Craig Reedie came from a love of badminton. His efforts for his
sport included the building of its own six-court hall and official
offices. For the International Federation, he resolved major
political issues and worked for the inclusion of the sport in the
Olympic Program. For the BOA, he helped a change in the structure
of British sport and the organization of bids to host the Olympic
Games. Seven years of organization led to the successful 2012
London Games. A member of the IOC since 1994, he became president
of WADA, facing the Russian doping issues.
In this introduction to the subject, the author argues that the
contradictions within socialism arise from the absence of a single
socialist tradition - despite Marxist attempts to claim the title
of the "true" socialism. Rather than seeking to reconcile socialist
differences in an all-embracing unity, it is important to recognize
the diversity of socialism. Disagreement and tensions within the
socialist movement can then be accepted as the subject matter of
different kinds of socialism, each of which may be more or less
plausible, appropriate, or desirable. The volume develops this
theme through an analysis of socialist ideas and movements,
revealing how socialists have differed fundamentally about both the
nature of socialism and the means of its achievement.

"Theolegal democracy defines a political system that allows public
officials to use theology in its democratic process to shape law
without instituting an official state religion. In Whose God
Rules?, preeminent scholars debate the theolegal theory, which
describes the gray area between a secular legal system, where
theology is dismissed as irrational and a threat to the separation
of religion and state, and a theocracy, where a single religion
determines all law. The United States is neither a secular nation
nor a theocracy, leading scholars to ask whether the United States
is a theolegal democracy. If so, whose God rules?"--
The impacts of climate change are already being observed in a
variety of sectors and there is greater clarity that these changes
are being caused by human activities, mainly through release of
greenhouse gases. In 2005 the UK Government hosted the Avoiding
Dangerous Climate Change conference to take an in-depth look at the
scientific issues associated with climate change. This volume
presents the most recent findings from the leading international
scientists that attended the conference. The topics addressed
include critical thresholds and key vulnerabilities of the climate
system, impacts on human and natural systems, socioeconomic costs
and benefits of emissions pathways, and technological options for
meeting different stabilisation levels of greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere. The volume provides invaluable information for
researchers in environmental science, climatology, and atmospheric
chemistry, policy-makers in governments and environmental
organizations, and scientists and engineers in industry.
This book demonstrates that the United States, whether we like it
or not, is a theolegal nation - a democracy that simultaneously
guarantees citizens the right to free expression of belief while
preventing the establishment of a state religion.
Intellectual juggernaut and staunch atheist Christopher Hitchens
goes head-to-head with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair,
one of the Western world's most openly devout political leaders, on
the highly charged topic of religion. Few world leaders have had a
greater hand in shaping current events than Blair; few writers have
been more outspoken and polarizing than Hitchens. In this edition
of The Munk Debates -- Canada's premier international debate series
-- Hitchens and Blair square off on the contentious questions that
continue to dog the topic of religion in our globalized world: How
does faith influence our actions? What is the role of people of
faith in the public sphere? Is religious doctrine rigid, or should
we allow for flexibility in our interpretations? This exclusive
debate, which played out to a sold-out audience, is now available
in print form, along with candid interviews with Hitchens and
Blair. Sharp, provocative, and thoroughly engrossing, Hitchens vs.
Blair is a rigorous and electrifying intellectual sparring match on
the oldest question: Is religion a force for good in the world?
Every day, people around the world make financial decisions. They
choose to invest in a stock, sell their holdings in a mutual fund
or buy a condominium. These decisions are complex and financially
tricky-even for financial professionals. But the literature
available on financial research is dated and narrowly focused
without any real practical application. Until now there's been a
gap in the literature: a book that shows you how to conduct a step
by step comprehensive financial investigation that ends in a
decision. This book gives you that how. Investing in Financial
Research is a guidebook for conducting financial investigations and
lays out Cheryl Strauss Einhorn's AREA Method-a research and
decision-making system that uniquely controls for bias, focuses on
the incentives of others and expands knowledge while improving
judgement-and applies it to investigating financial situations.
AREA is applicable to all sorts of financial sleuthing, whether for
investment analysis or investigative journalism. It allows you to
be the expert in your own life. The AREA Method provides you with:
*Defined tasks that guide and focus your research on your vision of
success; *A structure that isolates your sources, giving you
insight into their perspectives, biases and incentives;
*Investigative resources, tips and techniques to upgrade your
research and analysis beyond document-based sources; *Exercises to
foster creativity and originality in your thinking; *A sequence and
framework that brings your disparate pieces of research together to
build your confidence and conviction about your financial decision.

In this remarkably gripping memoir, one of the most dynamic and
controversial leaders of modern times gives us a firsthand account
of his years in office and beyond.
Here, for the first time, Tony Blair recounts his role in shaping
our recent history, from the aftermath of Princess Diana's death to
the war on terror. With rare honesty and courage, he recounts the
belief in ethical intervention that led to his decision to go to
war in Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, and, most controversial
of all, Iraq.
Filled with fascinating revelations about Blair's close friendship
with the Clinton family, his admiration for George W. Bush, and his
relationship with Barack Obama, A Journey is a must-read political
memoir, providing an unprecedented glimpse into Tony Blair's
experiences as Prime Minister, through his own eyes.
In his expansive new introduction, Tony Blair discusses his vision
of a future based on open-mindedness, yet fully couched in the
complex realities of our times.

New Britain presents Tony Blair on all the major debates of British
public life: from nationalized health care to crime prevention,
from the welfare state to monetary policy, from religion to family
values, from individualism to isolationism, from taxation to trade
unions, from NATO to Northern Ireland, from community rebirth to
economic growth. After seventeen years of Conservative Party rule
under Margaret Thatcher and John Major, a change in Great Britain's
leadership appears imminent. In Blair's Stakeholder Nation,
government works in partnership with private and voluntary sectors
to harness the pawer of the market to serve the public interest. In
New Britain, we read in Blair's own articulate words how to improve
the standard of living of all Britain's families; how to base a new
social order on merit, commitment, and inclusion; how to
decentralize British institutions of political power; and how to
expand Britain's leadership in foreign affairs.
