Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.

This is a thorough presentation of the most common skin diseases of
children. Each chapter gives the differential diagnostic
possibilities in a table. Treatment is shown in considerable
detail, reflecting the current literature as well as clinical
experience. The scientific names of all recommended medications are
given so that the book can be used by readers around the globe.
Tips are included for the treating physician on how to best tailor
the various therapy regimens and anticipate the course of the
disease. Recent advances in dermatologic therapy are included. The
appendix contains detailed practical information.
Microdialysis is currently one of the most important in vivo
sampling methods in physiology and pharmacology. It is used to
determine the chemical components of the fluid in the extracellular
space of tissues. The technique is now well established in
neuroscience research and is used excessively in behavioral
neuroscience to determine the concentrations and identities of
molecules in brain tissues, and their change due to behavior,
hormonal and transmitter changes in the nervous system. The book
provides a detailed comprehensive overview of the technology and
its applications, including application in pathology, drug
development, and the application in the clinic. The authors are all
well known researchers in Neuroscience and experts in the use of
Microdialysis.
Organized into two parts of seven sections, the Handbook of
Microdialysis critically examines recent developments in the field
through a variety of chapters written by an internationally
acclaimed group of authors. It is the first comprehensive handbook
covering the technology of Microdialysis and its applications in
Neuroscience.
* Presents microdialysis methods and interpretation including the
technical aspects of microdialysis as a sampling technique followed
by the analytical chemical methods
* Discusses the role of microdialysis in pharmacology, drug
development and models of CNS
pathology
* Includes clinical applications of microdialysis
Advances in the Psychology of Justice and Affect presents a
collection of chapters written by leading scholars attempting to
illuminate the developing trends in explaining and understanding
the role that affect plays in justice and vice versa. The book
comes at a particular fitting time as it is recognized that justice
is in the eye of the beholder, but, unfortunately clear theoretical
perspectives have not been clearly outlined yet. This book
addresses this need by presenting a variety of perspectives
advocating the further integration between both fields and how this
may be achieved. Moreover, the book also provides a discussion of
what we know as yet and where this integrative field should be
going. The book is divided in three parts discussing the nature of
justice and affect, justice, morality and affect, and justice and
affect at work. The market for this book is students, researchers
in social psychology, organizational behavior and management,
behavioral economics, philosophy, and other related social sciences
fields. Graduate students and upper level undergraduates can make
use of the book as a supplementary text.
In this thesis, Till Cremer investigates the bulk properties of
ionic liquids (IL), the IL/vacuum interface and the IL/solid
interface. For these studies the author primarily uses
angle-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy under ultrahigh
vacuum conditions. ILs represent a class of materials with unique
physico-chemical properties. Many applications take advantage of
the extremely low vapor pressure of aprotic ILs to fabricate
permanent, non-volatile liquid coatings on solid materials. The
author focuses on issues related to thin IL coatings, in particular
concerning new catalytic concepts such as the supported ionic
liquid phase (SILP) and solid catalyst with ionic liquid layer
(SCILL) systems. Till Cremer presents a number of fundamental
contributions to the new field of "Ionic Liquid Surface and
Interface Science". Highlights are his results concerning
anion/cation-interactions and the growth of ultrathin layers of
ionic liquids on various substrates in the context of supported
ionic liquid catalysis. His results have significantly contributed
to the present level of understanding in the field and accordingly
he is author and coauthor of ten publications on the topic in
high-ranked journals.
Everybody in business is involved in negotiating internally and
externally. The impact of this can have consequences for revenue
and profitability, so it is more important than ever to be an
effective negotiator for business success. In Making Negotiations
Predictable, two global experts give crucial insights into getting
it right.
Structure-Borne Sound" is a thorough introduction to structural
vibrations with emphasis on audio frequencies and the associated
radiation of sound. The book presents in-depth discussions of
fundamental principles and basic problems, in order to enable the
reader to understand and solve his own problems. It includes
chapters dealing with measurement and generation of vibrations and
sound, various types of structural wave motion, structural damping
and its effects, impedances and vibration responses of the
important types of structures, as well as with attenuation of
vibrations, and sound radiation from structures. For the third
edition, the author fundamentally revised and newly organized the
contents of the work. Nevertheless, the intention has been to
preserve the style of the previous editions, namely to focus on the
fundamentals enabling the reader to analyse further problems.
This book presents methods for estimating optical flow and scene
flow motion with high accuracy, focusing on the practical
application of these methods in camera-based driver assistance
systems. Clearly and logically structured, the book builds from
basic themes to more advanced concepts, culminating in the
development of a novel, accurate and robust optic flow method.
Features: reviews the major advances in motion estimation and
motion analysis, and the latest progress of dense optical flow
algorithms; investigates the use of residual images for optical
flow; examines methods for deriving motion from stereo image
sequences; analyses the error characteristics for motion variables,
and derives scene flow metrics for movement likelihood and
velocity; introduces a framework for scene flow-based moving object
detection and segmentation; includes Appendices on data terms and
quadratic optimization, and scene flow implementation using
Euler-Lagrange equations, in addition to a helpful Glossary.
Is there a chance that public or private research and
development institutions can improve the efficiency of the R&D
process? This book gives a positive answer by designing an
integrated concept of the science technology cycle and the
innovation system of each technology. The position of a new
technology in the sciencetechnology cycle is identified by several
indicators from patent analysis, citations and market information
data. The innovation system supports the search for a comprehensive
understanding of all important stakeholders of an innovation,
possible obstacles and related policies. The application of the
methodology leads to convincing results: the hype of the PEM fuel
cell activities could have been identified at the end of the 1990s
as the phase of euphoria, but not as a situation close to market
entry in the car or boiler markets.
"Security and Privacy in Social Networks" brings to the forefront
innovative approaches for analyzing and enhancing the security and
privacy dimensions in online social networks, and is the first
comprehensive attempt dedicated entirely to this field. In order to
facilitate the transition of such methods from theory to mechanisms
designed and deployed in existing online social networking
services, the book aspires to create a common language between the
researchers and practitioners of this new area- spanning from the
theory of computational social sciences to conventional security
and network engineering.
