Elijah Del Medigo (1458-1493) was a Jewish Aristotelian philosopher
living in Padua, whose work influenced many of the leading
philosophers of the early Renaissance. His Two Investigations on
the Nature of the Human Soul uses Aristotle's De anima to theorize
on two of the most discussed and most controversial philosophical
debates of the Renaissance: the nature of human intellect and the
obtaining of immortality through intellectual perfection. In this
book, Michael Engel places Del Medigo's philosophical work and his
ideas about the human intellect within the context of the wider
Aristotelian tradition. Providing a detailed account of the unique
blend of Hebrew, Islamic, Latin and Greek traditions that
influenced the Two Investigations, Elijah Del Medigo and Paduan
Aristotelianism provides an important contribution to our
understanding of Renaissance Aristotelianisms and scholasticisms.
In particular, through his defense of the Muslim philosopher
Averroes' hotly debated interpretation of the De anima and his
rejection of the moderate Latin Aristotelianism championed by the
Christian Thomas Aquinas, Engel traces how Del Medigo's work on the
human intellect contributed to the development of a major
Aristotelian controversy. Investigating the ways in which
multicultural Aristotelian sources contributed to his own theory of
a united human intellect, Elijah Del Medigo and Paduan
Aristotelianism demonstrates the significant impact made by this
Jewish philosopher on the history of the Aristotelian tradition.
The 19th century saw the rise of Biblical Criticism in German
universities, culminating in Wellhausen's radical revision of the
history of biblical times and religion. For German-Jewish
intellectuals, the academic discipline promised emancipation from
traditional Christian readings of Scripture - but at the same time
suffered from what was perceived as anti-Jewish bias, this time in
scholarly robes. "Reclaiming the Hebrew Bible" describes the
German-Jewish strategies to cope with Biblical Criticism - varying
from an enthusiastic welcome in the early decades, through modified
adoption in Jewish Reform circles, to resolute rejection in the
Orthodox camp. The study surveys the awareness and attitudes
towards Biblical Criticism in the popular German-Jewish
periodicals, and analyzes in depth the works of the first modern
Jewish historian I. M. Jost (1793-1860), of the theologian S. L.
Steinheim (1789-1866), and of the Reform activist Siegmund Maybaum
(1844-1919).
By combining an ethnographic study of youth with an analysis of the
local state in the making, this research monograph introduces the
perspective of "meandering lives" to grasp being young and growing
up in the Gueckedou borderland, a remote space approximately 700
kilometers southeast of Conakry, Guinea's capital. This
history-sensitive perspective represents a fruitful lens to not
only depict youth but to also draw a nuanced picture of the
functioning of the state in Guinea.

The time to come - as well as the exploration thereof - remains
elusive for social actors and social scientists alike. The
contributors accept the challenge to depict young men and women's
future-creating activities in urban contexts of sub-Saharan Africa.
Very consciously, they study young graduates having obtained a
university degree and provide a vivid picture of their strategies
to socially grow older by doing adulthood in contexts of great
uncertainty. The examples include Burkina Faso, Guinea, Ethiopia,
Mali and Tanzania, visually enriched through pictures taken by
young Malian photographers.

Masterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich Medien /

Note: 1,3, Universitat Bayreuth (Juniorprofessur Direct Marketing),
Veranstaltung: Online Marketing, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Obwohl
Marketingforschung bisher keine Beachtung.
