Get in Gear: The Seven Gears that Drive Strategy to Results
(978-0-367-47149-1, 335422) Shelving Guide: Business and
Management/Leadership/Strategy Only 10% to 25% of organizations get
it right when it comes to achieving the expected results from their
strategic planning. This means 75% to 90% of them are leaving
results on the table and wasting their time on things that don't
matter. Almost a decade ago, a major steel manufacturer approached
Sean Ryan and his team to help them think through how to better
convert strategy to results. This was the catalyst for the seven
gears that translate strategy to results found in
Strategy-Execution-Results (SXR (TM)). Why Gears? Gears transmit
energy. The more aligned they are and the less friction in their
chain, the better they function. Leaders can easily identify the
gear creating the most friction and then take action to better
align that gear with the strategy generating better results. This
creates momentum to improve the alignment and performance of other
gears. This approach also emphasizes the ways everyone in the
organization has some influence over every gear. Based on Sean
Ryan's consulting and training with organizations from start-ups to
the Fortune 100, he's found that these performance gears drive
better results. You'll employ them to align your goals with your
strategy, create visible scorecards to know whether or not you're
on track, and identify the critical behaviors and actions that will
drive performance. Readers will use this book to point their
efforts toward getting meaningful results from their strategy. As
noted in the Harvard Business Review: "The prize for closing the
strategy-performance gap is huge: increasing performance by at
least 50% for most organizations." After moving beyond their
initial amazement of just how misaligned they were, they'll be able
to quickly apply the seven gears to sell better and more, drive
down costs, improve quality and safety, and recruit talent for the
future. In addition, there's nothing in this book that has not been
applied in actual business settings. While companies could use the
SXR (TM) Framework to overhaul their organization top to bottom,
they'll also appreciate that they don't have to change everything
at once to make progress. Upon understanding each of the gears and
how to create Follow-up and Follow-through, they'll be able to
improve any gear to start seeing strategic outcomes. You've got it

Deciding what user impacts are natural or unnatural has inspired
much debate. Biophysically, moose cause similar kinds of soil and
vegetation impacts as hikers. Yet moose are the sign of nature
while hikers are the sign of damage. The field of outdoor
recreation is beset with paradoxes, and this book presents a
unique, alternative framework to address these dilemmas. Examining
outdoor recreation through the lens of ecological theory, Ryan
draws from theorists such as Foucault, Derrida and Latour. The book
explores minimum impact strategies designed to protect and enhance
ecological integrity, but that also require a disturbing amount of
policing of users, which runs counter to the freedom users seek.
Recent ecological theory suggests that outdoor recreation's view of
nature as balanced when impacts are removed is outdated and
incorrect. What is needed, and indeed Ryan presents, is a
paradoxical and ecological view of humans as neither natural nor
unnatural, a view that embraces some traces in nature.
"Red Snow" is a fast paced action adventure involving a former
Army Special Forces officer turned CIA agent. His journey takes him
all over the world as he fights rogue Russian SPETSNAZ forces in
Afghanistan and later in the USA. His quest brings him in contact
with fierce mujahidin warriors in their search for independence and
at the same time, Jeremy Grant (our hero), relives the horrors of
war in Vietnam. His mission continues after his CIA retirement due
to severe injuries suffered in Afghanistan. His many treks take him
throughout Afghanistan, Pakistan, Germany, France, Russia, and
eventually back to San Francisco and his new job with the United
States Customs Service.
His new job, as the Chief of Intelligence for the law enforcement
division, leads him to a new conflict with his old arch-nemesis
Oleg V. Kolkov, formerly of Afghanistan and now a major participant
in Russian Organized Crime (ROC) in California. Continually
betrayed and followed by his enemies throughout his travels, Jeremy
must use his training and experience to defeat them. This exciting
and sometimes romantic adventure will remind you of land based
"Hunt for Red October."
About the Author:
Sean Ryan Stuart is a southern boy by birth and heritage, however
as the only son of a professional military man he traveled
extensively throughout the world. His personal military experience
includes six years in the Air Force and seventeen in the US Army as
a counterintelligence special agent. Addition-ally, he worked with
various local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in his
varied career. This association with civilian law enforcement
extended up to and included his last seven years in the
military.
Mr. Stuart has had extensive training in the field of security,
investigations, narcotics, counter-terrorism and linguistics. He is
fluent in five languages and has also been used as a technical
advisor in Hollywood. Mr. Stuart is currently living in California
and is teaching specialized subjects. He is also the author of
dozens of articles on Russian Organized Crime and other related
subjects. His recently published book "'Das Haus' The House and the
Son of the Rabbi" has been adapted into a screenplay and is
currently being developed into a movie.
"Das Haus," (The House) is a story spanning almost seventy
years, and is partially based on TRUE EVENTS as told to the author
by our hero Erik Goldmann (Fictitious name) and the author's
father-in-law. At the request of Erik, many of the characters and
locations were changed to protect the survivors of that long ago
Holocaust known as World War II. It has become a NOVEL partially
based on some true events.
The setting is modern day, with flashbacks to WWII Germany. This
book recounts the story of an American journalist's attempt to
investigate the resurgence of Fascism throughout the world, and
especially in Germany. It is actually two books in one. The story
switches back and forth from modern day to WWII. It shows how
Fascism is still alive and well in Germany, Europe and even in the
USA. It connects a modern day investigation, to the horrors of the
past. Direct experiences by the author are incorporated into the
novel, and make for an exciting personal adventure by our
characters. Although many of the characters are real, it had to be
written as a novel based on some true events.
It is the amazing adventure of two young Jewish-German children
growing up in an idyllic small village near the Belgium frontier.
Their lives suddenly and forever changed by the "Night of the
Crystal" and their detention in Buchenwald concentration camp. His
eventual release and escape to America. How a brave young man,
Erik, was given another chance to redeem himself by joining the
American Army on December 8th, 1941. His amazing true adventure of
fighting in North Africa, Sicily, Italy; landing at Normandy and
fighting all the way across France, Belgium and surviving the
"Battle of the Bulge."
On February 25th, 1945 he was given command of an Army infantry
unit, and allowed to liberate his own village six years after his
deportation. The incredible circle of life was rejoined and
completed. Unfortunately he was the only Jewish survivor of his
village.
The spiritual quest for his family, and the rest of the Jews of
Niedergeyer (Fictitious) eventually leads him to a meeting with the
American journalist researching modern day Fascism. It is an
exciting journey into hell and back again. A mixture of
"Schindler's List" and "Saving Private Ryan."
Sean Ryan Valinoti redefines poetry with this collection.
"Stillborn Dreams" will permanently change the way you think about
creative writing and American poetry. Everyone from the classic
American poet T.S. Eliot to the punk poet master Jim Carroll has
influenced his work. Yet, Valinoti's writing stands on its own.
