This guide to the ISTE Standards for Educators: Computational
Thinking Competencies will help educators incorporate CT in their
curriculum to deepen student learning. Computational thinking (CT)
is a powerful ingredient for solving ambiguous, complex and
open-ended problems by drawing on principles and practices central
to computer science (CS). CT is at the core of CS and is a gateway
to sparking student interest and confidence in learning CS. The
ISTE Standards for Educators: Computational Thinking Competencies
were created to inspire every educator to add more computational
thinking into their core problem-solving strategies. These
competencies augment and home in on the competencies embedded in
the ISTE Standards for Students and Educators. The information in
this guide will provide a framework and structure to build creative
learning opportunities in CT and increase students' ability to
adapt to unfamiliar challenges, allowing for more success with
innovative lesson plans. This booklet contains: An overview of
computer science and computational thinking and how they interact.
Examples from across the subject/grade spectrum, including
kindergarten reading, third grade math, sixth grade science and
10th grade social studies. Ideas for adding CT to lessons to
enhance the knowledge base of students, letting them build the
skills and confidence to persist when unexpected obstacles arise.
Reflection questions and tips to help educators integrate CT into
their lessons. Explanation of how the CT competencies complement
the ISTE Standards for Educators. This booklet will help educators
understand the CT Competencies so they can effectively build CT
into their curriculum, no matter what subject they teach.
Books on abortion (other than collections of readings) typically
express and defend a particular position. This book gives both
sides, as evenly and objectively as possible; it gets to the heart
of each position, the core idea which animates it. It then leaves
the reader to make up his or her own mind. It is an introduction to
the issue, not only to the basic positions on the issue. Despite
being brief, it contains careful analyses and discussions of many
topics often not found at all in other works. The treatment is
thorough and detailed, but succinct. Understanding Abortion: From
Mixed Feelings to Rational Thought is aimed at all people who want
a better understanding of what the two sides on this issue are
really saying, and what reasons they give for their position. Many
people assume that this issue is an interminable one, with "no
clear answers"; a purely emotional debate that cannot be addressed
by the use of reasoned arguments. The book shows that this is not
the case.
Information and communication technologies play a crucial role in a
number of modern industries. Among these, education has perhaps
seen the greatest increases in efficiency and availability through
Internet-based technologies. E-Learning as a Socio-Cultural System:
A Multidimensional Analysis provides readers with a critical
examination of the theories, models, and best practices in online
education from a social perspective, evaluating blended, distance,
and mobile learning systems with a focus on the interactions of
their practitioners. Within the pages of this volume, teachers,
students, administrators, policy makers, and IT professionals will
all find valuable advice and enriching personal experiences in the
field of online education.
Agent-based modeling and social simulation have emerged as an
interdisciplinary area of social science that includes
computational economics, organizational science, social dynamics,
and complex systems. This area contributes to enriching our
understanding of the fundamental processes of social phenomena
caused by complex interactions among agents. Bringing together
diverse approaches to social simulation and research agendas, this
book presents a unique collection of contributions from the Second
World Congress on Social Simulation, held in 2008 at George Mason
University in Washington DC, USA. This book in particular includes
articles on norms, diffusion, social networks, economy, markets and
organizations, computational modeling, and programming
environments, providing new hypotheses and theories, new simulation
experiments compared with various data sets, and new methods for
model design and development. These works emerged from a global and
interdisciplinary scientific community of the three regional
scientific associations for social simulation: the North American
Association for Computational Social and Organizational Science
(NAACSOS; now the Computational Social Science Society, CSSS), the
European Social Simulation Association (ESSA), and the Pacific
Asian Association for Agent-bBased Approach in Social Systems
Sciences (PAAA)."
This book uses Nigeria's Afri-capitalist and South Africa's Ubuntu
Business models as case studies that reconcile the tension between
Africa Rising and Pan African economics, presenting their
convergence as Africa's viable Third Way route to global
development. In presenting Afri-capitalism and Ubuntu Business as
national, business sector manifestations of a "new" Pan Africanism,
the author explores Africa's "culturalist" path in engaging the
international political economy. This is an African customized
engagement that parallels the alternative models of China's
"market-socialism" and Latin America's "21st C Socialism". All
present alternatives to realist, liberal, and structuralist
standpoints, inclining instead toward constructivist political
economies derived from the perspectives and subject conditions of
African economic histories, socio-cultures, alternative
modernities, and agent-led initiatives.

This study seeks to critically examine the field and function of
social stratification, with emphasis on Africana phenomena. Phrased
another way, this edited volume attempts to study and focus on who
gets what and why, with regard to resources and structural
application of support. The John Henrik Clarke query is who made
this arrangement of leadership in America. Moreover, serving as a
reference, this study will assist researchers in contextualizing
and thematically examining the structural and resource allocation
of disparity exhibited toward Africana people. This manuscript of
essays is the first its kind. This study incorporates an
interdisciplinary scope to examine the concept of Africana Social
Stratification in the subject areas of: history, political science,
economics, Africana Studies, and social policy.
Verico discusses the ASEAN economic integration from dual
perspectives of time span (trade, investment and finance) and
framework (bilateral, sub-regional, regional and regional plus).
The work is a comprehensive study of the integration in the wake of
the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC)'s inauguration in late 2015.
Examining various economic agreement levels from the ASEAN Free
Trade Area (AFTA), Bilateral Free Trade Agreement (BFTA) and the
AEC to financial integration in ASEAN, Verico attempts to envisage
the future of ASEAN in completing its regional economic integration
from trade to investment and finance. Verico argues that, in the
absence of a customs union, ASEAN must utilize the open-regionalism
frameworks of the ASEAN Plus One, ASEAN Plus Three, Regional
Comprehensive Economic Partnership and others in order to shift its
economic integration level in this way.
