Mapping the uncertain landscape of education in the wake of the
COVID-19 pandemic, Digital Learning in Higher Education examines
how higher education (HE) institutions have moved to widespread
digital learning in an effort to maintain the educational
experience. The book navigates the possibilities that lie ahead,
exploring the beginnings of a new future for HE. Reflections from
HE practitioners on this rapid transition to digital and remote
learning offer key perspectives on the new online learning mode, as
experienced by students, teaching staff, and those in the wider
field of education, including learning technologists, librarians,
and publishers. Spurred on by the changes in thinking necessitated
by the pandemic, the book highlights the possibilities facilitated
by online learning, from enhanced inclusivity to making education
accessible to wider audiences. It concludes with a proposal for how
we might "build back better" and continue to evolve the sector.
Timely and comprehensive, this book will support the pedagogical
decision-making of HE practitioners both now and in the future.
Offering an insight into what the "new normal" of education may
soon resemble, it will also be beneficial to HE management and
other educational professionals, helping to guide their policy and
financial decision-making processes regarding digital technology.
As international development presents enormous moral, political and
ethical challenges, so researching and understanding it requires
negotiation of its contested contours.
The chapters draw on research conducted around the world using a
range of methodologies, perspectives and commitments, rooted in
diverse disciplines.
Through their exploration of the interrelationship of qualitative
methodologies and development theory, policy and practice, the book
demonstrates the importance of placing qualitative methodologies
within their conceptual, practical and political contexts. It also
highlights the important but contested contribution that
qualitative methodology can make to not only understanding
development, but engendering it.
Studies in Qualitative Methodology is now available online at
ScienceDirect ??? full-text online of volumes 6 onwards.
*Explores qualitative methodology and development in terms of the
ways researchers negotiate boundaries and borders
*Asks questions of development research, critiques relationships
between researchers and subjects, and challenges connections
between research and change
*Demonstrates the importance of placing qualitative methods within
their right context
PHP Crash Course takes you from beginner to professional PHP

learn how to create consistent, modern-looking web pages with
easily customizable templates by combining dynamic PHP scripts,
static HTML code, and Bootstrap styling; how to write scripts that
can communicate with MySQL to enable data-rich web apps; and how to
implement best-practice website security. As you follow along,
you'll learn real-life patterns and modern programming techniques
for creating, extending, and modifying web applications, all using
the powerful PHP language.
This book relays the largely untold story of the approximately
1,100 Australian war graves workers whose job it was to locate,
identify exhume and rebury the thousands of Australian soldiers who
died in Europe during the First World War. It tells the story of
the men of the Australian Graves Detachment and the Australian
Graves Service who worked in the period 1919 to 1922 to ensure that
grieving families in Australia had a physical grave which they
could mourn the loss of their loved ones. By presenting
biographical vignettes of eight men who undertook this work, the
book examines the mechanics of the commemoration of the Great War
and extends our understanding of the individual toll this onerous
task took on the workers themselves.
The research fields of "artificial intelligence and music" and
"cognitive musicology" are relative newcomers to the many
interdisciplinary groupings based around the centre of AI and
cognitive science. They are concerned with the computational study
and emulation of human behaviour with respect to music, in many
aspects, and with varying degrees of emphasis on psychological
plausibility. Recent publications have included work in such
diverse areas as rhythm and pitch perception, performance,
composition, and formal analysis. Music shares with language the
property of giving access to human mental behaviour in a very
direct way. As such, it has the potential to be a very useful
domain for AI work. Furthermore, in the course of time, AI related
work will surely throw light back onto some or all of the fields to
which it is applied. Indeed, we are already beginning to feel the
benefits of the application of AI techniques to music technology.
It is not surprising, therefore, that one of the first areas
interest for of musical AI study is that of music education. There
are many ways in which an artificial intelligence or cognitive
science approach to music education may be applied - for example,
to automate tuition, to explain learning processes, to provide
metaphors for human computer interaction, and so on. This
collection of papers, which is intended to give an impression of
both the breadth and depth of the field, originated from a workshop
entitled "Music Education: An Artificial Intelligence Approach."
