Why do conceptions of 'learning' vary so much in L2 learning
research? Is there a conceptualisation of 'learning' to which
members of different schools of SLA can subscribe? These questions
and more are answered in this book by world-leading researchers in
the field.
An exciting new collection by world-leading researchers in L2
learning addressing: Why do conceptions of 'learning' vary so much
in L2 learning research? Is there a conceptualisation of 'learning'
to which members of different schools of SLA can subscribe?
When a patient is diagnosed with a gynecological malignancy, she
and her doctors must make urgent, high-risk decisions about her
course of treatment. In selecting an appropriate plan of care,
physicians must weigh the patient's individual needs, the tumor's
specific characteristics, and the treatment's potential side
effects. Because there is no one-size-fits-all treatment solution,
a plethora of clinical trials have been performed on ovarian cancer
patients, but clinicians may struggle to keep up with this
ever-growing body of research. Collecting and synthesizing research
findings from a wide array of medical journal articles and book
chapters, Clinical Trials in Ovarian Cancer provides physicians
with an invaluable resource. Gynecologic oncologist Christine S.
Walsh systematically outlines each of the seminal Phase III trials
that have shaped the treatment of ovarian cancers, detailing the
rationale for the trial, the patient population studied, treatment
delivery methods, efficacy, toxicity, and trial conclusions. She
provides a clear overview of established treatments, as well as
still-controversial experimental approaches. The first book to
organize this cutting-edge research into an easy-to-use reference,
Clinical Trials in Ovarian Cancer should help medical personnel at
all levels provide their patients with the highest standard of
care.
Due to a high incidence of anemia, critically ill patients are
frequently transfused, with up to 40% of patients receiving a
transfusion during their stay in the Intensive Care Unit. It has
become increasingly clear that there is an association between
transfusion and adverse outcomes, underlining the need for a
careful assessment of the risks and benefits of a blood
transfusion. In the last decade, there have been several large
clinical trials that have studied red blood cell transfusion
triggers in various ICU patient populations, allowing us to take a
personalized approach to transfusion. Moreover, ICU patients often
suffer from coagulopathy. Recent studies have addressed the
effectiveness of fresh frozen plasma and platelets to prevent or
treat bleeding. Aiming at a personalized therapy approach in
transfusion practice, this book is the first to offer a
comprehensive summary of transfusion triggers for red blood cells
in specific ICU patient populations and specific conditions. In
addition, it discusses evidence for triggers for plasma and
platelets and outlines the most common adverse effects of
transfusion in the ICU. Transfusion in the Intensive Care Unit is a
practical handbook that can be used in everyday practice to guide
transfusion and thus will serve as a valuable resource for
physicians, fellows and residents working in Intensive Care,
Anesthesiology and Cardiac Surgery.
Schadensbegrenzung infolge personalpolitischen Missmanagements
begriffen werden. Es sind nur Schutzbehauptungen, wenn Vorgesetzte
vom allmahlichen Auseinanderdriften von Mitarbeiter- und
Anforderungsprofil wie von einem geradezu naturwuchsigen Prozess
sprechen.
also.
This book explores the issues and provides a comprehensive overview
of the evolution of business failure research that has surrounded
the subject over the years within the entrepreneurship literature.
This literature review is organized as follows: Section 2 discusses
the lack of a universally accepted definition of business failure,
the difficulties that arise from this, and the way in which this
has directly contributed to the limitations of quantitative
studies. Furthermore the range of definitions employed by various
studies within the literature is examined in addition to the
diverse methodological approaches. Section 3 charts the emergence
of failure studies in the business literature, from their roots in
financially driven bankruptcy prediction models to the more
encompassing organizational decline models. The review also
explores competing perspectives of business failure - deterministic
and voluntaristic. These two distinct schools of thought raise
compelling, albeit reductionist arguments in their exploration of
the drivers of business failure. Section 4 provides a review of the
extant literature on business failure in the entrepreneurship
field. The focus is on the areas of enquiry that have dominated
literature in the area. The section examines the body of knowledge
on causes of, learning from, and psychological effect of failure in
the context of entrepreneurship. Additionally the literature
pertaining to emotions and failure as well as recovery from failure
are discussed and popular theories that accompany these subjects
are considered. This section culminates in an overview of the
methodological approaches that are more commonly seen in the recent
literature and then discusses the way in which these approaches
compare to previous research methods. The latter part of the review
is comprised of Section 5 where an overview of the limitations of
current approaches to the study of business failure is presented;
particular focus is given to the issues that arise from
retrospective biases. Finally, Section 6 explores the future of the
research topic within the entrepreneurship literature. The review
concludes with a summary of the key arguments presented and an
iteration of the importance, for both theory and practice, of
sustaining and advancing business failure research.
