"Pool Table Assembly" is a complete, detailed, and illustrated instruction manual for assembling almost any pool table. Mose Duane, author of A Rookie's Guide to, "Pool Table Maintenance and Repair," "Buying or Selling a Pool Table," and "Playing Winning Pool" wrote the manual. The need for it came about with the realization that far too many people are talked out of assembling their own pool table because "professionals" can do a better job. Nothing could be further from the truth. Assembling a pool table is not hard, and with a little insight and this manual, any rookie should be able to do a proficient job in an afternoon.
Taking a cue from the millions of younger Americans who have recently rediscovered pool, Times Books has revamped and redesigned this classic guide to the sport.
Most sports use statistics to evaluate skills. For example, basketball counts free throw attempts versus successes. In the pool and billiards cue sports, there is no clear system to statistically evaluate player skills and abilities. This book provides that objective evaluation system for pool and billiards players. This book's sole purpose is to provide players with an objective evaluation system. Every shooter can use their test scores to determine how good (or bad) they are on a wide range of shooting and playing skills. There are tests specifically for pool tables and tests for billiard tables. These are Cue Sports Progressive Test Groups - designed to determine the player's exact skills in controlling two balls - the Object Ball (OB) and the Cue Ball (CB). The book is divided into two levels: Intermediate and Advanced. Each Test Group starts with an easy shot, followed by more difficult tests. Each test is shot several times and scored. Each test score in the group is added up. The scores can be compared to previous attempts or in competitive challenge shootouts. Included are instructions on how to use a Referee to setup and track test results. Referees are very helpful when you want to challenge other shooters someplace else on the planet, such as another city or country. This scoring system can be used in several ways: Skills Measurement - The test groups identify current playing skills with actual results. The testing process uses multiple attempts that remove the luck factor and reveal reality. Self-Knowledge - Because the test groups strip away fuzzy personal assumptions, the player can make more intelligent table decisions. Personal Training Program - Test groups with low scores identify what areas must be improved. A personalized skill development program can be developed, based on results. Competitive Skills Comparison - Using these test groups, players can compare their individual skills. Competitions can occur in person or (with referees), internationally. This can be done within in a casual competition or formal tournament environment. There are free Personal and Tournament PDF log books on the web site. Use these to enter test scores and save the file as a history of your efforts.
This book explains how pool hustlers use sharks to bend and break the idea of sportsmanship. Their tricks are exposed in detail - including specific instructions on how to respond. Some of these sharking tricks are amateur hour only - commonly seen among bar-bangers and teenage shooters. The sophisticated and slick tricks are also described. These are all meant to be mental distractions designed to help you lose games and money. To play competitive table billiards, it takes more than good pocketing and positioning skills. It takes a keen awareness of your opponent and his actions. If he is a hustler, this book gives you the tools to recognize and stop anything he does.

These are the games that I have played for the last 4 years to get my skill level up to where it is today. Since I started this as my practice routine I have gone from an average player to a very highly skilled road tournament player and I have won 94 amateur pool tournaments. You can achieve any level of play that you desire. It won't happen overnight. It won't come easy. No one is going to give it to you. You will have to earn it. But, it can be earned. If you truly believe it can. "Hurricane" Wayne Jenkins

Buying or selling a pool table can be haphazard for anyone who doesn't know what to look for, or how to look for it. In order of imprtance, I have listed what I think are the ten essential components you should consider, and why, to make it easier for you to put a value on any pool table.
Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing many of these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
After I wrote the popular "Cue Ball Control Cheat Sheets" book, a number of friends (serious players each and every one) contacted me about doing an advanced version - starting with tougher shots. These are players who are not interested in the majority of pool books and videos. For beginners and intermediate players, there are a lot of excellent instructional books and videos available. But, they were past that. For advanced players ("A" rated and above), there isn't much material worth studying. My friends really wanted something that was a significant challenge to their shooting and playing skills. This is that book. All layouts went through a testing period. At first, the successful cue ball speed and spin was going to be provided. This was voted down - the consensus was, any solid shooter should be able to figure out how to play the shot and successfully shoot it. Warning - there are some near impossible setups. At least three of them were so tough that only two of the testing shooters could consistently make both balls. So this is the challenge to all pool players - if you think you are an "A" or better player - you need to get this book and shoot these shots. You will need excellent pocketing skills with strong cue ball positioning abilities. For those shooters who are striving to reach that level of the game, this book is very useful. These layouts can help confirm that your skills are improving. Every couple of weeks, setup and shoot some of these shots. In between these scheduled self-testing periods, use the Cue Ball Control Cheat Sheets book to improve your cue ball management self-confidence. You will see recognizable improvements. Study this material in two steps. In the comfort of your favorite easy-chair, review each table layout and thoughtfully consider your options. How would you play the shot? What would be the minimum speed and spin to make the shot work? Are there multiple ways to make the shot work? In the printed book, use a pencil to draw your patterns. On an eReader, use the "notes" feature to enter your ideas. This book will help you get past the "fooling around" stage of your playing career and help you get serious about becoming a competitive player.
The Secret Art Of Pool Is the instructional book by Lee Brett, having coached and advised numerous top players including Darren Appleton, Shane Van Boening, Mike Dechaine, John Morra & many more. Lee has decided now is the time to share these secrets in his instructional book. Covering his "V" grip technique, his 1 to 5 set up sysytem, Inside & Outside the box, how to have strong fundamentals, including sighting, alignment, stance, bridge hand & arm, follow through, 100% aiming system, and much more to mastering the art of pool.
There are two classes of pool players in the world. The serious shooter is dedicated to finding ways to gain better control how the cue ball rolls around the table. Most players enjoy pool because, well - it's fun This book is written for you guys. This is an introduction to the idea that defensive shooting is just as important as offensive shooting. Here is something to remember: there are no rules that require you to play stupid shots. When you have a table layout with a shot that is too tough, you really do not have to figure out some crazy way that the object ball MIGHT (maybe) get to a designated pocket. How about this as a simple solution? DON'T try to make the shot. Instead, shoot something that prevents your opponent from winning the game. If you do this, your opponent has a difficult situation. You can let him invent silly reasons to miss. You come back to the table with a good chance to win (or get closer to a win). Let him play all offense all the time. You play a few safeties and let him give you the opportunity to win. When this book falls into your hands, there is stuff you can use immediately. Besides the tips, there are techniques, exercises, and a few tricks that help you win more games. Yes, you can even use these to beat better shooters. Consider this book to be the digest version of the Safety Toolbox. A couple of hours of study, combined with some practice table time, and you are suddenly a tougher shooter. Let your opponents use the bar-banger style of calling fantastic hero shots, such as, "5 ball, four rails, off the 7 and into the side pocket." This book will add some competitive maturity to your playing style. I don't need to wish you good luck. This book and some of your time is all you need to begin winning more games. And here's a useful benefit from the book - you don't have to outshoot your opponent. Simply prevent him from winning.
For a nation with a long and proud military tradition, one token stands above all others as a mark of recognition for the ultimate acts of individual feats of arms: the Victoria Cross. Awarded for one reason alone--to mark extreme acts of great heroism by British and Commonwealth servicemen in the face of the enemy--it is unquestionably the hardest club in the world to gain entrance to. Its holders--ordinary soldiers, sailors and airmen--are linked by an uncommon bond of exceptional bravery, displayed often at great personal risk and against impossible odds. The VC has been awarded only thirteen times since the end of the Second World War in 1945. Three of these awards were made to recipients who had paid the ultimate sacrifice while demonstrating gallantry beyond the call of duty. Forged in battle, from the shell-scarred hills of Korea, to the windswept marshland of East Falkland and today's counter-insurgency operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, each one of these VCs has a uniquely inspiring tale to tell. This is their incredible story.

These drills and exercises are based on the concept of progressive advancement. Start with an easy setup, prove that you can make that 4 out of 5 times, and then make the shot slightly more difficult. Keep on pushing the limits as far as the table edges allow. Bring this to the table along with your paper reinforcement rings (donuts) and you are ready to improve yourself. Study this material in two steps. 1. THINK FIRST. In the comfort of your favorite easy-chair or recliner, review each table layout and thoughtfully consider the ball positions. Consider what you would have to do. The table layout might require different shooting speeds (slow, medium, fast), different spins (draw, follow, side/English). Make a list of your practice requirements for your current skills and identify the exercises necessary. 2. Take the book to the practice table with your donuts and work on owning the shots you selected. Pencil in where your Comfort and Chaos Zones meet on the exercise (and mark the date). Over time, you may need to buy a second book just to keep track of all your notations. This is true table knowledge that will enhance your abilities as the Intelligent Shooter. These layouts, when diligently practiced, ensure that you will improve, consistently and rapidly. Learn the fastest and quickest ways to: Pocket tough shots Predict cue ball paths Enhance position play skills Improve table management skills Increase Balls Per Inning (BPI) average Build self confidence & competence This book is available in US (amazon.com) and Europe (*.uk, *.fr, *.de, *.es, *.it). Paul Rodney Turner (a.k.a. "BATman") invented the Billiard Aim Trainer (BAT).He has studied the teachings of great masters of pool and snooker, as well as being personally trained by World Champions, Allison Fisher (right) and Gerda Hofstatter (left), top touring pro Max Eberle, and Master BCA instructor, Jerry Briesath. Paul started playing pool in 1973 at the age of 10 on a seven-foot particleboard pool table in his family's garage. Fascinated by the art and geometry of billiards, Paul studied the books of legendary snooker and billiard greats and had hopes of one day becoming a professional snooker player, but then in 1983, as if being called for a higher purpose, Paul put away his snooker cue and traveled East to study the ancient mystical teachings of India. It is that experience that Paul now draws on when explaining the more subtle aspects of billiards, like mind management and gamesmanship. Join Paul on a journey of championship billiards and self- discovery as he reveals the essential ingredients of what makes a great pool player and a great human being.
How many times has your game died because of a bad cue ball control choice? (Actually, do you really want to remember how many times that happened?) This has been a big personal problem in the decades that I've played the Green Game. There are so many speeds to hit the cue ball and so many ways to make it spin. That means even dead-easy shots become very complicated when you have to get shape for the next shot. There are literally hundreds of options. I'm not a feel player, able to intuitively shoot by instinct. I'm a scientific player, who likes to figure what, how, and why a shot can work (and way too often, not work). Finally, I got tired of guessing the correct cue ball speed and spin, and decided to apply some intelligence to this weakness in my game. (Of course, I have no objection to winning because someone else does something foolish.) I mapped out several hundred common shooting situations, with the cue ball, 1 ball, and 2 ball. Then I shot each layout, over and over, trying out different speeds and spins. Everything was tested and retested - and then repeated over and over. The table layouts in this book are the results from those months and months of testing with tens of thousands of shots. This is why these are Cheat Sheets. Basically - I've done all the suffering for you. You need to add some reality to these shots. First, try the shot with what you think works. Then use the provided cheat tip. Once successful, repeat again. Then setup on the shot and shoot it with your eyes closed. Once you realize you can dial in the speed and spin to get consistent results, the learning curve goes much faster. All it takes is some dedicated practice time to prove you can do it - and that is when you start winning more games. What you learn in this book will not stop all of your bad shooting decisions. It WILL reduce the number of mistakes. That is why, after you buy this book that I provide an email connection in the book. I am very interested that you get good value. |
