The term Utopia, coined by Thomas More in 1516, contains an inherent semantic ambiguity: it could be read as eu topos (good place) or ou topos (no place). The authors of this volume analyze this polysemous notion and its fascination for scholars across the centuries, who have developed a variety of visions and ways to explain the "realization" of utopian discourses. The experts in the fields of sociology, political science, economics, computer science, literature and linguistics offer extensive studies about how utopian scenarios are realized in different cultural contexts.

Die Untertitelung erfreut sich zunehmender Beliebtheit in der Forschung. Der Hauptgrund liegt in ihrer multidimensionalen Natur, da Untertitelung (als Prozess) und Untertitel (als Endprodukt) als interlingual, intralingual und intersemiotisch zu betrachten sind. Die Beitrage des Sammelbandes untersuchen die deutsch- und die italienischsprachige Untertitelung in ihren vielfaltigen Aspekten: von der Art des untertitelten Produkts (wie Kinofilm, Fernsehfilm, Theaterstuck) und der Sprachrichtung (wie Deutsch-Italienisch, Italienisch-Deutsch, Deutsch-Deutsch) bis zu spezifischen Aspekten des Untertitelns (wie die UEbersetzung von Realia). Es handelt sich um das erste Werk, das spezifisch die Untertitelung (und nicht nur die Synchronisation) im Deutschen und im Italienischen in den Mittelpunkt stellt. Damit ist es von Interesse fur Sprach- und MedienwissenschaftlerInnen sowie UEbersetzungswissenschaftlerInnen.
