The subjects of these poems are the usual ones: love and death. A
few were inspired by nature or history. All were written over a
period of half a century, in three countries--Turkey, Greece, and
the United States.
When I lived in Kavala is a memoir of 26 years in Greece, Kavala
and probably all of Greece then was a good place for children, and
a good place for adults, too, and I will always be partly a
Kavaliote.
Though these poems were written over a period of half a century,
only a handful have ever before been published. Their subjects are
the usual ones: love, loss, death, and beauty, with an occasional
wryly humorous observation on human folly.
