He's ingenious, he's phobic, he's obsessive-compulsive. Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Tony Shalhoub is a riot in Monk, the show that critics are praising as fresh, exciting and utterly original.
Monk's hilarious, offbeat antics have made him unfit for duty but he's back as a police consultant to help out on their most baffling cases. The brilliant but neurotic Monk is now fighting crime as well as his abnormal fears of germs, cars, heights, crowds and virtually everything else known to man in the best detective show to come along in decades.
Nothing on TV generated more fun than this and now you can enjoy the entire first season of Monk on DVD.
Horror from director Brandon Cronenberg in which an employee at a clinic that harvests viruses from sick celebrities finds himself caught up in the mystery surrounding the death of a starlet. Syd March (Caleb Landry Jones) tries to maintain a sense of detachment while working in the clinic, the most startling manifestation of a celebrity culture that has reached the point of insanity. With fans now entering the clinic to be infected with the same virus as their favourite celebrity, Syd dutifully provides the injections and also earns a healthy side income by smuggling viruses out of the clinic in his own body and selling them on the black market. However, when Syd becomes infected with the same disease that kills superstar Hannah Geist (Sarah Gadon), he finds himself at the epicentre of the ensuing chaos, fighting against a potentially fatal illness while being pursued by distraught Geist fans and seeking to discover the mystery behind the star's death.

This is a book written for the 1.1 billion human beings who are searching for something secular, agnostic or nonreligious "In the woman's dream, the spirit had come to her and had given her a message that she could not ignore. The black-chicken spirit had told her to found a religion, one based upon in individual and communal worship, one that included the building or your own church where only you could go." This is a book of true first-hand stories and insights that address religious beliefs - where they come from and where they might be going. It confronts the difficulties between age-old human beliefs and modern scientific discoveries, discussing the impacts and discontinuities that result. Violence, permission, sex, the afterlife are all here, but not in the usual way. Who will actually be on the Starship Enterprise? How many sentient beings are there in the universe? What is a soul, really? What does "holy" actually mean? These are a few of the issues that are dealt with through the stories. Of course the biggy, and indicated by the title of the book, is exactly where do we and our religions fit in a universe of billion trillion stars, and an unimaginable number life-sustaining planets?
This is a book about the making of a hero - a rescuer. There are
few of us that can claim to be bigger-than-life heroes, but surely
the story of Dr. Otto Trott's life is the story of one of these.
Because of his existence many lives have been saved or improved,
human suffering has been reduced, and the world is a better place.
What greater statement can be made about a person?
