COLOR CEMENT HANDICRAFT by PEDRO J. LEMOS. An extensively
illustrated book originally published in 1922. FOREWORD: IT IS
EVIDENT to the most casual observer that the use oi -* cement and
concrete has developed into a most important building material
undoubtedly the most important of the age. Industrial and
vocational educators have recognized this importance and thousands
of school children have received instruction in its use and
application to objects of utility. Its use has been the subject of
many books, and the reason for the issuing of this book is to
present in printed form the use of color cement for the decoration
or surface enrichment of cement and concrete objects. We heretofore
have thought of cement in terms of rough surfaces and crude
retaining walls, little thinking that beautiful patterns and
textures are possible with proper combinations of color with
cement, presenting possi bilities for producing art tiles, pottery,
and decorations of a high art quality. After a study some years ago
of the various forms of producing clay pottery and its possible
relation to school arts and industrial education, the handicap of
necessary firing to give permanency loomed large against its
general adaptation by schools. This resulted in considerable
research and experimenting by the authors with cement and the use
of color in the endeavor to parallel in some measure each of the
methods employed in the making of fired tiles and pottery.

photographs, accompanying diagrams, helpful advice and projects,
with 27 original designs - necklaces, chokers, bracelets, earrings
and brooches.

In this collection of Embroidery Stitches, I have endeavoured to
place before those artists who are interested in needlecraft an
exposition of the most useful and artistic stitches that have
formed a part of my own work during several years' study and
practice of Art Embroidery. Some of these will be familiar to
Needle-artists: others will serve to exemplify how, in process of
working, fresh stitches may be evolved from old ones or how, when
originality gains ground, entirely new stitches become apparent and
workable. Keywords: Embroidery Stitches New Stitches Art Embroidery

are breathing new life into many time-honored skills and crafts.
Blacksmithing is among the trades that are enjoying a resurgence
for both practical and artistic uses, yet there is not an abundance
of readily accessible information available to beginning
blacksmiths to help them get started and understand the craft.
Author Ryan Ridgway, a veterinarian and blacksmith with more than
fifteen years of metalworking experience, hopes to fill that void
with this comprehensive volume geared toward answering the many
questions that new blacksmiths often have. By explaining the
physics of moving metal, the different styles of anvils and forges,
and alternative fuel sources, Ridgway sets his book apart from less
detailed volumes. Forty practical, easy-to-follow projects are
presented, showing aspiring blacksmiths how to make tools, such as
hammers and chisels; farm implements, such as gate latches and hoof
picks; and items for home use, including drawer pulls and candle
holders. Inside The Home Blacksmith: The evolution of blacksmithing
around the world and the differences between the tools specific to
each region The behavior of heated metal and the science of
metalworking Setting up a shop safely and economically The heart of
your shop--the anvil and forge--and the other essential tools
Working with different types of steel, including how to salvage
steel for different uses Techniques from beginning to advanced
