Weltflug - The Gyroplane Dream: A true life story that lifts you into flight - literally. Take off to a fantastic world tour and fly through the most beautiful landscapes in Europe, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the USA & South America. Imagine being a part of an 18-month airborne adventure that spans 5 continents. Feel the wind brushing against your face and exciting your skin. See yourself looking down from low altitudes, soaking in the awesome beauty of some of the planet's most fascinating destinations. And now, imagine that you are sharing this incredible adventure with your spouse - all from a 2-seated lightweight gyroplane Impossible? That's just what everyone used to think. But Andreas and Melanie Stuetz were on a mission to live out their childhood dreams - and nothing was going to stop them... What is a gyroplane? First flown successfully in 1923, gyroplanes are types of rotorcrafts. Rotorcrafts utilize self-turning rotors to develop lift and motor-powered propellers to generate thrust. Breathtaking and Courageous With sheer wonderment, you'll glide into the atmosphere above historical Europe. In South America, you float above the stunning waterfalls of Iguacu. Across Africa, you experience a bird's-eye view of the captivating expanses of the Kalahari. Far away, you will drift slowly over the sights of New Zealand while further developing your sense of amazement about the world we live in. About the Adventurers: Andreas G. Stuetz In the seventies, as a young boy in West Germany, Andreas dreamed of being an adventurer, an inventor and a successful entrepreneur. He always wanted to fly and was fascinated with the WDR cult TV puppet series Robbi, Tobbi and Fliewatuut. The Fliewatuut was a vehicle capable of flight, floatation and terrestrial travel. He was stricken then with need to fly. Life progressed. In 2000, he was awarded with the highly prestigious StartUp price by Angela Merkel. Andreas matured into the prosperous inventor and entrepreneur that he had envisioned - but something was missing. He still wanted to experience daring adventures in a Fliewatuut. Melanie Stuetz Like Andreas, Melanie dreamed as a child in East Germany, the GDR, of limitless travel, ideally as a cosmonaut in space. On October 1989 she and her father crossed as refugees the green border to Prague (CZ) to enter the first refugee trains, which lead to the Western Part of Germany, where her Mom already waited after her last visit without return. Twenty years later Melanie is closer than ever to her childhood dream. She was the first woman to pass the sport pilot licensing test for Xenon gyroplanes. After marrying, her and Andreas continued to plan for and train for the realization of their flight dreams. One day, while watching the James Bond movie, You Only Live Twice, they witnessed Sean Connery, as 007, performing a daring getaway scene. He soared away to safety, and to freedom, on a mini-helicopter - on a gyroplane Let the adventure begin Andreas and Melanie became licensed pilots and shortly thereafter launched their unified childhood dream of an unlimited world tour by the Fliewatuut-like gyroplane. It was a truly pioneering effort Their astonishing adventure took eighteen months to complete and traversed five separate continents. This amazing book and accompanying video collection are the thrilling results of more than 3 years of work overall. Charity Terre des Hommes is an international charity dedicated to helping disadvantaged children. Melanie and Andreas share a deep sense of gratitude for the fortune that they have enjoyed. For that reason, a percentage of all proceeds from the sales of the book and DVD's is donated to Terre des Hommes. But money alone is not enough. It is a dream that drives the life of a person. And that is the reason why Andy & Mel also asked the children about their dreams. It is important that children do have dreams to find their way in life. To make childhood dreams come true

Flying the Tail Wheel Airplane (Paperback): Jim Alsip Flying the Tail Wheel Airplane (Paperback)
Jim Alsip
R594 Discovery Miles 5 940 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

As a licensed pilot, have you ever wondered why pilots who fly tailwheel airplanes are always smiling? While the FAA requires additional training to earn a tail wheel endorsement, those who master the requisite skills never look back from this fun, rewarding adventure. Now, seasoned flight instructor Jim Alsip delivers Flying the Tail Wheel Airplane: Stick and Rudder Skills for All Pilots. With numerous photographs, diagrams, and concise key points, this accessible, expert resource is certain to chart any pilot's course to achieving his or her tail wheel endorsement. In clear, comprehensible instruction, Alsip goes beyond the basic step-by-step approach of many aviation books to guide readers through the requisite flying skills and information on "specific tailwheel subjects." In doing so, he stresses the significance of mastering the necessary stick and rudder skills that have eluded many licensed pilots during their basic pilot training.. Comparing a good pilot to a conductor of an orchestra, Alsip explains that it is the pilot's job to direct the airplane's performance in regards to airspeed, altitude, heading, and constant rate of turn, and then allow the airplane to perform, to fly, the maneuver. Flying the Tail Wheel Airplane: Stick and Rudder Skills for All Pilots is structured as a seven-lesson syllabus for tailwheel transition. In the first chapter, Alsip reviews the basic principles of flight, and explores the pilot's relationship to the airplane. He then describes four skill-building maneuvers that are applicable to all pilots flying any kind of airplane, and in chapter three, discusses the science behind the skills that characterize the quintessential tail wheel pilot. From there, the guide details the flying skills fundamental to earning a tail wheel endorsement: landing pattern, slips, three point landings and wheel landings. Finally, Alsip covers how to handle a tailwheel airplane when the wind blows, an ability that distinguishes a "good stick," a skilled pilot. By identifying the causes of weak pilot skills and addressing those weaknesses with techniques and a practice regimen, any pilot can increase his/her skill in the use of an airplane's controls. Flying the Tailwheel Airplane: Stick and Rudder Skills for All Pilots offers a clear and steady training guide for any pilot who wants to change the way they fly-and in doing so, become a safer pilot that has a lot more fun.

Playlady - Tales of a Recreational Therapist (Paperback): Vesta Edmonds Playlady - Tales of a Recreational Therapist (Paperback)
Vesta Edmonds
R460 R410 Discovery Miles 4 100 Save R50 (11%) Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The tough, know-it-all boys who have been kicked out of school, engaged in theft, and generally been incorrigible, aren't quite so macho when a leech attaches itself to their leg. They also don't really know how to paddle a canoe, but want everyone to think they do. "Wilderness therapy" works.
Joel lookslike he's very retarded. His ear is on his chin, his eyes are placed in the wrong area of his face, he has a severe cleft lip and palate. Not assuming the degree of his mental deficiencies, Playlady>/b> teaches him to throw soft balls and bean bags across the room, and laugh. Much to the dismay of the nurses.
Don, known to the nurses as the femur in 360, will have his leg in traction for 6 weeks, but it doesn't squelch his need to play. It does challenge the Playladyto find ways of providing activities that he loves.
When Little Mary came to pediatrics, Playlady had to decide whether to stay aloof, or throw herself into the team caring for a terminally ill child. It would be acceptable to "hide from the tragedies of life to avoid the pain, but then you miss the joy," You miss the dance.
When Ryan's arm was chopped off in a farm combine, his mother packed it in ice and he was helicoptered to our facility where it was reattached. Finding play for a boy with one arm totally immobilized, was just a day in the life of the Playlady.
Marcus also lost an appendage while holding his shotgun and trying to climb a fence. With his thumb gone, it was impossible to have a grip. So, they took his second toe off and sewed it where his thumb had been. It was a job for Playlady to help him use the hand naturally again. As in holding and moving game pieces.
Anorexia has vicious tentacles that take a strong hold of bright, ambitious young people who come to the point of life or death. Body perceptions are hard to dispel, and it takes an entire medical team to help them get strong enough to play, and then leave.
A deadly car wreck claims the father, sister and leaves three other family members in hospitals. Five year old Claire spends months on Peds, relearning to crawl, walk, and talk with the Playlady.
It is a total shock when the hospital eliminates the recreational therapy programs, due to budget cuts. Anger, and sadness finally give way to hope, when Playlady finds herself walking down the hall of the State Psychiatric hospital with a huge ring of keys clipped to her belt. Sometimes that's the only way to tell who stays and who goes home at night.
With a minor in Psychology going along with the BS in Recreational Therapy, it was a great opportunity to actually live, work and play with folk who exhibited all the symptoms written of in the texts. The paranoid schizophrenic, the depressed, the murderers judged insane by a jury, become daily companions. Sandy used to be a bird, and has a picture on the wall to prove it. Joe speaks in word salad, totally unintelligible. Outings can be scary, embarrassing, but are an essential part of judging a patients ability to live on the outside. Many never do.
Again, Playladyis out of a job, and again she finds a new one. Back to the same hospital where she worked on Peds, but now in the inpatient, acute, psych ward. Different keys on the belt, some of the same diagnoses.
Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT) is back in use. Better known as shock treatment, it totally changes the life of an elderly woman who failed at suicide with a shotgun blow. By the end of her stay she was singing with Playlady at the piano.
Whatever the diagnosis, there is a need that can be fulfilled by Playlady. Finding that need, and determining how to meet it, is the most exciting part of being a recreational therapist.
