There are some serious concerns and critical questions about the on-going minority protesting in China, such as Tibetan monks' self-immolations, Muslims' suicide bombings, and Uyghur large-scale demonstrations. Why are minorities such as the Uyghur dissatisfied, when China is rising as a world power? What kind of struggle must they go through to maintain their identity, heritage, and rights? How does the government deal with this ethnic dissatisfaction and minority riots? And what is ethnic China's future in the 21st century? Ethnic China examines these issues from the perspective of Chinese-American scholars from fields such as economics, political science, criminal justice, law, anthropology, sociology, and education. The contributors introduce and explore the theory and practice of policy patterns, political systems, and social institutions by identifying key issues in Chinese government, society, and ethnic community contained within the larger framework of the international sphere.Their endeavors move beyond the existing scholarship and seek to spark new debates and proposed solutions while reflecting on established schools of history, religion, linguistics, and gender studies.
PEM Fuel Cell Failure Mode Analysis presents a systematic analysis of PEM fuel cell durability and failure modes. It provides readers with a fundamental understanding of insufficient fuel cell durability, identification of failure modes and failure mechanisms of PEM fuel cells, fuel cell component degradation testing, and mitigation strategies against degradation. The first several chapters of the book examine the degradation of various fuel cell components, including degradation mechanisms, the effects of operating conditions, mitigation strategies, and testing protocols. The book then discusses the effects of different contamination sources on the degradation of fuel cell components and explores the relationship between external environment and the degradation of fuel cell components and systems. It also reviews the correlation between operational mode, such as start-up and shut-down, and the degradation of fuel cell components and systems. The last chapter explains how the design of fuel cell hardware relates to failure modes. Written by international scientists active in PEM fuel cell research, this volume is enriched with practical information on various failure modes analysis for diagnosing cell performance and identifying failure modes of degradation. This volume constitutes the refereed post-conference proceedings of the 3rd Joint China-Dutch Workshop on Game Theory and Applications and the 7th China Meeting on Game Theory and Applications, GTA 2016, held in Fuzhou, China, in November 2016. Though some inroads have been made in studying this folk custom, this work represents the first comprehensive and systematic monograph. The book examines the topic at the two main levels of "history" and "theory". Combining historical textual research, contemporary textual research, and field study, the book presents systematic information on the folk custom of craftsmen-built houses in China. At the level of theoretical research, it puts forward some original opinions on the major theoretical issues, such as the folk custom of religious belief, the boundary between superstition and religion, and the relationship between oral literature and ritual. The book provides a guide to help readers systematically understand the folk custom of craftsmen-built houses in China. Sharing valuable insights into Chinese architectural history, as well as religious studies, cultural anthropology, and folklore, it will appeal to researchers in the fields of folklore, cultural anthropology, and architecture and can also serve as a popular science book for understanding Chinese architectural culture.

The primary research questions in this work sought to illuminate and explore how Chinese rural girls negotiate media and gender roles in their daily lives. The ultimate goal of my study was to let these rural girls' voices be heard and understood from their own perspectives. Based on four months of fieldwork in a rural elementary school in the eastern Shandong province of China, which involved observations of and interviews with the participants, the study illustrated the many ways the girls interpreted media gender messages in relation to their own lives. This work will appeal to students and scholars who are interested in understanding children, media, and gender in such a developing country as China. Meanwhile, people interested in knowing the conditions and people of contemporary China, changes and urbanization in its rural area,will also find this book useful.
Audio and Visual Analytics in Marketing addresses questions around the application and use of audio/visual data analytics for business decision making in the post-digital economy. It does so by: (1) developing a framework for understanding the internal states of individuals based on audio/visual signals and incorporating works in the domain of audio/visual (A/V) data analytics into marketing research in order to identify future research opportunities; (2) providing an overview of methodologies that are commonly used in conducting research with A/V data; (3) providing a review of A/V analytics-based research in various business contexts; and (4) reviewing the business practices using A/V analytics and identifying the future trends in both research and business applications. The rest of the monograph is organized as follows: The authors first propose a framework for A/V data-based research in the business domain and discuss how A/V data analytics can be used to support business decision making in various contexts. They then provide an overview of the key techniques and tools used in A/V data analytics and discuss the procedures and key methodological questions. Finally, they discuss how the A/V analytics has been used in business practices and its trend and future development.
