The festschrift for Helmut Koopmann assembles contributions from renowned friends and colleagues reflecting the wide range of interests pursued by its dedicatee. The volume opens with a homage in the narrower sense, in the form of literary texts by present-day authors. There then follow articles centering on six of Koopmann's major interests in the field of literary studies: the theory and practice of scholarly editing, Classicism, Romanticism, Heinrich and Thomas Mann, exile and inner emigration, and 20th century poetics. This broad spectrum of epochs and authors, topics and methodologies is an in nuce reflection of some of the central present-day concerns in the field of (German) literary studies. The volume closes with a bibliography of Helmut Koopmann's publications.

Aurora, das Jahrbuch der Eichendorff-Gesellschaft erschien als Fortsetzung des Almanachs Aurora (1929 1943) nach dem Kriege erstmals wieder 1953. Seitdem ist das Jahrbuch durch eine zunehmende Offnung gegenuber dem kulturgeschichtlichen Umfeld von Eichendorffs Leben und Werk und seinen umfangreichen Rezensionsteil zu einem der fuhrenden Publikationsorte und Referateorgane zur klassisch-romantischen Zeit geworden. In opposition to the widely-held view that the formal idiom of Eichendorff's poetic oeuvre can be justly described as "time-less," the present study undertakes a chronological reading of Eichendorff's poetry. The advantage of this approach is that it foregrounds the dynamic nature of Eichendorff's writing and reveals the constitution of his ideas and imagery as an ongoing process.

Narrative des Ich und des Selbst sind fur die burgerliche Kultur konstitutiv. Dieser Band beleuchtet, wie das Ich seit Rimbauds Fanal "Je est un autre" destruiert wurde. Nietzsches "Tod Gottes" entthronte das Ich. Ernst Mach erklarte es fur "unrettbar", da er es auf seine einzelnen Elemente zuruckfuhrte, wahrend Freud das Ich schliesslich nach seinen Funktionen im psychischen Apparat zerlegte. Mit der Ich-Aufloesung vollzog sich eine fundamentale metaphysische Krise. Die Beitrage zeigen, wie sich diese Aufloesung als Katalysator fur eine dynamisierte Modernisierung der Kunste erwies. Denn paradoxerweise steht die Destruktion des Ich fur eine neue, autonome Subjektkonstitution in der Literatur des 20. Jahrhunderts.
