This book challenges the perception of chemistry as too difficult
to bother with and too clinical to be any fun. Cathy Cobb and Monty
L. Fetterolf, both professional chemists and experienced educators,
introduce readers to the magic, elegance, and, yes, joy of
chemistry. From the fascination of fall foliage and fireworks, to
the functioning of smoke detectors and computers, to the
fundamentals of digestion (as when good pizza goes bad ), the
authors illustrate the concepts of chemistry in terms of everyday
experience, using familiar materials.

In her latest book, she takes the home cook on an adventure encompassing many of the country’s diverse and iconic dishes, including traditional South African food with a traditional Jewish twist. This book not only includes meat and nondairy recipes but mouthwatering dairy dishes to dive into. And in her inimitable style, Sharon will keep you laughing along the way.
The information revolution has ushered in a data-driven reorganization of the workplace. Big data and AI are used to surveil workers and shift risk. Workplace wellness programs appraise our health. Personality job tests calibrate our mental state. The monitoring of social media and surveillance of the workplace measure our social behavior. With rich historical sources and contemporary examples, The Quantified Worker explores how the workforce science of today goes far beyond increasing efficiency and threatens to erase individual personhood. With exhaustive detail, Ifeoma Ajunwa shows how different forms of worker quantification are enabled, facilitated, and driven by technological advances. Timely and eye-opening, The Quantified Worker advocates for changes in the law that will mitigate the ill effects of the modern workplace.

South African poet and political activist Dennis Brutus (1924-2009) wrote poetry of the most exquisite lyrical beauty and intense power. And through his various political activities, he played a uniquely significant role in mobilising and intensifying opposition to injustice and oppression - initially in South Africa, but later throughout the rest of the world as well. This book focuses on the life of Dennis Brutus in South Africa from his childhood until he went into exile on an exit permit in 1966. It is also an attempt to acknowledge Brutus' literary and political work and, in a sense, to reintroduce Brutus to South Africa. This book places his own voice at the centre of his life story. It is told primarily in his own words - through newspaper and journal articles, tape recordings, interviews, speeches, court records and correspondence. It draws extensively on archival material not yet available in the public domain, as well as on interviews with several people who interacted with Brutus during his early years in South Africa. In particular, it examines his participation in some of the most influential organisations of his time, including the Teachers' League of South Africa, the Anti-Coloured Affairs Department movement and the Coloured National Convention, the Co-ordinating Committee for International Recognition in Sport, the South African Sports Association and the South African Non-Racial Olympic Committee, which all campaigned against racism in South African sport. Brutus left behind an important legacy in literature involvement, in community affairs and politics in as well.
THE #1 INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER THAT INSPIRED THE ENGLAND FOOTBALL TEAM 'Gareth Southgate's secret weapon' - Guardian 'A copy of Eastwood's new book, Belonging, was given to every England player when they reported for duty at the European Championships' - Telegraph 'How Maori belief is driving the England team to seize the moment' - Sunday Telegraph 'Belonging is a must-read for anyone interested in building a long term high-performing team.' - Stuart Lancaster 'One of the wisest books about winning you'll ever read...Powerful lessons beautifully expressed.' - James Kerr In BELONGING Owen Eastwood reveals, for the first time, the ethos that has made him one of the most in-demand Performance Coaches in the world. Drawing on his own Maori ancestry, Owen weaves together insights from homo sapiens' evolutionary story and our collective wisdom. He shines a light on where these powerful ideas are applied around the world in high-performing settings encompassing sport, business, the arts and military. Whakapapa is a Maori idea which embodies our universal human need to belong. It represents a powerful spiritual belief - that each of us is part of an unbroken and unbreakable chain of people who share a sacred identity. Owen places this concept at the core of his methods to maximise a team's performance. Aspects of Owen's unique approach include: finding your identity story; defining a shared purpose; visioning future success; sharing ownership with others; understanding the 'silent dance' that plays out in groups; setting the conditions to unleash talent; and converting our diversity into a competitive advantage. Whakapapa. You belong here.
‘Next Time, Bring a Bigger Knife’ is an engaging, highly entertaining and often very funny memoir in which the writer takes us from his inner-city poverty in England to qualifying as a solicitor in the law before a chance encounter leads to his downfall involving sex and drugs. Poverty, followed by boarding-school, propels John on adventures at Oxford in the 1970s followed by a career in family law. An orphaned boy raised by a survivalist wends his way into the real world in an emotional novel about hope, fears, and found family by New York Times bestselling author Catherine Ryan Hyde. Out there is chaos, the collapse of society, and so much to be afraid of. All that matters is freedom. That's what Remy Blake has been taught by his survivalist father. Raised off the grid in the middle of nowhere, his own survival skills not yet honed, Remy is days shy of his eighth birthday when his father unexpectedly dies. As seasons pass, supplies run out, and fending for himself grows more desperate, Remy sets out on foot, unprepared for the great unknown of civilization. He is found-near feral, silent, and terrified-in the small rural town of Blaire. To Anne, a nurturing mother of two adopted teenagers who's still dealing with her own childhood rejections, Remy is not a lost cause. Just a challenging one. As Remy cautiously adapts to his new foster home, his family wants nothing more than to reassure him that he can trust the world. But to do so, they must first reexamine how much they trust the world themselves, and how much they should. As Remy's journey into the real world begins, figuring out how to navigate it becomes a path they will have to learn to walk together.
How can we reclaim the soul-deepening wildness that grounds us and energizes us when so much of the modern world seems designed to tame us? In this thrilling memoir of a life spent exploring the most incredible places on Earth—from the Great African Seaforest to the crocodile lairs of the Okavango Delta—Craig Foster reveals how we can attend to the earthly beauty around us and deepen our love for all living things, whether we make our homes in the country, the city, or anywhere in between. And his own reliance on nature’s rejuvenating spiritual power is put to the test when catastrophe strikes close to home. Foster’s lyrical, riveting Amphibious Soul draws on his decades of daily ocean dives, wisdom from Indigenous teachers, and leading-edge science.
