This book presents topical research in the study of business and
management techniques from across the globe. Topics discussed
include data mining and business decision-making; third age
entrepreneurship and successful ageing; decision usefulness of
insurance accounting according to IASB exposure draft insurance
contracts; globalisation of financial reporting standards;
professional responsibility in a pluralist society; the role of
business intelligence in decision-making and behavioural
accounting.
Volume 17 first aims to analyse the three most significant
dimensions of the current technological development of the economy
and society: analytics, intelligence, and ethics. Next, this
collection introduces the concept of digital disruption, and puts
forward the application of new technologies as a valuable asset in
the current business landscape. The authors go on to demonstrate
that consumer electronic contracts are better protected than
in-person contracts, as the European legislation has created
certain mechanisms in order to promote electronic contracting,
among which are: the duties of information, the right of withdrawal
and online arbitration. One study identifies useful information
through data mining in an effort to better understand consumer
claims about products and services, mainly complaints about the
companies that are evaluated. The penultimate chapter discusses
in-memory business intelligence, as well as the modeling of
business analysis questions. Lastly, the dynamic processes of the
foreign equity price and the foreign exchange rate are depicted by
identifying a Markov-modulated multi-currency market model
capturing both individual jumps and systematic cojumps.
The opening chapter of Advances in Business and Management. Volume
16 studies the determinants of the unemployment duration for
university graduates in Spain. The results of these studies showed
that the duration of unemployment was significantly associated with
the graduate's age, participation in internship programs, field of
study, type of university, and gender. Next, the authors utilize
the empirically validated assumptions of two contemporary theories
on team motivation (social identity theory and the theory on joint
production motivation) to provide an organizational behaviour
perspective to the jettisoning of Japanese management philosophy.
This compilation also analyzes the political struggle that took
place during 1994-1995 in Israel's Histadrut (General Federation of
Labor) under the leadership of Haim Ramon that eventually caused
goal transformation within the union. The study in the following
chapter aims to identify the impact of social media on the people
of Bangladesh as consumers. The authors go on to focus on recent
changes in business communication in the past two decades from a
sociolinguistics point of view. Later, it is proposed that given
the exponential increase of internet users, it is important to
study how enterprises have been working and innovating their online
communication tools, as well understand how they can improve the
communication through these online channel, in order to cover
increasing competition in the different business areas.
Additionally, this collection demonstrates that there are
significant differences in manners of communication that appear to
be a very important factor in making some organizations more
successful than others. The concluding chapter suggests a
combination of a single cost-plus transfer price and the pragmatic
process of negotiation assuming non-linear net average revenue
curves.
Advances in Business and Management. Volume 15 begins by presenting
a paper examining the depth and range of psychological stressors
and strains that entrepreneurs encounter in their new ventures,
aiming to further clarify the confusion and inconsistencies of
being self-employed. The following study was conducted in order to
analyze the impacts of IT on e-business adoption and to understand
the effects of quality IT strategies in e-business performance.
Focusing on Chinese users through an online survey, the measurement
instrument of this research model was developed from various
studies. The authors go on to discuss brand management and the way
in which it attempts to tap into collective meanings, associating
life-world categories of thought and emotion. A seduction takes
place whereby a captured emotional involvement with advertisements
confuses the imaginary with perception and circumvents rational
thought prior to purchaseall likely to evolve in directions
anticipated by the market specialists. One paper shows that the
manner an organisation approaches strategic planning is
significant. A case study rooted in stewardship, service and divine
endowments develops theoretical findings drawing from biblical
strategy and blends these with contemporary strategic human
resource management. Social impact assessment (SIA) has become a
recent concept of interest within the business and public domains,
soliciting further study by academics. SIA is an interdisciplinary
social science that incorporates various fields and is regarded as
a technique for predicting social impacts as part of an
environmental impact assessment (EIA) or as a stand-alone process.
This book contributes to the knowledge base of SIA and its
relationship with b-corporations and integrated reporting,
providing insights between these two fields of research. The
penultimate current chapter embraces a topic which is still
underdeveloped in the literature: how corporate social
responsibility may or may not influence brand equity. Therefore,
the authors conducted a literature review to analyse past studies
on this topic, focusing on four major aspects. Today every customer
is digital customer, and every enterprise is digital enterprise. It
is proposed that the significantly changing business environment
requires enterprises to rapidly change their structures, processes
and systems in order to save their customers and to remain
competitive and compliant to the requirements of the modern digital
economy.

components making up a firm. Chapter Two examines the possible
two-way link between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and
earnings management (EM) corporate strategies, and whether there
are any corporate governance differences at the international level
in this respect. Chapter Three analyzes design management (DM),
design concepts and design thinking (DT) for promoting socially
responsible solutions. The chapter provides a deeper understanding
of DT, ascertains its meaning and characteristics, determines gaps
among different DM approaches, design concepts and DT in the
context of social responsibility and reveals why and how DT helps
us to deal with complex problems regarding social responsibility.

working conditions for their employees. Using results from a 2016
NPR/Robert Wood Johnson Foundation/Harvard T.H. Chan School of
Public Health survey of 1601 workers nationwide in the U.S., the
chapter represents one of the broadest examinations of how workers
see health in their workplace experiences. Chapter Five examines
the challenges and opportunities in public-private partnerships
(PPP) for housing the low-income urban residents in Nigeria. The
chapter relies on a systematic review of research literature and
empirical data derived from oral interviews with 27 experts in nine
PPP housing projects in Nigeria to achieve its goal. Chapter six
deals with an analysis of standards for usury thresholds in Italy.
The authors work consists of a close examination on Italian
Legislative Decree 70/11 that has modified the aforementioned
standards. Chapter Seven discusses the influence of the accounting
value of conservatism, proposed by Gray (1988) as part of the
cultural relevance theory. The possession of derivative financial
instruments (DFI) was used as proxy to define it. This chapter
concludes the book by assessing the existence of the explanatory
variables of this accounting value, such as regional groups, firm
level controls and qualitative characteristics.

verification of the critical success factors of the TCUs survey
variables by means of statistical analysis. Chapter Three argues
that against the background of hyper-complexity the usefulness of
all mainstream approaches of change management has to be
scrutinized. Chapter Four is focused on a theoretical framework
motivated by the influence of TMT composition on strategic change
and firm performance. Chapter Five examines the importance and the
