Okonomie nDd Mathematik - Der Titel der Festschrift zum 65. Geburtstag von Rudolf Henn charakterisiert im lahr 1987 zumindest partiell eine Realitat. So sind die Disziplinen der mathematischen Wirtschaftstheorie, der Statistik und des Operations Research heute fest integrierte Bestandteile eines wirtschafts- wissenschaftlichen Studiums. Eine Reihe von makro- und mikrookonomischen Spezialgebieten hat in den vergangenen lahrzehnten eine starke Mathematisie- rung erfahren. Bestimmte Elemente der Analysis, der Differenzen- und Diffe- rentialgleichungen, der Funktionalanalysis und der linearen Algebra haben zu bedeutenden Entwicklungen in der neoklassischen und mehrsektoralen Wachs- tumstheorie, der Gleichgewichtstheorie, der makro- und mikrookonomischen Produktions- und Preistheorie gefUhrt. Empirische Wirtschaftsforschung ohne Okonometrie ist heute nicht mehr denkbar. 1m betriebswirtschaftlichen Bereich sind insbesondere Fragen der Logistik, der Projekt- und Produktionsplanung mit der Anwendung von Modellen und Methoden der Optimierung und der Netzplantechnik verbunden, entscheidungstheoretische Ansatze haben wesent- liche Akzente in der Finanzierungs- und Investitionstheorie gesetzt, der Be- reich des Marketing erschlieBt sich zunehmend der Anwendung stochastischer und statistischer Methoden. Auf der anderen Seite hat auch die mathematische Okonomie ihrerseits in einigen mathematischen Forschungsrichtungen Im- pulse ausgelost. So befaBt sich die diskrete Mathematik mit Fragen der Gra- phentheorie und kombinatorischen Optimierung. In der numerischen Mathe- matik geht es u. a. urn Probleme der nichtlinearen und stochastischen Optimie- rung sowie der Kontrolltheorie und dynamischen Steuerung. Man kann feststellen, daB sich sowohl in der Mathematik als auch in den Wirtschaftswissenschaften sowie in ihrem Verhaltnis zueinander erhebliche Veranderungen vollzogen haben bzw. noch anstehen.

Facing rapidly growing challenges in empirical research, this volume presents a selection of new methods and approaches in the field of Exploratory Data Analysis. The interested reader will find numerous ideas and examples for cross disciplinary applications of classification and data analysis methods in fields such as data and web mining, medicine and biological sciences as well as marketing, finance and management sciences.

"Data Analysis" in the broadest sense is the general term for a field of activities of ever-increasing importance in a time called the information age. It covers new areas with such trendy labels as, e.g., data mining or web mining as well as traditional directions emphazising, e.g., classification or knowledge organization. Leading researchers in data analysis have contributed to this volume and delivered papers on aspects ranging from scientific modeling to practical application. They have devoted their latest contributions to a book edited to honor a colleague and friend, Hans-Hermann Bock, who has been active in this field for nearly thirty years.

International Federation of Classification Societies The International Federation of Classification Societies (IFCS) is an agency for the dissemination of technical and scientific information concerning classification and data analysis in the broad sense and in as wide a* range of applications as possible; founded in 1985 in Cambridge (UK) from the following Scientific Societies and Groups: British Classification Society -BCS; Classification Society of North America -CSNA; Gesellschaft fUr Klassifikation -GfKl; Japanese Classification Society -JCS; Classification Group of Italian Statistical Society - COSIS; Societe Francophone de Classification -SFC. Now the IFCS includes the following Societies: Dutch-Belgian Classification Society - VOC; Polish Classification Section - SKAD; Portuguese Classification Association - CLAD; Group-at-Large; Korean Classification Society -KCS. Biannual Meeting of the Classification and Data Analysis Group of SIS The biannual meeting of the Classification and Data Analysis Group of Societa Italiana di Statistica (SIS) was held in Pescara, July 3 -4, 1997. The 69 papers presented were divided in 17 sessions. Each session was organized by a chairperson with two invited speakers and two contributed papers from a call for papers. All the works were referred. Furthermore, during the meeting a discussant was provided for each session. A short version of the papers (4 pages) was.published before the conference.

In many fields of science and practice large amounts of data and informationare collected for analyzing and visualizing latent structures as orderings or classifications for example. This volume presents refereed and revised versions of 52 papers selected from the contributions of the 16th AnnualConference of the "German Classification Society." The papers are organized in three major sections on Data Analysis and Classification (1), InformationRetrieval, Knowledge Processing and Software (2), Applications and Special Topics (3). Moreover, the papers were grouped and ordered within the major sections. So, in the first section we find papers on Classification Methods, Fuzzy Classification, Multidimensional Scaling, Discriminant Analysis and Conceptual Analysis. The second section contains papers on Neural Networks and Computational Linguisticsin addition to the mentioned fields. An essential part of the third section attends to Sequence Data and Tree Reconstruction as well as Data Analysis and Informatics in Medicine. As special topics the volume presents applications in Thesauri, Archaeology, Musical Science and Psychometrics.

The 13th conference of the Gesellschaft fUr Klassifikation e. V. took place at the Universitat Augsburg from April 10 to 12, 1989, with the' local organization by the Lehrstuhl fUr Mathematische Me thoden der Wirtschaftswissenschaften. The wide ranged subject of the conference Conceptual and Numerical Analysis of Data was obliged to indicate the variety of the concepts of data and information as well as the manifold methods of analysing and structuring. Based on the received announcements of papers four sections have been arranged: 1. Data Analysis and Classification: Basic Concepts and Methods 2. Applications in Library Sciences, Documentation and Information Sciences 3. Applications in Economics and Social Sciences 4. Applications in Natural Sciences and Computer Sciences This classification doesn't separate strictly, but it shows that theo retic and applying researchers of most different disciplines were disposed to present a paper. In 60 survey and special lectures the speakers reported on developments in theory and applications en couraging the interdisciplinary dialogue of all participants. This volume contains 42 selected papers grouped according to the four sections. Now we give a short insight into the presented papers. x Several problems of concept analysis, cluster analysis, data analysis and multivariate statistics are considered in 18 pa pers of section 1. The geometric representation of a concept lattice is a collection of figures in the plane corresponding to the given concepts in such a way that the subconcept-superconcept-relation corresponds to the containment relation between the figures. The first of its kind, a seminar on Production Theory was held at the University of Karlsruhe during May and June 1973. Seven of the nineteen resource participants were from Canada, France, the Netherlands, Sweden and the U.S.A., to make the seminar an international symposium. The other par- ticipants involved a variety of experts from German univer- sities. Karlsruhe supplied the predominant part of the Ger- man contributors. For the discussions of the seminar twenty papers span- ning a large part of production theory were prepared and these papers are herewith published as a coherent collection under the title: KARLSRUHE SEMINAR ON PRODUCTION THEORY. Papers on scalar valued production functions are orga- nized in Part 1. Several of these provide new characteri- zations of CES productiop functions, partly in connection with technical progress, and two others are related to homothetic production functions. Six papers on multisectoral production models have been included in Parts 2 and 3, addressed in part to problems of dynamic structures, disaggregation and relaxation of simple homogeneity. Turning next to more general production models, Part 4 contains five papers involving set valued production func- tionsor production correspondences, dealing with such topics as efficient pOints, stochastic aspects, homogeneity, homo- theticity and the law of diminishing returns.

This volume presents 71 articles dealing with models and methods of data analysis and classification, statistics and stochastics, information systems and text analysis as well as manifold applications. These articles are se lected from about 160 papers presented at the 20th Annual Conference of the Gesellschaft fUr Klassifikation. This conference was organized by R. Klar, at the Abteilung fiir Medizinische Informatik of the University of Freiburg from March 6 to 8, 1996. Data Analysis and Classification This section presents ten articles dealing with different problems of data analysis and classification, especially with several aspects of multidimen sional scaling (MDS), three-way data analysis, stochastic aspects in cluster ing and regression of ordinal data. The survey article of M. W. Trosset considers an approach to define and classify MDS problems as optimization problems."

Das vorliegende Heft der Lecture Notes in Operations Research and Mathematical Systems ist der zweite Teil einer Darstellu g der Konsum- und Produktionstheorie Die Ausarbeitung wurde in Anlehnung an Vor- lesungen uber Mikrookonomische Theorie verfaBt. Der zweite Band enthalt die Produktionstheorie. Im Abschnitt 9 werden aus einleuchtenden Eigenschaften der Menge zulassiger Produktionsver- fahren notwendige und hinreichende Bedingungen fur die Existenz steti- ger Produktionsfunktionen hergeleitet. Der Abschnitt 10 entha t eine Charakterisierung von Substitu ionsgebieten mit Hilfe der Differenzier- barkeitseigenschaften von Produktionsfunktionen. Der folgende Abschnitt stellt den Zusammenhang der Produktionstheorie mit der Preistheorie her. Die neueren Ergebnisse uber die Theorie der homogenen Produktions- funktionen findet man in Arbeiten von W. EICHHORN: einige dieser Ergeb- nisse wurden in Abschnitt 12 aufgenommen. Die Produktionstheorie ist eng mit Optimierungsaufgaben verknupft. In den Abschnitten 13 bis 17 werden einige grundsatzliche Verfahren zusammengestellt. Insbesondere wird im Abschnitt 17 die dynamische Optimierung auf ein n-stufiges Produktionsproblem angewandt. Das Manuskript ist durch eine Anzahl von Beispielen und Ubungsaufgaben mit Losungen erganzt. Das vorliegende Heft der Lecture Notes in Operations Research and Ma thematical Systems ist der erste Teil einer zweibandigen Darstellung der Konsurn- und Produktionstheorie. In Anlehnung an Vorlesungen uber Mikrookonomische Theorie wurde die Ausarbeitung verfaBt. Der vorliegende erste Band enthalt die Konsurntheorie. Nach einer zusarn menfassenden Darstellung mathematischer Hilfsmittel folgen im ersten Ka pitel einige Bemerkungen tiber okonomische Modelle. Im AnschluB an die Definition einer Nutzenfunktion wird ein auf G. Debreu zurtickgehender Existenzsatz fur stetige Nutzenfunktionen formuliert und bewiesen. Fer ner laBt sich zeigen, daB eine vollstandige Praordnung nicht hinreicht, die Existenz von Nutzenfunktionen zu sichern. In Paragraph 3 werden Konvexitatseigenschaften von Nutzenfunktionen diskutiert. Der Para graph 4 ist der Berticksichtigung von Budget- und Einkornrnensbeschrankun gen des Konsurnenten gewidrnet; das Nutzenmaximierungsproblem laBt sich dann als nichtlineares Optimierungsproblem darstellen. Verfahren zur Maximierung stetiger Nutzenfunktionen auf kompakten Konsurnraurnen werden in Paragraph 5 behandelt. In Paragraph 6 sind Nachfrageprobleme des Kon surnenten unter Voraussetzung konstanter Guterpreise erortert. SchlieB lich wird in Paragraph 7 ein dynarnisches Haushaltsmodell angegeben: Wesentliche Aussagen der statischen Theorie erweisen sich als tibertrag bar.
