In opposition to the widely-held view that the formal idiom of
Eichendorff's poetic oeuvre can be justly described as "time-less,"
the present study undertakes a chronological reading of
Eichendorff's poetry. The advantage of this approach is that it
foregrounds the dynamic nature of Eichendorff's writing and reveals
the constitution of his ideas and imagery as an ongoing process.
