Due to the recent global pandemic, educators of science and technology have had to pivot and adapt their delivery to create alternative virtual means of delivery. The COVID-19 pandemic has influenced a rapid change in teaching and learning in higher education. It is reshaping curriculum demands, the 21st century digital competence challenges, and learning technologies. These changes in education are likely to endure well past the COVID-19 pandemic, making it crucial for educators to consider teaching and learning under the perspectives of digital education and innovation. Advancing STEM Education and Innovation in a Time of Distance Learning highlights the contemporary trends and challenges in science, technology, mathematics, and engineering education. The chapters present findings and discussions of relevant research studies and theoretical frameworks for the provision of science, technology, engineering, and technical subjects. It not only presents successful practice examples from before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, but also provides useful information to assist educators in understanding the demands and challenges of digital education. Covering topics such as ethnically diverse students, foreign language learning, and mobile gamification, this premier reference source is an essential resource for educators and administrators of both K-12 and higher education, pre-service teachers, teacher educators, librarians, government officials, researchers, and academicians.

Intersecting Health, Livability, and Human Behavior in Urban Environments (Hardcover): Roberto Alonso Gonzalez Lezcano Intersecting Health, Livability, and Human Behavior in Urban Environments (Hardcover)
Roberto Alonso Gonzalez Lezcano
R6,083 Discovery Miles 60 830 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The promotion of sustainable urban development and livable cities in the past three decades has effectively merged the themes of urban health, urban sustainability, and urban livability into an integrated research field. As more people are predicted to live in a relatively confined space, the balance between the physical/built environment, social environment, and urban dwellers becomes more delicate. Urban systems have evolved to be more complex than ever during this process. While complex systems often offer relative stability, delicate balance requires carefully designed plans and management to avoid collapse. It is, hence, of great interest and importance to know what future sustainable and livable cities look like. Intersecting Health, Livability, and Human Behavior in Urban Environments considers how to improve the quality of the environment and healthy living in contemporary and future urban environments. Covering key topics such as environmental health, smart cities, and urban health, this premier reference source is ideal for policymakers, government officials, scholars, researchers, academicians, instructors, and students.

Urban Sustainability and Energy Management of Cities for Improved Health and Well-Being (Hardcover): Roberto Alonso Gonzalez... Urban Sustainability and Energy Management of Cities for Improved Health and Well-Being (Hardcover)
Roberto Alonso Gonzalez Lezcano
R6,738 Discovery Miles 67 380 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Global environmental challenges such as climate change, rapid urbanization, and human influence on the environment continue to grow. Many of these resulting risks lead to diseases and negative impacts on health and quality of life. It is now essential to develop more sustainable and healthy environments with greater focus on prevention by targeting the root causes of disease. Urban communities comprise a high concentration of services, consumption, and waste and represent an unsustainable pattern of urbanization that accelerates the decline of global ecosystems services rather than supporting them through the compensatory contributions of peri-urban and rural areas. By focusing on reducing environmental and social risk factors, almost a quarter of the global burden of disease can be avoided through better health promotion strategies and improved prevention and hygiene measures. Urban Sustainability and Energy Management of Cities for Improved Health and Well-Being highlights the interdisciplinary connections between the environment and human health, focusing on new ideas and suggestions for promoting both sustainable development and human health and well-being. It creates a new approach to the analysis of human impacts on the natural environment and, conversely, determines how the environment can modulate human lifestyles and health. Furthermore, this book explores opportunities and challenges urban communities face as they seek to become sustainable systems embedded in their diverse and complex social and environmental contexts. Covering topics such as affordable housing, ecological waste materials, and urban health, this premier reference source is an essential resource for environmentalists, civil engineers, government officials, architects, libraries, students and educators of higher education, urban planners, researchers, and academicians.

Choreomata - Performance and Performativity after AI: Marek Poliks, Roberto Alonso Trillo Choreomata - Performance and Performativity after AI
Marek Poliks, Roberto Alonso Trillo
R1,462 Discovery Miles 14 620 Ships in 9 - 17 working days

Is AI becoming more and more expressive, or is human thought adopting more and more structures from computation? What does it mean to perform oneself through AI, or to construct one’s subjectivity through AI? How does AI continue to complicate what it means to have a body? Has the golden age of AI, especially with regards to creative applications, already ended? Choreomata is a book about performance and performativity, but more specifically it is a book about the performance of artificiality and the performance of intelligence. Both humans and human-designed computational forces are thoroughly engaged in an entangled, mutual performance of AI. Choreomata spins up a latticework of interdisciplinary thought, pairing theoretical inquiry from philosophy, information theory, and computer science with practical case studies from visual art, dance, music, and social theory. Through cross-disciplinary proportions and a diverse roster of contributors, this book contains insights for computer scientists, social scientists, industry professionals, artists, and beyond.

Death and (Re) Birth of J.S. Bach - Reconsidering Musical Authorship and the Work-Concept (Paperback): Roberto Alonso Trillo Death and (Re) Birth of J.S. Bach - Reconsidering Musical Authorship and the Work-Concept (Paperback)
Roberto Alonso Trillo
R794 Discovery Miles 7 940 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

While the study and redefinition of the notion of authorship and its relationship to the idea of the literary work have played a central role in recent research on literature, semiotics, and related disciplines, its impact on contemporary musicology is still limited. Why? What implications would a reconsideration of the author- and work-concepts have on our understanding of the creative musical processes? Why would such a re-examination of these regulative concepts be necessary? Could it emerge from a post-structuralist revision of the notion of musical textuality? In this book, Trillo takes the ...Bach... project, a collection of new music based on Johann Sebastian Bach's Partita No.1 for solo violin, BWV 1002, as a point of departure to sketch some critical answers to these fundamental questions, raise new ones, and explore their musicological implications.

The Earth Trembles - The Communications of Angelina Blanco (Paperback): Lynn M. Alonso The Earth Trembles - The Communications of Angelina Blanco (Paperback)
Lynn M. Alonso; Illustrated by Roberto Alonso; Roberto Alonso
R353 Discovery Miles 3 530 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This is the astonishing true story of the medium Angelina Blanco. Her extraordinary gift has opened the door to space where the spirit world dwells. Messages of love, peace, and the earth we live on come from the spiritual majors who wish to guide us to the next plane of our existence. In The Earth Trembles, the author and grandson, Roberto Alonso discusses the biography of Angelina Blanco. He tells of her homeland, Spain, and her immigration to Cuba. He describes how he first discovered what she could do and his acceptance of her gifts. Not only could she foretell events and communicate with the deceased but also their guides. The letters of dictation taking during the sessions tell of how human beings came to earth and the development of all things. As a witness, Roberto tells the story of those sessions he attended and how they changed his view of the blue marble called earth. He learned to trust what she said and did. She was instrumental in saving his family from the tyranny of Fidel Castro. Roberto Alonso was employed in the aerospace field for fifteen years. The major part of both the research and the writing itself was done while employed in this field. Even when he became ill, work on this book was never neglected. Roberto gives much of the credit for the successful execution of this immense project to the huge collection of all the letters that had been dictated in Spanish by Angelina's daughter, Iris Alonso from which he translated to English.
