Wirtschafts- und Unternehmensethik hat sich als wissenschaftliche
Disziplin durchgesetzt. Aber ist Ethik ein effektiver
Weichensteller für die Zukunft unserer Gesellschaft? Ist sie auch
in ökonomischen Angelegenheiten verlässlich? Funktionieren
Konversationscharakter verbindet Unternehmer, Akteure, Konsumenten,
Nuclear family and kibbutz childrearing practices are compared
from a Rawlsian perspective of justice. Based upon the kibbutz
educational system, which has reinstituted the family, Geiger and
Fischer propose a model of educational change for consideration in
the United States. This model is designed to strengthen the nuclear
family while improving the prospects of disadvantaged, anomic, and
unattached youth.
Geiger and Fischer examine, within a Rawlsian perspective,
several child-rearing institutions affecting children. Justice as
fairness would consider a child-rearing institution and its
inequalities as fair if there are no alternative arrangements under
which the prospects of least-advantaged children could be improved.
Among these least-advantaged children are those who are neglected,
abused, and stripped of self-respect. As the nuclear family
disintegrates, the authors ask whether it can fulfill its
child-rearing function. Utilizing a self-report study conducted on
socialization and delinquency in Israel as well as several other
observational studies, the authors demonstrate that in a more
egalitarian structure such as the kibbutz, least-advantaged
children have more opportunities to develop into autonomous
responsible individuals. For Americans, the kibbutz educational
system shows new paths for change from nursery school through high
school that would allow for greater bonds between the family,
school, work, and the community. An emerging sense of community
would also stimulate the moral and intellectual growth of
disadvantaged youth. This book is recommended to researchers and
policy makers in the areas of education, delinquency, and social
welfare.
This book recounts a successful effort to resocialize criminal
offenders placed in Kibbutzim. Social scientist Michael Fischer and
educational philosopher Brenda Geiger describe the events and
experiences that unfolded when a Kibbutz adopted an Israeli
ex-convict as a temporary member of its collective. They conclude
that resocialization is achievable: that a world of hard work,
interdependence, and self-denial can successfully compete against
the temptations for adventure and diversion in an offender's past
and present. Fischer and Geiger reconstruct the subjective
experiences of the Israeli ex-convicts who were invited to live and
work as members on separate Kibbutzim. They detail how a protective
environment, daily routines, egalitarianism, peer group support,
acceptance, and trust yielded involvement, commitment, and higher
self-esteem on the part of the offenders. Relating the kibbutz
experience to theories of social psychology and criminology,
Fischer and Geiger offer a model for resocialization combining
group dynamics with social learning in a context of meaningful work
and acceptance. This study is valuable to students and scholars of
social psychology, criminology, and Judaic Studies.
As increasing numbers of social anthropoloists use computers for
wordprocessing, interest in other applications inevitably follows.
"Applications in Computing for Social Anthropologists" addresses
this interest and encourages researchers to make full use of their
computers to help them organize data. Firstly, the author discusses
computing applications in relation to research activities shared by
all anthropologists - ethnographic fieldwork, management and
analysis of footnotes and the use of visual and aural material. The
book then illustrates the way in which computer-based
representations can satisfy the requirements of anthropological
methods with a detailed examination of representing kinship
relations in an original way. Nal developments in the
representation of visual and aural data on computers, as well as
possible applications of knowledge based models are also
introduced.
While the implementation of evidence-based medicine guidelines is
well studied, there has been little investigation into the extent
to which a parallel evidence-based management movement has been
influential within health care organizations. This book explores
the various management knowledges and associated texts apparent in
English health care organizations, and considers how the local
reception of these texts was influenced by the macro level
political economy of public services reform evident during the
period of the politics of austerity. The research outlined in this
volume shows that very few evidence-based management texts are
apparent within health care organizations, despite the influence of
certain knowledge producers, such as national agencies, think
tanks, management consultancies, and business schools in the
industry. Bringing together the often disconnected academic
literature on management knowledge and public policy, the volume
addresses the ways in which preferred management knowledges and
texts in these publicly funded settings are sensitive to the macro
level political economy of public services reform, offering an
empirically grounded critique of the evidence-based management
movement.

Stanley Cavell's work is distinctive not only in its importance to
philosophy but also for its remarkable interdisciplinary range.
Cavell is read avidly by students of film, photography, painting,
and music, but especially by students of literature, for whom
Cavell offers major readings of Thoreau, Emerson, Shakespeare, and
others. In this first book-length study of Cavell's writings,
Michael Fischer examines Cavell's relevance to the controversies
surrounding poststructuralist literary theory, particularly works
by Jacques Derrida, J. Hillis Miller, Paul de Man, and Stanley
Fish.
Throughout his study, Fischer focuses on skepticism, a central
concern of Cavell's multifaceted work. Cavell, following J. L.
Austin and Wittgenstein, does not refute the radical
epistemological questioning of Descartes, Hume, and others, but
rather characterizes skepticism as a significant human possibility
or temptation. As presented by Fischer, Cavell's accounts of both
external-world and other-minds skepticism share significant
affinities with deconstruction, a connection overlooked by
contemporary literary theorists.
Fischer follows Cavell's lead in examining how different genres
address the problems raised by skepticism and goes on to show how
Cavell draws on American and English romanticism in fashioning a
response to it. He concludes by analyzing Cavell's remarks about
current critical theory, focusing on Cavell's uneasiness with some
of the conclusions reached by its practitioners. Fischer shows that
Cavell's insights, grounded in powerful analyses of Descartes,
Hume, and Wittgenstein, permit a fresh view of Derrida, Miller, de
Man, and Fish. The result is not only a revealing
characterizationof deconstruction but a much-needed and insightful
introduction to Cavell's rich but difficult oeuvre.
Franz Michael Fischer investigates the relationships between the
application of the controllability principle and managers'
cognitive, affective, and behavioral responses. The author further
explores the impact of several important contextual factors on the
basic relationships and, thus, develops moderated mediation models.
He reveals that the application of the controllability principle
has a significant effect on role stress and role orientation which,
in turn, are related to managerial performance and affective
constructs.
Werte setzen stets Grenzen. So entstehen Ethikraume, Kulturraume
mit ihren je spezifischen Politiken. Doch was herrscht jenseits
dieser Grenzen? Eine Welt anderer Wertvorstellungen? Eine Welt der
Barbarei? Welche Rolle spielt wirklich Europas propagiertes
Wertesystem, was konstituiert seine Wertegemeinschaft und damit
auch die konkrete Wertepraxis der EU? Politik ist insofern auch ein
Management von Grenzerfahrungen und Grenzuberschreitungen. Wie
verlaufen Wertewandelprozesse in einzelnen Landern, etwa in
OEsterreich?
Jahrhundert beschreiben?

Traugott Roser bietet damit all jenen Klarung
seelsorgerlicher Praxis in klinischen Einrichtungen befassen,
