Galen, the personal physician of the emperor Marcus Aurelius, wrote what was long regarded as the definitive guide to a healthy diet, and profoundly influenced medical thought for centuries. Based on his theory of the four humours, these works describe the effects on health of a vast range of foods including lettuce, lard, peaches and hyacinths. This book makes all his texts on food available in English for the first time, and provides many captivating insights into the ancient understanding of food and health.

This volume contains the proceedings of the mini-workshop on
Topological Complexity and Related Topics, held from February
28-March 5, 2016, at the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut
Oberwolfach. Topological complexity is a numerical homotopy
invariant, defined by Farber in the early twenty-first century as
part of a topological approach to the motion planning problem in
robotics. It continues to be the subject of intensive research by
homotopy theorists, partly due to its potential applicability, and
partly due to its close relationship to more classical invariants,
such as the Lusternik-Schnirelmann category and the Schwarz genus.
This volume contains survey articles and original research papers
on topological complexity and its many generalizations and
variants, to give a snapshot of contemporary research on this
exciting topic at the interface of pure mathematics and
engineering.
This book offers a cultural and culinary glimpse of the final years
of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and its aftermath through the life
of one family. Part historical account, part recipe collection, it
takes food as the vital element that survived war, persecution,
bankruptcy, displacement and exile. To cook these recipes is both
to celebrate that survival and to reflect on another time and
another world, from the piquant delicacy of tomato soup enriched
with rice to the rich sumptuousness of diverse cakes.
Have you ever had a significant moment simply slips by you in life?
Priceless and life altering moments in which you should have done
or said something that would have aligned your purpose and destiny
in any phase of your life? Have you ever had what I call a "missed
the moment" experience, that leaves you wishing you could go back
in time and respond differently? Perhaps you have indeed missed
some significant moments in the past, but it's not too late to
prepare for the future. That can be changed today!
