This bibliography provides publishing data for several hundred
journals and serials in the fields of dentistry, dental health, and
dental health education. The titles listed are produced at least
once a year, have the bulk of their text in English, address some
aspect of dentistry, and contain more than announcements. Arranged
alphabetically by key words, the entries consist of two main parts.
The first part lists bibliographic information about the title,
including as much as possible of the following: name, date founded,
title change(s), frequency of publication, subscription price, name
and address of the publisher and editor, whether or not it contains
illustrations and an index, circulation, criteria for manuscript
selection, availability in microfrom, whether or not it accepts
book reviews and advertisements, publication of special issues, if
it is indexed, abstracted, or available on-line, and its target
audience. The second half of each entry is a descriptive
annotation.
This book is a well-illustrated guide to the iatrogenic effects of
orthodontic treatment that provides practical information on
orthodontic diagnosis, treatment planning, and post-treatment
retention and highlights preventive measures to avoid complaints
and lawsuits. It is divided into three parts, on white spot
lesions, periodontal deterioration, and external apical root
resorption (EARR). The reader will learn a wide variety of
invaluable skills and strategies, such as how to minimize the risk
of enamel decalcifications as a result of orthodontic treatment;
how to deproteinize the enamel surface and bond brackets with
hybrid glass ionomer cement; how to avoid lower incisor
proclination and still achieve ideal long-term alignment; and how
to apply strategies to minimize orthodontically induced EARR.
Iatrogenic Effects of Orthodontic Treatment will be an excellent
aid for both orthodontists and pediatric dentists.
This book takes a range of clinical problems in prosthetic
dentistry and gives a step by step guide to differential diagnosis
and treatment planning for the dental student. Focuses on clinical
problem-solving in prosthodontics. Offers practical help with
treatment planning, guiding the reader through the process of
decision-making. Covers some of the most important areas of
clinical practice for the average dentist - including crowns,
bridges, veneers, and implant-supported restorations. Provides
colorful illustrations throughout to reinforce content.
Only in recent times has the possibility of growing and
implanting replacement teeth, made from one s own cells, moved into
the realm of realistic possibilities; however, the molecular and
cellular mechanisms of tooth development must be studied in a range
of vertebrates, from zebrafish to mice, so that evolutionarily
conserved network kernels, which will define the cellular states of
generic vertebrate tooth development, can be recognized. In
"Odontogenesis: Methods and Protocols," experts in the field
examine techniques to approach this burgeoning field. This detailed
volume includes chapters on the detection of tooth development gene
expression, both at the RNA and protein level, current approaches
to the manipulation of gene expression levels and subsequent
analysis of tooth phenotypes, as well as chapters concerning
current efforts to get living tooth implants working without
waiting for a full understanding of the developmental pathways at
the molecular level. Written in the highly successful "Methods in
Molecular Biology " series format, chapters include introductions
to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and
reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols,
and tips for troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls.
Practical and easy to use, "Odontogenesis: Methods and
Protocols" aims to help researchers move forward toward the
ultimate goal of getting a bioengineered tooth into the patient s
mouth.

Foundation and Practical Clinical Reports
A user-friendly instruction book based on Geoffrey Howe's original
text written in the 1970's. It retains the unchanged principles
underpinning the extraction of teeth and established techniques of
surgical management, whilst incorporating the changes which have
taken place in key areas of practice. New sections have been added
on subjects such as the use of general anaesthetic and the
medico-legal climate. A virtual 'Apprentice's Manual', this
practical guide takes the student through basic procedures in
simple steps, thus underpinning more theoretical teaching provided
elsewhere. The author begins with the principles of tooth
extraction then goes on to advise on the use of radiographs and the
administration of anaesthesia. Surgical removal of teeth is also
covered, and a complete section deals with possible complications
and their management. This new book not only provides students with
the fundamental knowledge needed to perform their first tooth
extraction but also prepares them for more complicated techniques
they may need to use later on. It should be an essential purchase
for every dental undergraduate.Practical guidelines to efficient
tooth removal Covers both simple and more complicated extraction
techniques No other book concentrates solely on the mechanics of
tooth extraction
The objective of this book is to catalyze the application of
genomics to the diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases by
comprehensively presenting focused discussions on the current state
of knowledge. The first section book provides basic information
about genetics, genomics and personalized medicine and the
informatical methods available to apply and organize genetic data
so that it has clinical relevance. Recognizing the genetic
robustness of the oral cavity, the introductory section includes
chapters on the oral micro biome and host genomics and response to
infectious agents. The next two sections contain chapters which
describe the genomics of specific oral diseases and conditions,
including the genetic basis for mechanism and risk of treatment
toxicities associated with cancer therapy and bisphosphonates. Four
chapters focus on gene-based therapies and the pharmacogenomics
applied to oral disease. The final chapter presents a provocative
summary which describes a comprehensive vision of the melding of
genomics to personalized medicine and the potential actionable
outcomes that will likely affect clinical practice in the upcoming
years.

Dental Biotribology summarizes the latest achievements in dental
wear and is designed to help the reader better understand the
relationship between structures and tribological properties of
human teeth. This book provides guidance on the biomimic design of
anti-wear engineering systems based on human teeth and also
explains mechanisms of occlusal wear and erosion as well as
fretting wear related to dental implants and orthodontics.

development of improved dental materials and oral treatments.
This is a user-friendly guide to the principles of complete denture construction. It is a practical, extensively illustrated book for the general dental practitioner, starting with the examination of the edentulous patient and progressing through the different treatments in a logical way. A range of procedures has been described in sufficient detail so that the dentist can apply the best treatment measure to the specific clinical problem. A final chapter on domiciliary treatment has been included because elderly, housebound patients often present problems such as denture retention (because of the patients'residual ridge atrophy or insufficient muscular control). Reference to original research work has been included so that the reader can explore the research evidence for himself.
Written for residents and practitioners of otolaryngology, medical
oncology, radiation oncology, and maxiollofacial surgery, this book
provides the reader with a comprehensive, concise discussion of the
best evidence available on which to base clinical decisions needed
when managing patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the oral
cavity, pharynx and larynx. Because of its accessible and practical
format, this book is considerably different than other related
titles on the market. Formatted with questions at the beginning of
each chapter that are then answered with evidence and best
practices available for each case, each chapter addresses
situations the clinician is likely to face in the diagnostic
evaluation and treatment of a patient with cancer of the head and
neck. Most clinical decisions in the management of cancers of the
head and neck region are based on the results of a few controlled,
randomized clinical trial trials (Evidence Level I). However, most
decision-making is based on the results of case-control studies
(Evidence Level II), descriptive studies, reports of expert
committees, or opinions of respected authorities (Evidence Level
III). This information is scattered throughout the literature and
often comingled with information about other topics. Therefore,
there is a need for a publication in which the evidence pertinent
to making decisions regarding a particular clinical problem is
distilled from the literature and presented in a single concise,
clinical, situation-driven source. Cancer of the Oral Cavity,
Pharynx and Larynx: Evidence-Based Decision Making is just such a
resource.

The basic language of biology and medicine seems strange, and it
should--it is essentially a foreign language, filled with words of
Latin and Greek origin, diseases that are identified named after
the physician who discovered it rather than the cause or effect,
and is otherwise made up of abbreviations and other obscure
terminology and information that only a trained physician or
researcher would know. Yet many professionals are required to have
at least a rudimentary knowledge of biomedical terminology and
information, and frequently they are at a loss in understanding
even the simplest concepts and terms. For example, how would an
engineer know how the various systems of the body work together as
an organism? Would a nurse know the difference between the
acetabulum and acetylcholine? How can a lawyer or journalist become
familiar with common clinical abbreviations and terminology? How
can a patient understand his or her own medical record?
The Biomedical Desk Reference is intended to be a handy,
easy-to-reach for compilation of useful biomedical terminology. The
volume contains the following sections: Basic Anatomical vocabulary
and Physiologic Concepts; Basic Medical and Physiologic
Terminology; Common Clinical Abbreviations; Terms Commonly Used in
Health-Care Administration, Insurance, and Legal Settings;
Biomedical Eponyms; Medical Prefixes and Suffixes; Synopsis of
Major Diseases, Drugs, and Treatments; The Anatomy of the Medical
Record. Biomedical Desk Reference also contains a wealth of
appendices showing conversion charts, common vital signs,
laboratory values of physiologic importance, useful physical
constants, definitions, and formulae.
This comprehensive referencebook will be useful for biomedical
engineers, lawyers and legal secretaries, physician's assistants,
medical secretaries, nurses, biomedical technicians, laboratory
technicians, hospital administrators, ward clerks, aides, and other
medical laypersons.

& Neck Reconstruction "is logically organized into 24 chapters,
each focusing on a local or regional flap, or a special site
reconstruction. Chapters focused on a particular flap will begin
with a detailed description of the relevant anatomy and discuss
potential applications of the flap before moving into a detailed
step-by-step description of how to elevated and transfer the flap
to the defect site. Potential complications will also be
addressed.Well-illustrated with more than 800 clinical photographs
and with a website featuring surgical procedures, this book is an
ideal reference for those new to practice and experts alike.
