Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading: Mechanisms, Mechanics and Modelling (Hardcover, 1996 ed.): J. Bressers Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading: Mechanisms, Mechanics and Modelling (Hardcover, 1996 ed.)
J. Bressers; Contributions by M. Steen; Edited by L. Remy; Contributions by J.L. Valles
R5,879 Discovery Miles 58 790 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The International Symposium "Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading", held at Petten (The Netherlands) on May 22-24, 1995, was jointly organized by the Institute for Advanced Materials of The Joint Research Centre, E. C. , and by the Societe Fran~se de Metallurgie et de Materiaux. The fast heating and cooling cycles experienced by many high temperature components cause thermally induced stresses, which often operate in combination with mechanical loads. The resulting thermal / mechanical fatigue cycle leads to material degradation mechanisms and failure modes typical of service cycles. The growing awareness that the synergism between the combined thermal and mechanical loads can not be reproduced by means of isothermal tests, has resulted in an increasing interest in thermal and thermo-mechanical fatigue testing. This trend has been reinforced by the constant pull by industry for more performant, yet safer high temperature systems, pushing the materials to the limit of their properties. Dedicated ASTM meetings in particular have set the scene for this area of research. The proceedings of the symposium organized by D. A. Spera and D. F. Mowbray in 1975 provided a reference book on thermal fatigue which reflects the knowledge and experimental capabilities of the mid-seventies.

The Handbook of Midwifery Research (Paperback, New): M. Steen The Handbook of Midwifery Research (Paperback, New)
M. Steen
R998 Discovery Miles 9 980 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Research is a fundamental part of midwifery practice. However, not everyone finds it easy to understand the basic principles, and particularly the language of research. This accessible handbook enables midwives and student midwives to firstly understand how to search and make sense of research evidence, how to write a research proposal and finally how to undertake a research study. The Handbook of Midwifery Research specifically focuses on the needs of midwives and students and helps increase the knowledge and understanding of midwifery research, enabling the reader to undertake research with confidence. With case studies, learning objectives and clear examples throughout, this is an essential purchase for any midwife or student wanting to understand or undertake research. This handbook includes useful tools and techniques to assist midwives and students to keep themselves up-to-date with the best available evidence, enabling them to apply this evidence to their own clinical practice. * An essential resource for midwifery students as well as qualified midwives * Clear, straightforward, and accessible in style * Provides midwives and students with the skills to undertake research with confidence * Provides examples throughout to apply research to midwifery practice * Includes a glossary of research terms

Laser Material Processing (Paperback, 4th ed. 2010): William M. Steen Laser Material Processing (Paperback, 4th ed. 2010)
William M. Steen; Contributions by Kenneth G. Watkins; Jyotirmoy Mazumder
R1,736 Discovery Miles 17 360 Ships in 9 - 17 working days

The informal style of Laser Material Processing (4th Edition) will guide you smoothly from the basics of laser physics to the detailed treatment of all the major materials processing techniques for which lasers are now essential.

Helps you to understand how the laser works and to decide which laser is best for your purposes.

New chapters on laser physics, drilling, micro- and nanomanufacturing and biomedical laser processing reflect the changes in the field since the last edition, updating and completing the range of practical knowledge about the processes possible with lasers already familiar to established users of this well-known text.

Provides a firm grounding in the safety aspects of laser use.

Now with end-of-chapter exercises to help students assimilate information as they learn.

The authors' lively presentation is supported by a number of original cartoons by Patrick Wright and Noel Ford which will bring a smile to your face and ease the learning process."
