Good and evil/ right and wrong have been important issues in all cultures and societies during all ages. The perceptions of moral norms differ greatly depending on the environment, economic security, knowledge and information available to the citizens and the overall state of security of life of people. With social evolution the moral behavior also changes its character. The issue of moral has become more precarious during recent social changes brought by the modern consumer culture and the global communication age. The book analyses the history of social evolution and its impact on the perceptions of moral values across the globe. The main enactors in the moral arena are often the people with vested interests in economic and political power. They exploit human psychology of fear for the unknown and the natural instincts to seek security against threats from competing groups. The book reflects on these mechanisms from the perspective of science - especially biology and psychology - and arrives at a complex arena of human behavior full of contradictions and conflicts. The analysis should stimulate free thinking and inspire people to take a fresh look at the understanding of moral questions beyond the prevalent framework of economic and political interests in which values take shape. This constitutes the first part of the book where the author suggests his own way out of the maze. In the second part moral questions are projected through a spiritual perspective, which cannot be subjected to rational arguments. The book is unique in many ways which span from Kantian and Nietzschean moral world to mysticism as the foundation of moral universalism.
Fringe Rhetorics: Conspiracy Theories and the Paranormal identifies these rhetorical similarities of conspiracy theories and paranormal accounts by delving into rhetorical, psychosocial, and political science research. Identifying something as "fringe" indicates its proximal placement within accepted norms of contemporary society. Both conspiracy theories and paranormal accounts dwell on the fringes and both use surprisingly similar persuasive techniques. Using elements of the Aristotelian canon as well as Oswald's strengthening and weakening strategies, this book establishes a pattern for the analysis of fringe rhetorics. It also applies this pattern through rhetorical analyses of several documentaries and provides suggestions for countering fringe arguments.
Kalamazoo's violent and often anguished history has given way to myriad ghostly tales surrounding some of the town's most prominent places. From the tortured souls roaming the Asylum Lake Preserve to the infamous suicide of the amateur actress Thelma, who reputedly haunts the Civic Auditorium to this day, it is no small wonder that the town is filled with apparitions longing to make their stories and their presence known. In this startlingly spooky collection of tales, ghost hunters Bray and DuShane gather stories from legend, lore and residents alike that bring new meaning to the age-old adage 'seeing is believing.'
Paranormal investigator Ryan Dunn and his Savannah Ghost Research Society return with a new collection of investigations and ghostly hotspots in their second book on Savannah hauntings. Were people really forced into piracy at the Pirate's House? Why did Matilda Sorrel jump to her death at the Sorrel Weed House? Who is the child spirit at the Marshall House Hotel, biting people in their sleep? Why did one home require a Catholic priest to perform an exorcism? Go along with the team as they sift through historical evidence at the Georgia Historic Society, separating fact from fiction, and read about their overnight encounters. This authoritative read will take you from Savannah's earliest settlers to present day, and you may find some of those earliest settlers refusing to remain in their own time.
Haunted Landscapes offers a fresh and innovative approach to contemporary debates about landscape and the supernatural. Landscapes are often uncanny spaces embroiled in the past; associated with absence, memory and nostalgia. Yet experiences of haunting must in some way always belong to the present: they must be felt. This collection of essays opens up new and compelling areas of debate around the concepts of haunting, affect and landscape. Landscape studies, supernatural studies, haunting and memory are all rapidly growing fields of enquiry and this book synthesises ideas from several critical approaches - spectral, affective and spatial - to provide a new route into these subjects. Examining urban and rural landscapes, haunted domestic spaces, landscapes of trauma, and borderlands, this collection of essays is designed to cross disciplines and combine seemingly disparate academic approaches under the coherent locus of landscape and haunting. Presenting a timely intervention in some of the most pressing scholarly debates of our time, Haunted Landscapes offers an attractive array of essays that cover topics from Victorian times to the present.

The book constitutes the final part of "Tathagata - A Divine Comedy for Our Time" where Tathagata transcends the limitations of the ego-bound world and sees himself as the Christ-Man, who embodies in himself the mystery of existence of both Man and God. The dialogues between the Christ-man and God touch upon the return of God to human life and reveal the nature of the incomprehensible existence of the Divine Being through an allegorical language, which grazes between the realm of knowledge and reason and a world which lies beyond all knowing and understanding by the human mind.If one wonders about God, whose nature of existence cannot be explained in any language known to man, this book may help to gain a closer understanding of the way the Divine may appear and act in human life.In modern time science denounces the ideas of Divinity and considers the believers of God as people with brain dysfunction. This book is a product of such a "dysfunctional brain" to whom God has spoken. These dialogues between man and God will throw new lights on the existence of Christ and Buddha, who do not exist in the physical plane but manifest through human mind, and appear in the inner realm as the presence of the Divine power which animates all creations in the universe.
This book is a collection of poetry. Each were written individually at seperate times in my life. They have been put together from my earliest pieces to Amy newest symbolizing my thirty years. Some of the pieces are sad, some are happy, while others can be devastating. Regardless of the emotional rollercoaster, each one is part of my life. These writings are simply lyrics, written out emotions, thoughts and ideas representative of how I felt at a certain time in my life. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
Tales of intrigue in this book include unusual unsolved crimes, unidentified flying objects, spine-tingling ghost stories, well-documented sea creature sightings, and more. Based on historic accounts from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Montana Myths and Legends recounts several myths and mysteries from the Big Sky State's past, verifying some tales from multiple accounts and exposing some stories for what may have really occurred. From a haunted prison in Red Lodge to persistent rumors of bigfoot appearances, from whispered descriptions of the "tommyknockers" who help miners in trouble to a famous union organizer found lynched from a bridge in Butte, this selection of fourteen stories from Montana's past explores some of the Treasure State's most compelling mysteries and debunks some of its most famous myths.
An indispensable resource for students and researchers of paranormal myth and media, this horror anthology explores both popular and obscure pieces about the undead and unholy. Beginning with the author's personal reflections on frightful manifestations in media, essays interrogate the roots and representations of well-known supernatural entities. Divided into three sections, chapters contextualize ghosts, vampires and monsters firmly within American culture. The section dedicated to ghosts features the author's 2004 essay "Spectral Turn" and explores spectrality in the work of Herman Melville and Toni Morrison. In the "Vampires" section, the author considers the undead bloodsucker's relationship to antisemitism, suicide and cinema. Lastly, the third section includes pieces that explore the otherizations of monsters in films like It Follows, 2017's IT and It Comes at Night. Considerations of monstrosity in the age of global pandemics, terrorism and "stranger danger " are also addressed at length.
The spirits of the Shakers are still active in their historic homes, meeting houses, and on the land where they once toiled, prayed, and sang. Shaker Spirits, Shaker Ghosts offers ghost hunter investigations, haunted tales from White Water Shaker village in Ohio, walkthrough village reports from psychics, and an interview with a Shaker scholar. Thomas Freese was immersed in their music for ten years when he performed with the Pleasant Hill Singers. At Shakertown in Mercer County, Kentucky, he heard, then recorded, true tales from both visitors and employees of Pleasant Hill. Ghostly singing is heard in the Meeting House, children are scared of moving tombstones in the graveyard, spirit figures walk the village lane, and ghosts enter guest rooms. Are you ready to have an encounter with a Shaker ghost? We thought so.
This book is different from your typical how-to guide for ghost hunting. It's designed to give the empath, and anyone sensitive to energy, tools for accepting things that go bump in the night. Empathic ghost hunters will learn to depend not only on the energy of the living, but that of the dead as they search out paranormal activity. Each chapter includes a story, taken from the authors' experiences in their own ghost-hunting practice, as well as a lesson for empaths or those wishing to better their empathy skills. Find out how to "lighten" a space, a house, or a life, by changing the energy, thereby allowing ghosts to move on. Discover what an empath feels and what he/she can do to work with the gift of empathy. Now you can unravel and demystify the phenomena of the paranormal, and bring light to a subject fraught with fear and misunderstanding.
