Stefan Biffl, Matthias Eckhart, Arndt Luder, Edgar Weippl
R4,149 Discovery Miles 41 490 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book examines the requirements, risks, and solutions to improve the security and quality of complex cyber-physical systems (C-CPS), such as production systems, power plants, and airplanes, in order to ascertain whether it is possible to protect engineering organizations against cyber threats and to ensure engineering project quality. The book consists of three parts that logically build upon each other. Part I "Product Engineering of Complex Cyber-Physical Systems" discusses the structure and behavior of engineering organizations producing complex cyber-physical systems, providing insights into processes and engineering activities, and highlighting the requirements and border conditions for secure and high-quality engineering. Part II "Engineering Quality Improvement" addresses quality improvements with a focus on engineering data generation, exchange, aggregation, and use within an engineering organization, and the need for proper data modeling and engineering-result validation. Lastly, Part III "Engineering Security Improvement" considers security aspects concerning C-CPS engineering, including engineering organizations' security assessments and engineering data management, security concepts and technologies that may be leveraged to mitigate the manipulation of engineering data, as well as design and run-time aspects of secure complex cyber-physical systems. The book is intended for several target groups: it enables computer scientists to identify research issues related to the development of new methods, architectures, and technologies for improving quality and security in multi-disciplinary engineering, pushing forward the current state of the art. It also allows researchers involved in the engineering of C-CPS to gain a better understanding of the challenges and requirements of multi-disciplinary engineering that will guide them in their future research and development activities. Lastly, it offers practicing engineers and managers with engineering backgrounds insights into the benefits and limitations of applicable methods, architectures, and technologies for selected use cases.

Linguistic Linked Data - Representation, Generation and Applications (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Philipp Cimiano, Christian... Linguistic Linked Data - Representation, Generation and Applications (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Philipp Cimiano, Christian Chiarcos, John P. Mccrae, Jorge Gracia
R4,351 Discovery Miles 43 510 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This is the first monograph on the emerging area of linguistic linked data. Presenting a combination of background information on linguistic linked data and concrete implementation advice, it introduces and discusses the main benefits of applying linked data (LD) principles to the representation and publication of linguistic resources, arguing that LD does not look at a single resource in isolation but seeks to create a large network of resources that can be used together and uniformly, and so making more of the single resource. The book describes how the LD principles can be applied to modelling language resources. The first part provides the foundation for understanding the remainder of the book, introducing the data models, ontology and query languages used as the basis of the Semantic Web and LD and offering a more detailed overview of the Linguistic Linked Data Cloud. The second part of the book focuses on modelling language resources using LD principles, describing how to model lexical resources using Ontolex-lemon, the lexicon model for ontologies, and how to annotate and address elements of text represented in RDF. It also demonstrates how to model annotations, and how to capture the metadata of language resources. Further, it includes a chapter on representing linguistic categories. In the third part of the book, the authors describe how language resources can be transformed into LD and how links can be inferred and added to the data to increase connectivity and linking between different datasets. They also discuss using LD resources for natural language processing. The last part describes concrete applications of the technologies: representing and linking multilingual wordnets, applications in digital humanities and the discovery of language resources. Given its scope, the book is relevant for researchers and graduate students interested in topics at the crossroads of natural language processing / computational linguistics and the Semantic Web / linked data. It appeals to Semantic Web experts who are not proficient in applying the Semantic Web and LD principles to linguistic data, as well as to computational linguists who are used to working with lexical and linguistic resources wanting to learn about a new paradigm for modelling, publishing and exploiting linguistic resources.

Guide to Intelligent Data Science - How to Intelligently Make Use of Real Data (Paperback, 2nd ed. 2020): Michael R. Berthold,... Guide to Intelligent Data Science - How to Intelligently Make Use of Real Data (Paperback, 2nd ed. 2020)
Michael R. Berthold, Christian Borgelt, Frank Hoeppner, Frank Klawonn, Rosaria Silipo
R1,809 Discovery Miles 18 090 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Making use of data is not anymore a niche project but central to almost every project. With access to massive compute resources and vast amounts of data, it seems at least in principle possible to solve any problem. However, successful data science projects result from the intelligent application of: human intuition in combination with computational power; sound background knowledge with computer-aided modelling; and critical reflection of the obtained insights and results. Substantially updating the previous edition, then entitled Guide to Intelligent Data Analysis, this core textbook continues to provide a hands-on instructional approach to many data science techniques, and explains how these are used to solve real world problems. The work balances the practical aspects of applying and using data science techniques with the theoretical and algorithmic underpinnings from mathematics and statistics. Major updates on techniques and subject coverage (including deep learning) are included. Topics and features: guides the reader through the process of data science, following the interdependent steps of project understanding, data understanding, data blending and transformation, modeling, as well as deployment and monitoring; includes numerous examples using the open source KNIME Analytics Platform, together with an introductory appendix; provides a review of the basics of classical statistics that support and justify many data analysis methods, and a glossary of statistical terms; integrates illustrations and case-study-style examples to support pedagogical exposition; supplies further tools and information at an associated website. This practical and systematic textbook/reference is a "need-to-have" tool for graduate and advanced undergraduate students and essential reading for all professionals who face data science problems. Moreover, it is a "need to use, need to keep" resource following one's exploration of the subject.

Real-time Linked Dataspaces - Enabling Data Ecosystems for Intelligent Systems (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Edward Curry Real-time Linked Dataspaces - Enabling Data Ecosystems for Intelligent Systems (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Edward Curry
R1,538 Discovery Miles 15 380 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This open access book explores the dataspace paradigm as a best-effort approach to data management within data ecosystems. It establishes the theoretical foundations and principles of real-time linked dataspaces as a data platform for intelligent systems. The book introduces a set of specialized best-effort techniques and models to enable loose administrative proximity and semantic integration for managing and processing events and streams. The book is divided into five major parts: Part I "Fundamentals and Concepts" details the motivation behind and core concepts of real-time linked dataspaces, and establishes the need to evolve data management techniques in order to meet the challenges of enabling data ecosystems for intelligent systems within smart environments. Further, it explains the fundamental concepts of dataspaces and the need for specialization in the processing of dynamic real-time data. Part II "Data Support Services" explores the design and evaluation of critical services, including catalog, entity management, query and search, data service discovery, and human-in-the-loop. In turn, Part III "Stream and Event Processing Services" addresses the design and evaluation of the specialized techniques created for real-time support services including complex event processing, event service composition, stream dissemination, stream matching, and approximate semantic matching. Part IV "Intelligent Systems and Applications" explores the use of real-time linked dataspaces within real-world smart environments. In closing, Part V "Future Directions" outlines future research challenges for dataspaces, data ecosystems, and intelligent systems. Readers will gain a detailed understanding of how the dataspace paradigm is now being used to enable data ecosystems for intelligent systems within smart environments. The book covers the fundamental theory, the creation of new techniques needed for support services, and lessons learned from real-world intelligent systems and applications focused on sustainability. Foundations of Multi-Paradigm Modelling for Cyber-Physical Systems (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Paulo Carreira, Vasco Amaral,... Foundations of Multi-Paradigm Modelling for Cyber-Physical Systems (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Paulo Carreira, Vasco Amaral, Hans Vangheluwe
R1,459 Discovery Miles 14 590 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This open access book coherently gathers well-founded information on the fundamentals of and formalisms for modelling cyber-physical systems (CPS). Highlighting the cross-disciplinary nature of CPS modelling, it also serves as a bridge for anyone entering CPS from related areas of computer science or engineering.Truly complex, engineered systems-known as cyber-physical systems-that integrate physical, software, and network aspects are now on the rise. However, there is no unifying theory nor systematic design methods, techniques or tools for these systems. Individual (mechanical, electrical, network or software) engineering disciplines only offer partial solutions. A technique known as Multi-Paradigm Modelling has recently emerged suggesting to model every part and aspect of a system explicitly, at the most appropriate level(s) of abstraction, using the most appropriate modelling formalism(s), and then weaving the results together to form a representation of the system. If properly applied, it enables, among other global aspects, performance analysis, exhaustive simulation, and verification. This book is the first systematic attempt to bring together these formalisms for anyone starting in the field of CPS who seeks solid modelling foundations and a comprehensive introduction to the distinct existing techniques that are multi-paradigmatic. Though chiefly intended for master and post-graduate level students in computer science and engineering, it can also be used as a reference text for practitioners.

Modern Data Mining Algorithms in C++ and CUDA C - Recent Developments in Feature Extraction and Selection Algorithms for Data... Modern Data Mining Algorithms in C++ and CUDA C - Recent Developments in Feature Extraction and Selection Algorithms for Data Science (Paperback, 1st ed.)
Timothy Masters
R1,621 R1,318 Discovery Miles 13 180 Save R303 (19%) Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Discover a variety of data-mining algorithms that are useful for selecting small sets of important features from among unwieldy masses of candidates, or extracting useful features from measured variables. As a serious data miner you will often be faced with thousands of candidate features for your prediction or classification application, with most of the features being of little or no value. You'll know that many of these features may be useful only in combination with certain other features while being practically worthless alone or in combination with most others. Some features may have enormous predictive power, but only within a small, specialized area of the feature space. The problems that plague modern data miners are endless. This book helps you solve this problem by presenting modern feature selection techniques and the code to implement them. Some of these techniques are: Forward selection component analysis Local feature selection Linking features and a target with a hidden Markov model Improvements on traditional stepwise selection Nominal-to-ordinal conversion All algorithms are intuitively justified and supported by the relevant equations and explanatory material. The author also presents and explains complete, highly commented source code. The example code is in C++ and CUDA C but Python or other code can be substituted; the algorithm is important, not the code that's used to write it. What You Will Learn Combine principal component analysis with forward and backward stepwise selection to identify a compact subset of a large collection of variables that captures the maximum possible variation within the entire set. Identify features that may have predictive power over only a small subset of the feature domain. Such features can be profitably used by modern predictive models but may be missed by other feature selection methods. Find an underlying hidden Markov model that controls the distributions of feature variables and the target simultaneously. The memory inherent in this method is especially valuable in high-noise applications such as prediction of financial markets. Improve traditional stepwise selection in three ways: examine a collection of 'best-so-far' feature sets; test candidate features for inclusion with cross validation to automatically and effectively limit model complexity; and at each step estimate the probability that our results so far could be just the product of random good luck. We also estimate the probability that the improvement obtained by adding a new variable could have been just good luck. Take a potentially valuable nominal variable (a category or class membership) that is unsuitable for input to a prediction model, and assign to each category a sensible numeric value that can be used as a model input. Who This Book Is For Intermediate to advanced data science programmers and analysts.

Ontologies - A Silver Bullet for Knowledge Management and Electronic Commerce (Hardcover, 2nd ed. 2004): Dieter Fensel Ontologies - A Silver Bullet for Knowledge Management and Electronic Commerce (Hardcover, 2nd ed. 2004)
Dieter Fensel; Foreword by M. L. Brodie
R1,617 Discovery Miles 16 170 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Ontologies have been developed and investigated for some time in artificial intelligence to facilitate knowledge sharing and reuse. More recently, the notion of ontologies has attracted attention from fields such as databases, intelligent information integration, cooperative information systems, information retrieval, electronic commerce, enterprise application integration, and knowledge management. This broadened interest in ontologies is based on the feature that they provide a machine-processable semantics of information sources that can be communicated among agents as well as between software artifacts and humans. This feature makes ontologies the backbone technology of the next web generation, i.e., the Semantic Web. Ontologies are currently applied in areas such as knowledge management in large company-wide networks and call centers, and in B2C, B2G, and B2B electronic commerce. In a nutshell, ontologies enable effective and efficient access to heterogeneous and distributed information sources. Given the increasing amount of information available online, this kind of support is becoming more important day by day. The author systematically introduces the notion of ontologies to the non-expert reader and demonstrates in detail how to apply this conceptual framework for improved intranet retrieval of corporate information and knowledge and for enhanced Internet-based electronic commerce. He also describes ontology languages (XML, RDF, and OWL) and ontology tools, and the application of ontologies. In addition to structural improvements, the second edition covers recent developments relating to the Semantic Web, and emerging web-based standard languages. ___________

This book is based on research from Russia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Switzerland and the Czech Republic on issues related to knowledge-based economy development. The idea for this book was developed during three international conferences on digitalization: VI, VII and VIII International Scientific Weeks, organized by Samara State University of Economics (Samara, Russia) in 2018-2020. It is an initiative by the scientific and business organizations in the Samara Region and their Russian and international partners to analyze the current digitalization of social-economic systems, the problems and perspectives of this process, and its role in the creation and development of a new type of economy and new quality of human capital. All the contributions focus on the search for effective ways of adapting to the new digital reality and are based analyses of international statistics, and data from specific companies, educational institutions and governmental development programs. The book explores a variety of topics, including * Knowledge and Information as Basic Values of a New Economic Paradigm; * Information Technologies for Ensuring Sustainable Development of Organizations; * Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data in Education and Business; * Digital Platforms and the Sharing Economy; * Potential of Digital Footprints in Economies and Education; * Sociocultural Consequences of Digitalization.
