Lawrence Higgins, an enormously fat black cat, has breakfast with Mrs Higgins, lunch with the Normans, tea with old Mr Mason and supper with the Barclay-Lloyds. None of them know why he is so fat on just one meal a day! Lawrence is happy until he finds the walking from house to house tiring and begins to get indigestion. His friends tell him to lose weight if he wants a girl friend so he begins to spend one day in four with all his owners. He gets thinner but the cat he fancies down the road tells him she doesn't like slim boys - she's lost her heart to an enormously fat black cat she used to see up the road! Triumphantly Lawrence returns to his four meals a day, spurred on by the thought of meeting Bella when he's back to his normal size.
Poppet is an elephant. When he is born, his mother warns him against mice because they run up elephants' trunks. Poppet spends time asking various creatures if they are mice. Then one of them says yes. However, Momo persuades Poppet that this is an old wives' tale and they soon become friends.
Bear is playing hide and seek in the forest with his good friends, Lion and Fox. But a day of games has made him very tired indeed and, in the shadow of a tall tree, Bear falls into a very deep sleep. A mouse, a hare, a squirrel and a ladybug all mistake Bear for a nice, cosy rug. His fur is so soft and furry and snug. It's so tempting and they all settle down for a rest, but get quite a surprise when Bear wakes up! Charmingly illustrated, The Rug Bear is a fun rhyming story which will be enjoyed by readers aged 0-5 years.
Digital technology permeates the physical world. Social media and virtual reality, accessed via internet capable devices - computers, smartphones, tablets and wearables - affect nearly all aspects of social life. The contributions to this volume apply innovative forms of ethnographic research to the digital realm. They examine the emergence of new forms of digital life, such as political participation through comments on East Greenlandic news blogs, the personal use of video broadcasting applications, the rise of transnational migrant networks facilitated by social media, or the effects of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram on global conflicts.
