Growing up with animals, I have learnt so much about taking care of them. The most amazing thing about pets is the fact that they are so unconditional and so grateful for every small act of kindness. It is rather humbling to see how warm hearted animals can actually be. I would have never had the wonderful opportunity of dealing with tortoises and other animals, if it had not been for my family, especially my father. Animals were the centre of all our activities when I grew up. There was not a single day that did not begin with a discussion about our pets. What to feed them? What is the most nutritious thing to feed them? These were common dinner table conversations in our house. So, needless to say, I have had a lot of practical training and experience with respect to taking care of different breeds of animals. Today, I am in a very privileged place where I can share this information with pet lovers across the globe. I love Emily, my Russian Tortoise. In this book, I've explained my experience with my tortoise. I've included all these topics and more: pros and cons, keeping, daily care, costs, diet, breeding, cages, lightning, heating, interacting and where to buy. I explain all aspects of keeping a Russian Tortoise as a pet to make sure that your tortoise will be has happy as mine Mine is funny and makes me laugh, I hope yours will be funny too

For 100 years, from the mid-19th Century, natural history was the premier British hobby. Over the last 50 years it has declined in popularity for a number of reasons, most notably that killing living creatures for a hobby is quite rightly no longer seen as ethical. With the technological advances of the 21st Century, however, everything has changed. With a digital camera one can have a butterfly collection for example, and with the advent of cheap air travel, places once only accessible by the Gerald Durrells of this world, can be visited by everybody. Suddenly, the amateur naturalist can come into his, or her, own, and there has never been a better time for people to get involved. Amateur naturalists across the world are carrying out valuable research, and participating in essential breeding programmes. If you are interested, this magazine is for you. This book, first published in 1987 and here reprinted with a new foreword by the authors has become a classic in the field of herpetology. In ecological and evolutionary research snakes occupy a unique niche. Studies of their adaptations and life histories have broad applications for the most basic questions in biology. This book fills the need for an up-to-date text/reference in the growing field of snake ecology and evolutionary biology. Here, in one volume is an extensive review of the biology of these fascinating reptiles, including topics such as zoogeography, fossil history, systematics, foraging and reproduction. With contributions from many leading herpetologists, the work is divided into sections on Systematics and Morphology, Methods and Techniques and Life History and Ecology. Each section summarizes what is known about these major fields of snake biology. This book serves the needs of those actively involved in research as well as the amateur naturalist and the beginning student. Dr. Richard A.
