous, compressible fluid described by the Navier-Stokes equations. We propose a combined minimum energy and minimum jerk criterion to compute the dynamics of the vocal tract during articulation. Theoretical error bounds and experimental results show that this method obtains a close match to the phonetic target positions while avoiding abrupt changes in the articulatory trajectory. The vocal folds are set into aerodynamic oscillation by the flow of air from the lungs. The modulated air stream then excites the moving vocal tract. This method shows strong evidence for source-filter interaction. Based on our results, we propose that the articulatory speech production model has the potential to synthesize speech and provide a compact parameterization of the speech signal that can be useful in a wide variety of speech signal processing problems. Table of Contents: Introduction / Literature Review / Estimation of Dynamic Articulatory Parameters / Construction of Articulatory Model Based on MRI Data / Vocal Fold Excitation Models / Experimental Results of Articulatory Synthesis / Conclusion

R3,603 R3,153 Discovery Miles 31 530 Save R450 (12%) Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to the evolution of the internet as the interconnection not just of computers, but also uniquely identifiable, pervasive embedded devices. Research has estimated there will be nearly 30 billion devices on the Internet of Things within the next decade. The implementation and deployment of the IoT brings with it management challenges around seamless integration, heterogeneity, scalability, mobility, security, and many other issues. This book explores these challenges and possible solutions. Topics covered include topology control for building scalable energy efficient IoT; a survey of wireless sensor network operating systems; concepts, designs and implementation of wireless sensor network operating systems; OSIRIS - a framework for sensor-based monitoring systems; modeling and tracing events in RFID-enabled supply chains; a new clone detection approach in RFID-enabled supply chains; participatory sensing networks - a paradigm to achieve IoT applications; market structure analysis of the economics of IoT; and IoT and big data applications for urban planning and building smart cities. This book is essential reading for researchers in academia and industry developing IoT technologies - an interdisciplinary area that brings together researchers in telecommunications, sensor networks, computing and security.
