QUEEN GIVEN THE MARVEL COMICS TREATMENT! Former Marvel Comics
editor and writer Tim Quinn has created a unique Platinum Jubilee
souvenir with a brand new comic book telling the life story of
Queen Elizabeth II. Quinn has used his colleagues from the
publishing giant to illustrate the book. "As I researched the
Queen's life story, I was struck by how visual the tale was," says
Quinn. "It proved to be a perfect story to approach in exactly the
same way we produced the super-hero titles at Marvel Comics." The
book captures the Queen's story from childhood to the present day.
It has been put together to raise funds for the Merseyside
children's charity Liverpool Heartbeat who create literacy projects
for schools. "There's nothing quite like the Marvel method of
storytelling to capture the imagination of even the most ardent
non-reader," says Quinn. "The combination of the Marvel approach
and the Queen's amazing story has proved to be a visual treat." The
book was presented to the Queen at Windsor Castle and received a
very positive response which is featured in this new printing.
"ARGH!!" was the first word Tim Quinn uttered on arrival on this
planet back in 1953. The way things are going he believes it is
likely to be the last word he utters too. He certainly manages to
cram a lot in between birth and death. As he explains, "Life is all
downhill after the age of....two." While still in his crib, the
world of comic books enters his life as his elder brother's copy of
the 'Beano' causes a house fire leaving tiny Tim trapped in a
smoke-filled room. Even earlier than that we hear how he was born
striped due to his mother's wartime diet of powdered eggs causing
her to nickname him 'Tiger Tim' after her favourite comic book
character. Education under the iron fist of the Irish Christian
Brothers leaves Quinn with a diploma for playing truant. They
insist on him entering either the banking or holy clerical
professions. Instead, at age sixteen, he runs away to become a
clown in Blackpool Tower Circus. And so begins a life in what he
describes as the world of synchronicity. "I always seemed to meet
the right people at exactly the right time." One job leads to
another as we follow Tim's hilarious life of ups and downs across
the multiverse of circus, theatre, BBC television, comic books,
newspapers, magazines, books, documentaries and music. Celebrities
abound round every corner from Beatles to Stan Lee, and the Pope to
Hugh Hefner. Fully illustrated with Tim's own personal
behind-the-scenes photos and memorabilia.
Marvel Comics ‘wacky writing and drawing team’ of Tim Quinn
& Dicky Howett turn their cartooning eye on that most
eXtraordinary of subjects, the super hero team. Where to begin the
story of the Fantastic 400? They are truly the stuff of legends.
They have been killed off and returned to life more times than any
other super hero team. They have appeared on more underpants and
socks than any other comic book characters. You’ve seen the
movies, the TV series and the musicals. You’ve probably even
brushed your teeth with ‘Fantastic 400’ toothpaste. But where
did it all start? That’s a good question and the answer lies
inside this book, so step inside and prepare to meet Aqua-Lung,
Tall Man, Captain Chelmsford, Cyborg Cyd, The Green Thingy,
Asparagus Jones, Jet Lagg, Yak Man, Blue Herbert, Super Ape, Frost
Bite, Captain Carb and hundreds more in the wackiest super-hero
adventures of all time.
This book is a guide for all who are aspiring to the school
superintendency, including current superintendents anticipating
their next move. Operating procedures and ground rules are included
for this most unique search process. If a candidate doesn't
understand the "unwritten" rules of the game, it is very difficult
to be successful. This book also provides guidance for success in
that most critical first year on the job. School boards needing to
navigate a superintendent search process will also find this
information valuable.
The underlying reason for most school superintendent turnover is a
breakdown in the board-superintendent relationship. This book
presents a comprehensive set of practical strategies and structures
that will help ensure effective governance team practices become a
permanent way of doing business in the school district. While it is
written primarily for K-12 school superintendents, it is also a
must-read for anyone aspiring to the role, members of a
superintendent's leadership team, and school board members
interesting in creating a governance team that works at optimal
level for the benefit of all children.
